Today’s Scholarship:  Recycling is Bigger Than The Bin

Calling all artists, filmmakers, and recyclers! Students in grades K–12 are invited to participate in a national recycling awareness contest sponsored by the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) and JASON Learning. The theme of this year’s contest is “Recycling is Bigger than the Bin!”

Most of the recycling we see today happens in the blue bin in your house. We recycle our paper, newspapers, aluminum cans, plastic bottles, and steel food cans by placing them in the blue bin and putting it on the curb once a week. That’s easy!

But what about those things that are “bigger than the bin”—how are those recycled?

All around us there are items that will not fit into that bin. Everything from bicycles to skyscrapers can potentially be recycled, but not in a blue bin.

Your challenge is to choose an item that is “bigger than the bin” and find a way to recycle it!

For entry information, check out your Google Classroom.

The Dell Scholars program, an initiative of the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, recognizes students who have overcome significant obstacles to pursue their educations. In turn, these scholars serve as positive role models and change the trajectories for their families, friends and their communities.

We award 400 scholarships annually and since 2004, have awarded students with over $76 million in college scholarships. The Dell Scholars Program places greater emphasis on a student’s determination to succeed than just academic record and test scores. Our GPA requirement is Grit, Potential and Ambition. We reward low-income, highly motivated students who are better than their numbers indicate and demonstrate the drive to succeed despite personal obstacles. high school football.” It is not in any way limited to football players, and we have had almost equal

numbers of boys and girls submit essays and win awards over the years.

Essays should tell us something you learned related to high school football. This is not limited to experiences of actually being on the high school football team.  For example, maybe you learned something as a cheerleader, a band member, or as a fan who attended games.  Maybe you learned something from the experience of a friend or relative.  Or maybe high school football had an impact on your school or your community that ultimately had an effect on you.  Really, anything you think of that has any connection at all to high school football is fine to submit.
