Re : Chatham-Kent Boundary Review

Dear Parents and Guardians:

We would like to provide you with an important update regarding the Chatham-Kent Boundary Review on behalf of the CK Boundary Review Committee (“CKBRC”). The CKBRC Follow-up Report was presented at the Board Meeting held on Monday, May 15, 2023.

The Board of Trustees has approved the Chatham-Kent Boundary Review recommendation as outlined in the Final Report dated March 6, 2023, with one updated amendment to the recommendation. The approved recommendation is as follows:

“That the Board of Trustees approve Chatham-Kent Boundary Review Option #2, as outlined in the Initial Staff Report, subject to the following amendments:

  1. The implementation date for the boundary and program changes to École élémentaire catholique Saint-Francis, École élémentaire catholique Saint-Philippe, École élémentaire catholique Sainte-Catherine, École élémentaire catholique Sainte-Marie and École secondaire catholique de Pain Court take effect in September 2025.

  1. The current grade six (6) students at École élémentaire catholique Sainte-Marie will transition to Sainte-Catherine as current practice for the 2023-24 school year. The current grade five (5) students will remain at École élémentaire catholique Sainte-Marie for grade six (6) and for grade seven (7) and would transfer to École secondaire catholique de Pain Court in September 2025 with all other grade seven (7) and grade eight (8) students.

  1. The Board will conduct meetings with the Parents and Community during the Transition Phase to engage support on the 7-12 program and specifically, the future vision for the grade 9-12 program for École secondaire catholique de Pain Court.

  1. That the Board will work with Francobus to ensure that ride times for all approved changes are consistent with Board policy, and where possible and appropriate, the ride times can be improved to École secondaire catholique de Pain Court.

  1. That the Board and Community meet to develop strategies to increase the utilization of vacant space at École élémentaire catholique Saint-Phillipe, École élémentaire catholique Saint-Francis, and École élémentaire catholique Sainte-Catherine and that a report be prepared for September 2025.

  1. The Board will develop specific facility accommodation plans for the grade 7-8 program at École secondaire catholique de Pain Court that ensures an identified learning environment for these grades including classroom space, physical education, washrooms, lockers, etc.  The facility accommodation plans will be communicated with the parents during the Transition Phase.”

Based on the approved motion, the Boundary Review Committee and Administration will now move forward with the implementation phase of the recommendation. Throughout this process, we will continue to communicate with all stakeholders, providing updates and information on the transition planning and implementation activities.

With the revised amendment setting September 2025 as the transition date to welcome grade 7 and grade 8 students at École secondaire catholique de Pain Court, the school board will have an additional year of preparation. This extra time will allow for:

We encourage all parents and Guardians to visit the Chatham-Kent Boundary Review webpage to read the follow-up report.

Wishing all a great end to the school year as spring is upon us and summer vacation draws near.

Respectfully,
