Tales From Grevelon

S1E6: The Best Laid Plants

Official Transcript

Thomas:

I realized that this is actually going to be-this is the September episode.

Katie:

Ooh! Back to school.

Thomas:

Back to school and-

Samkit:

[Chuckling] Okay?

Thomas:

-I will have turned 25 when this episode comes out. I’ll be 25 as of 5 days before this episode comes out.

Samkit:

Oh wow!

Katie:

Middle aged.

Samkit:

Middle?

Thomas:

[Laughing] Katie, do you think I'm going to die at 50?

Katie:

I'm not allowed to talk about it.

Talya:

What do you know?

Thomas:

What do you know? Tell me!!

Talya:

What do you know?

Thomas:

If you know when I'm going to die, you legally have to tell me.

Katie:

I’ve said too much.

[cheerful, upbeat music]

Thomas:

Hello, folks and friends, and welcome to Tales from Grevelon. I'm your Tale Keeper, Thomas Pflanz. I'm joined by Talya Shatzky.

Talya:

Ashallynniamehra Ginggleppossumm, a fairy talent scout. Untroubled and chewing gum comma bubbled.

[Thomas and Katie laugh]

Samkit:

Oh! So good! So good!

Thomas:

Oh wow!

Katie:

I don't like that I have to follow Talya.

Thomas:

Speaking of which, Katie Siegel.

Katie:

Lenral Lyndambar. Elven handyperson. Fine and fine.

[Thomas laughs hard]

Samkit:

[Laughing so hard] What was the second one, sorry?

Katie:

Fine and fine.

[Thomas and Samkit are losing it]

Katie:

He's fine, but he's also fine.

Talya:

Foine. Foine.

Thomas:

I see what you didn’t want to follow Talya.

Katie:

WHOA!

Thomas:

It was good. It was good. It wasn't gum comma bubbled.

Talya:

I mean, technically? Mine wasn't an adjective.

Thomas:

[Laughing] It wasn't.

Talya:

I straight up just break the rules.

Katie:

Disqualified.

Thomas:

Disqualified. Actually, Katie gets the A unless. Followed by-and Samkit Siyal.

Samkit:

Paatarak, an elephantfolk arcartographer’s assistant. Mundane and plain.

Thomas:

Okay.

Talya:

Great.

[Samkit breaks out laughing]

Talya:

Fantastic.

Thomas:

I'm going to give Katie the A there-

Katie:

YEAHHAAAA!

Thomas:

-because Talya got disqualified and Samkit’s was, you know, plain.

Samkit:

I don't believe in grades.

Katie

I will-I will hand my crown to Talya if she keeps the bubblegum as a recurring bit throughout this episode.

Thomas:

Sounds good.

Talya:

I’ll do it.

Katie:

You can win the opening if you commit to the bit.

[chime]

Thomas:

Before we jump into the action for today, our lovely characters have all, you know, improved over their time traveling together, and so in the mechanics of our game, they've each improved one of their skills that their characters had. And, we're just going to go around real quick, and they're going to share with us what skill they improved, starting with Ash.

Talya:

My Move skill has gone up from a d6 to a d8.

Thomas:

Wonderful and Lenral?

Katie:

Wait, I said I was going to do Move.

[The cast laughs]

Katie:

You did Move?

Talya:

We can both-we can both do Move.

Thomas:

You can both do Move!

Katie:

[Laughing] I thought you said you were going to do something else!

Samkit:

I'm also doing Move so all thre-no, I'm joking.

[Thomas laughs]

Talya:

Oh, that would be great. We should all do that.

Katie:

Oops, all Move.

Talya:

Do you want me to change it, for the sake of-?

Katie:

No, no, no. I just-it just took me aback. How much throwing has Lenral done in the past?

Talya:

Weren't you supposed to throw a dragon?

Katie:

I did throw a full dragon.

Samkit:

You did throw a full dragon.

Talya:

You threw a full dragon.

Thomas:

You did throw a full, shrunken dragon.

Samkit:

No, a full dragon.

Talya:

A full dragon.

Katie:

Thomas, why are you always trying to downplay my achievements?

[Thomas and Samkit laugh]

Katie:

Well, yeah-let's do Throw.

Thomas:

Okay.

Katie:

So, yeah, my Throw skill, which is a 6, that has now become an 8.

Talya:

Woohoo.

Thomas:

Amazing. And Paatarak.

Samkit:

I changed my Influence from a d6 to a d8.

Talya:

Hey, I have a d8 Influence.

Thomas:

You're all learning from each other, you know?

Talya:

Wow.

Thomas:

All spending time together, learning from each other.

Samkit:

Paatarak has just been in so many situations in which he needs to be in charge that he's just gotten good at, like, talking to people.

Katie:

Yeah.

Thomas:

Yeah, that's fair.

Today, our crew finds themselves, as ever, traveling.

[gentle music starts]

Thomas:

After a short stay in the lakeside town of Halsk, Ash, Lenral, and Paatarak have been on the road south towards Kravex City; a massive city-state to the south of Sundar, with beautiful glass towers, a rich culinary culture, and the fourth biggest underground non-university based non-fiction library in any large-scale city in Grevelon. They’re very proud of that fact.

It is now the third day of your travels, with two more days ahead, as we find our crew waking up early in the morning. And so, with some questions.

Ash, what are you looking forward to in Kravex City?

[music ends]

Ash [Talya]:

I think I'm looking forward to most visiting the famous waterfalls of Kravex City.

Thomas:

Yeah, absolutely. There are a series of folk-made waterfalls are coming up from a natural spring-

[Samkit and Katie are giggling]

Talya:

What’s so funny?

Katie:

It’s like when you think of a city, I just feel like waterfalls aren’t the most-[Katie starts giggling].

Thomas:

Yeah. Well, we're rolling with it, y’all.

Katie:

It's a fantasy city. Anything can happen.

Talya:

What’s wrong with waterfalls?

Samkit:

[Laughing] Nothing’s wrong with waterfalls.

Katie:

I think it’s great. I think it's wonderful, and I love your mind.

[Talya chuckles]

Thomas:

City municipality pumps water up from an underground spring to create these artificially-constructed waterfalls, which are stunning, and the light glints off of them and the glass towers alike, creating a lovely rainbow that is ever present over the city.

Talya:

If there can be radio stations in trees, there can be waterfalls in cities.

[The cast laughs]

Katie:

Genius! Big brain!

Thomas:

You know what? You're so right-

Samkit:

You’re so right for that, Talya.

Thomas:

-and I think you just helped establish something that I think makes this city very cool, which is the man-made waterfall with a rainbow over the city.

Talya:

Yeah! Why not?

Thomas:

Paatarak, why did you wake up before dawn today?

Samkit:

Here's the thing is, I have some issues sleeping when there's running water nearby. Because running water-

[Talya and Katie laugh]

Katie:

Talya just created the worst scenario for Paatarak.

[Samkit wheezes while laughing]

Thomas:

No wait, hold on hold on hold on-

Talya:

“I hate white noise. I hate calming sounds.”

Thomas:

You guys are thre-two days away from Kravex City.

Katie:

Oh.

Samkit:

Oooohhhhhhh.

Talya:

Paatarak can still feel it. He can still hear it. Have you seen his ears?

Samkit:

Okay, okay. Let me go back.

So here's the thing is, I have some trouble sleeping when we're near water, which is almost everywhere, because I sleep on my side and my ears are really big so I can hear the water flowing underground. If I'm sleeping on the ground on my side, I can hear the water and it makes me have to run a lot.

[Katie and Talya are laughing]

Samkit:

Just I need to get up and go on a jog every time I hear running water.

Talya:

New fad diet.

[Samkit laughs hard]

Talya:

Run every time you hear water.

Katie:

Wait but why? But why?

Thomas:

But why? Yeah, what’s the reason here?

Samkit:

Everytime Paatarak hears running water from-while he's trying to sleep, he has to go on a jog.

Thomas:

Yeah, so what's the origin of that, Paatarak?

Talya:

When do you sleep?

Katie:

But why?!

Thomas:

What's-what's the origin of that impulse, Paatarak?

Samkit:

You know, when he was a child and the Bubble City started turning back into bubbles, he heard the bubbles and had to run, and the bubbles sounded like running water!

Katie:

Oh my god, it's a trauma response?

Talya:

Oh my god.

Thomas:

Oh, god.

Talya:

Why did I establish waterfalls?

[The cast starts laughing]

Talya:

What have I done?

Samkit:

[Laughing so hard] I’m so sorry. That got so out of hand.

Thomas:

Off the rails immediately.

[gentle harp music starts]

Thomas:

Lenral, as you wake up anticipating your sister's new broadcast this evening, excited to-

[music stops]

Katie:

Okay, so here's the first thing. Liisphyra does canonically say, “Good morning, Grevelon” at the beginning of every episode.

Thomas:

[Laughing] The time zones are different here…

Katie:

[Laughing] So are we establishing time zones in Grevelon right now in this moment?

Thomas:

Could it be late morning that Liisphyra airs that, theoretically?

Katie:

Yeah, it could totally be late morning!

Thomas:

Cool, so-

Talya:

If we're waking up at dawn because Paatarak has to run-

[Katie laughs]

[gentle harp music starts]

Thomas:

So, Lenral, as you wake up, just after dawn, as you anticipate your sister's new broadcast later this morning, how do you feel when you realize that you can't find your speaking plant?

[music ends dissonantly]

Katie:

I think my first thought is that-because sometimes Paatarak mixes up our, our speaking plants. So my first thought is, oh, maybe Paatarak took it with him on his usual pre-morning jog.

[Thomas and Samkit laugh]

Thomas:

Yeah.

Samkit:

[Laughing] It's a very specific circumstance when he's sleeping on the ground and his ear’s against it. That's the only time.

Katie:

So I don't think it's-I don't think it's an immediate worry. I think that ever since that one time that he woke up and all this stuff was missing, he does do-automatically take stock of all his belongings. But, I think when he notices it being gone, his first thought isn't that I-you know, that it's been stolen, especially with-he knows that his friends wouldn't steal his speaking plant.

So if anything, he thinks that Paatarak just accidentally took it, so I think he just continues on with his morning routine. You know, washes his face, moisturizes.

[Katie laughs]

Talya:

Skin care.

Katie:

[Laughing] Skin care routine.

Thomas:

It’s canon.

Katie:

His seven-step skin care routine.

[Thomas laughs]

Thomas:

As you get ready for the morning, get ready for the day's travels, you pack up the tents, you all gather together-

Lenral [Katie]:

Hey, Paat, do you have my-do you have my speaking plant?

Paatarak [Samkit]:

No, I didn't take a speaking plant with me this morning. I had to go real bad.

[The cast quietly chuckles]

Paatarak [Samkit]:

I just had to get up and run. Couldn't stop.

Lenral [Katie]:

Hey bud, I'd love to talk some time about…this whole thing.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yeah, we should-we should find some time. I agree.

Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Maybe not right now.

Lenral [Katie]:

Not right now. Right now, I need to figure out where my speaking plant is.

Katie:

He starts going through, like, his bags and stuff.

[sound of rummaging through a bag]

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Do you want to borrow mine?

Lenral [Katie]:

Well, I don't need it until later because it's just, like, my sister's show is later, so I wanted-I figured we'd listen to it then, but…

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Oh, yeah fair. Let me look for mine just so we have it.

Thomas:

Paatarak, as you look for your speaking plant, you cannot find it either.

[dissonant sting]

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Hey Len?

Lenral [Katie]:

Hm?

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Bad news. Good news, bad news.

Lenral [Katie]:

Okay, hit me.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

I don't have your speaking plant. Good news. Also bad news.

Lenral [Katie]:

Is that the good news? Is that good news?

[Talya and Thomas laugh]

Paatarak [Samkit]:

No, so it's also good news because…I didn't lose it.

Lenral [Katie]:

Gotcha.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

It's bad news because no one has it. No one knows where it is.

Lenral [Katie]:

Right.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Also bad news: I don't have my speaking plant.

[short silence]

Lenral [Katie]:

Hey, Paat, have you-?

Katie:

Lenral lowers his voice and he says,

Lenral [Katie]:

Have you noticed that ever since Ash started picking up that chewing gum habit that she's talked a lot less?

[Thomas laughs]

Paatarak [Samkit]:

I have, and like, she sleeps for a lot longer, too?

Lenral [Katie]:

She hasn't said more than three words to me this whole morning while we've been packing up.

[Talya makes the sound of blowing a bubble and then it pops]

[The cast laughs]

Katie:

[Laughing] She blows a bubble bigger than herself.

[Talya makes the sound of blowing a bubble again and then it pops again]

Paatarak [Samkit]:

She’s-she's also blowing a lot-I'm worried she's going to get stuck in one later.

[Thomas laughs]

Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah. Hey, Ash, do you have-do you know where our speaking plants are?

Ash [Talya]:

[Muffled, as if there is gum in her mouth] Huh?

[The cast laughs]

Katie:

Lenral puts out his hand like a teacher who catches a kid chewing gum in class.

[Talya makes a spitting sound]

Ash [Talya]:

Huh? What?

Lenral [Katie]:

Have you seen our-

Katie:

He, like, shakes the gum off his hand.

Lenral [Katie]:

Have you seen our speaking plants?

Ash [Talya]:

I saw them in the last place that they were.

Lenral [Katie]:

And where was that?

Thomas:

You took a call on your speaking plant yesterday morning.

Ash [Talya]:

I took a call on my speaking plant yesterday morning!

Lenral [Katie]:

Right, so your speaking plant isn't missing. Our speaking plants are missing.

Ash [Talya]:

Well, yeah, mine is-

Thomas:

Ash's speaking plant is also missing.

[dissonant sting]

Ash [Talya]:

Hmm.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Ash, is your speaking plant also missing?

Lenral [Katie]:

Hey Paatarak, good news. You didn't lose-

[Talya and Samkit laugh]

Lenral [Katie]:

-you didn't lose Ash’s speaking plant, but it is also missing.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

So I am understanding now-

Katie:

[Laughing] Oh no, Thomas. Thomas took a sip right before-

Samkit:

[Laughing] Thomas took a sip before Katie said “Hey Paat, good news.”

Katie:

Listen, as a comedian, that's the peak.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

No, so you-now I understand why you said that's probably not good news because that means we don't have a speaking plant, right?

Lenral [Katie]:

We don't have any speaking plants.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

[In some bizarre sing-song] Oh, no.

[Katie and Thomas laugh]

Lenral [Katie]:

Hmm. Okay, Ash, I need you to focus. Close your eyes.

Ash [Talya]:

Mm.

Lenral [Katie]:

Picture our speaking plants.

Ash [Talya]:

I do know what they look like.

Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah. Now, like, you know, zoom out a little. Where are they?

Ash [Talya]:

In the last place that they were.

Lenral [Katie]:

But what does that place look like?

Ash [Talya]:

It has our speaking plants. Definitely.

[Thomas and Samkit laugh]

Lenral [Katie]:

Okay. This is getting nowhere.

[The cast laughs]

Lenral [Katie]:

Where-where-okay, so you remember taking a call yesterday?

Ash [Talya]:

Most definitely.

Lenral [Katie]:

And that was when-I remember that. That was back when we were-we stopped in that clearing with all the flowers, and Paatarak started putting together the bouquet and then started sneezing, and then all the flowers went flying everywhere.

[Talya chuckles lightly]

Lenral [Katie]:

And, then you were like, “Paatarak, stop sneezing. I'm taking a call. It's bad for…”

[slight pause]

Lenral [Katie]:

Does anyone else remember this?

Ash [Talya]:

Yes.

(Overlapping)

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Vaguely, vaguely. When I sneeze, some of my memory goes away, but yeah.

(Overlapping)

Ash [Talya]:

No, yeah. I didn't have-I wasn't chewing gum yet.

Lenral [Katie]:

I'm sorry, Paatarak. Say that-[Katie starts laughing]

Samkit:

[Laughing] I'm-I'm establishing too many insane things. I’m just gonna cut that.

Katie:

[Laughing] Too much Paatarak lore in one episode.

Samkit:

[Laughing] Just gonna cut that. Sorry.

Talya:

I don't even know what he said.

Katie:

He said when he sneezes, he loses memory.

[Thomas and Talya laugh]

Talya:

[Laughing] Yeah that makes sense. There are years that Paatarak doesn't remember because of allergies.

[Talya laughs]

Katie:

One time, Paatarak did, like, a pillow fight, like a feather pillow fight, that got a little too aggressive and, like, does not remember any-just completely blacked out.

Talya:

Paatarak actually doesn't know he has allergies because every time they act up, he can’t remember.

[Thomas is losing it]

Katie:

Paatarak goes to the doctor. It's like “Any allergies?” He's like, “Um, no. I don’t think I’ve ever sneezed.”

Talya:

[Overlapping] “Not that I can think of.”

Paatarak [Samkit]:

No, but I do remember what you're talking about. Well, I remember vaguely being in a flower field. Don't remember much after that.

Lenral [Katie]:

Right. Because of the sneezing?

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Because I think-

Talya:

[Laughing] Because of the sneezing.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

-well, I've never sneezed before.

[Thomas and Talya laugh]

Katie:

Lenral and Ash exchange a look.

Lenral [Katie]:

Right.

Thomas:

[Laughing] My glasses are fogging up from the crying laughter.

[The cast laughs]

Katie:

Okay, everyone-everyone, be quiet so Thomas can take a sip of his drink.

Talya:

Wait, but I want to say something funny.

Katie:

No, you can't. Let him drink. He's going to get dehydrated.

Samkit:

[Laughing] You can’t let them choke.

Thomas:

[Having finally quenched their thirst] Okay.

Lenral [Katie]:

So we all-we had them all then.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

And that was in the morning. Like, vaguely in the morning.

Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Well, you remember after the field, like, somehow the terr-it doesn't make sense geographically or, like, naturally, but like somehow the terrain changed. I logged it on my map because it was insane. The terrain changed, and it just became this, like, tiny rock overpa-I mean, obviously, Ash had no issue. She can fly. But, like, I think Lenral and I had to like sort of tightrope balance our way across it.

Katie:

And we flash back to that moment. WoAhHh.

Samkit:

WoAhHh.

[gentle clarinet music starts]

Thomas:

As, as might be obvious, you know, not having your speaking plants, Len, you're not being able to listen to the new broadcast. Secondary problem is that the path you took is the shortest path to Kravex City, but there's not many towns along the route, so there's no place you could pick up another speaking plant. Which means that there might be only one answer, which is to backtrack your way through yesterday's travels.

[music ends]

Lenral [Katie]:

All right, gang, I think there's only one answer. I think we're going to have to retrace our steps.

Ash [Talya]:

Oh.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Oh, okay. Well, let me pull out my maps. Let's see if I can-we can find our way back the way we came.

Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah, absolutely. Paat, you should lead the way.

[Thomas chuckles]

Paatarak [Samkit]:

[Hesitant] Oh, okay.

Samkit:

Paat pulls out-

Lenral [Katie]:

We know how much you love taking the lead.

Ash [Talya]:

Love leading.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yep! Fearless leader.

Samkit:

Paatarak is sweating.

[The cast laughs]

Katie:

Does the running water set him off? He starts jogging.

Samkit:

Nah, he's not sweating that hard yet.

Thomas:

As you all set off, retracing your steps from the previous day, looking back, what was the last thing you all encountered before you went to sleep that night?

Talya:

[Laughing] You know those people at carnivals who will, like, guess your weight?

[Talya laughs quietly]

Samkit:

Yes.

Thomas:

Uh huh. So-so, sorry, the obstacle is a professional weight guesser?

Talya:

Yeah. The obstacle is a carnival barker who wanted to guess our weights.

Thomas:

We [Thomas makes a whooshing sound]

[quick ascending xylophone scale]

Thomas:

-briefly flashback to yesterday, right in the early evening, as you all crested down into a valley, you came upon-

[cheerful carnival music starts]

Thomas:

-Crintop’s Carnival of Curiosities. As you all skirted around the carnival as to not get sucked into the curiosities, right at the edge, you all came upon just a solitary carnival barker, a big troll-like figure, just like big body, head kind of like two thirds up the torso, kind of sticking out. This-this troll goes,

Grunik [Thomas]:

Step right up, step right up. Come and guess-get your guessed weight. Get your weight-get-get your weight guessed by Grunik.

[music ends]

Katie:

I think we all jump, because I think, like you said, we're like trying to like go around the outside of it to avoid everyone, and then just kind of like behind a tent in the trees is this carnival barker just standing there wanting to guess our weights.

Grunik [Thomas]:

Step right up, step right up. Let me guess your weight. I'm very good at it!

Lenral [Katie]:

Ah!

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Ohhh. Oh no.

Grunik [Thomas]:

Half a ryn coin in for each guess.

Ash [Talya]:

Wait, do you give us the money, or do we give you the money?

Grunik [Thomas]:

You give me the money.

Ash [Talya]:

[Overlapping] Like, do you pay us to guess-oh. Well, it should be the other way around.

Grunik [Thomas]:

Step right up. Step right up. You! You look like you way a certain amount of-of weight. I bet that I could guess how much weight you weigh.

Ash [Talya]:

He is right. I do weigh a certain amount of weight!

Lenral [Katie]:

Can I-can I ask you, what is the appeal of this-this trick?

[Thomas chuckles]

Grunik [Thomas]:

If I don't guess correctly, you get a beautiful little bun iced with a lovely, sweet icing.

Lenral [Katie]:

Okay, that's-that's a pretty good. That’s pretty good.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yeah. I’ll-I’ll take those odds.

Ash [Talya]:

Wait, but how do we know if you're wrong?

Grunik [Thomas]:

Because I have a scale right here.

Ash [Talya]:

Oh, okay.

Lenral [Katie]:

Oh convenient.

Grunik [Thomas]:

Yes.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

So we're effectively paying half a ryn coin for an iced bun.

Grunik [Thomas]:

Well-

Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah, do we get our money back if you're wrong?

Grunik [Thomas]:

No, no, if-if I'm wrong, you get the bun. If I'm right-

Lenral [Katie]:

So can I just pay for the bun?

[Thomas is laughing]

Grunik [Thomas]:

No, not how this works.

Ash [Talya]:

Are they made in house or in-tent? Are they in-tent made?

Grunik [Thomas]:

No.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Where’d you get them from?

Grunik [Thomas]:

We have a baker in the carnival itself. I don't make the buns myself, but-

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Oh, so let's just go visit the baker.

Ash [Talya]:

Yeah let’s go to the baker.

Lenral [Katie]:

Let’s just visit the baker, yeah.

Grunik [Thomas]:

No. The baker di-they only make it for me. Only for me!

Ash [Talya]:

The baker died?!

[Katie laughs]

Katie:

The troll is spreading out his arms so we can’t-

Grunik [Thomas]:

No! No!

Ash [Talya]:

Len, the baker died. We should get something.

Samkit:

[laughing] I think he was saying the baker doesn't, but he cut it off at the duh, so it sounded like the baker died.

Talya:

I heard the baker died! My goodness.

Samkit:

Yeah.

Grunik [Thomas]:

No. Let me guess your weight. Half a ryn coin each.

Katie:

We see-there’s a group of people near here-walking nearby, they go,

Random Folks [Katie]:

Oh my god, the baker died?

Ash [Talya]:

The baker died!

Paatarak [Samkit]:

The baker didn't die!

Random Folks [Katie]:

Oh, he was so young!

[cheerful carnival music starts]

Thomas:

You hear this rumor begin to spread through the carnival. People starting to, like, yell and riot-

[sounds of yelling, fire, crashes]

Thomas:

-and suddenly you see a fire begin to burn in the middle of the carnival as the carnival goers, having heard this rumor spread by you three, accidentally, are full on rioting and starting to just torch the carnival.

[music ends]

Grunik [Thomas]:

What have you done? The baker’s fine.

Lenral [Katie]:

You're right. He was-he lived in our hearts.

Ash [Talya]:

He lives in our memories.

Grunik [Thomas]:

No! Not how that works!

Paatarak [Samkit]:

He’ll always live on. Through his iced buns.

Lenral [Katie]:

They never go away.

Katie:

Lenral hands him three ryn-or two…one and a half ryn coins and takes some buns-sticky buns from him.

[brief pause]

Ash [Talya]:

So how much do I weigh?

Thomas:

You see this guy full-on break down and just, like, starts running into the carnival and goes,

Grunik [Thomas]:

Belix. Belix, where are you? Where are you, Belix?

Thomas:

Running after the person who seems to be the baker.

Lenral [Katie]:

You guys want some buns?

Ash [Talya]:

Oh yes.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

[Laughing] I’ll take a sticky bun.

Thomas:

As the carnival begins to burn down behind you, you all continue descending.

Katie:

We all start eating our-

Lenral [Katie]:

Ash, you gotta spit out the gum before you eat the bun. That's just gross.

[Thomas laughs]

[Talya makes a popping sound with her mouth]

Thomas:

And now we return- [Thomas makes a returning sound]

[quick descending xylophone sting]

Thomas:

-to the present moment where you all are staring at [starts laughing] the burnt remnants of many carnival tents.

[the cast laughs]

Thomas:

Everybody made it out fine, but you see, it's been largely abandoned, so you have to kind of pick your way now-you can take the slightly shorter route through this carnival, but you see some like debris moving over to one corner.

Ash [Talya]:

Hello!

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Hello?

Ash [Talya]:

Belix?

Thomas:

You see emerging from underneath some of this, like, burned rubble, you see Grunik from last night, like kind of pushes himself up.

Grunik [Thomas]:

[Yawns] Oh. Oh, you three.

Ash [Talya]:

Hello, we're here to get our weight guessed.

Grunik [Thomas]:

I-

Lenral [Katie]:

No, Ash, that’s not why we’re here.

Ash [Talya]:

Oh, sorry.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

You slept here?

Grunik [Thomas]:

I fell asleep once the fires were put out last night. You three are responsible for the destruction of the thing I cared about most in the world. What do you have to say for yourselves?

(In unison)

Lenral [Katie]:

Have you seen any speaking plants?

(In unison)

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Have you seen-

[The cast laughs]

Grunik [Thomas]:

Speaking plants? No. All of the speaking plants went with the people when they fled. Are you looking for speaking plants?

Paatarak [Samkit]:

We seem to have lost ours.

Grunik [Thomas]:

Good! It's what you deserve!

Ash [Talya]:

That’s not very nice.

Lenral [Katie]:

Whoa!

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Wow, really aggressive energy coming from you this morning.

Ash [Talya]:

What did we ever do to you?

Grunik [Thomas]:

You led to the burning down of Crintop’s Carnival of Curiosities!

Paatarak [Samkit]:

There's a lot of-there's a lot of blaming going on for something I feel like wasn't our fault.

[Talya chuckles]

Grunik [Thomas]:

Listen. Turn back around. I must-I must be like other troll kin and prevent your passage from going further. Turn back.

Ash [Talya]:

Well, you're just playing to stereotypes.

Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah. You shouldn't have to feel confined to that.

Grunik [Thomas]:

I don't think it's a stereotype. My mother was a bridge troll. My father was an overpass troll.

Ash [Talya]:

But is it what you want to be doing?

Grunik [Thomas]:

Right now, yes! I don't want you to get what you want right now. I’m very upset with you.

Ash [Talya]:

[Makes an agreeing sound]

Lenral [Katie]:

So you could say, in a way-in a way we kind of helped you find your calling.

Ash [Talya]:

[Overlapping] Find your passion in life.

Lenral [Katie]:

We reignited that passion in you similar to how the carnival-

Paatarak [Samkit]:

[Overlapping] Too soon, Lenral. Too soon.

Lenral [Katie]:

Okay sorry.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Lenral way too soon.

Grunik [Thomas]:

Wow. Listen, you three should turn around because you're not getting through here. Not at all.

Lenral [Katie]:

Right, so we need to actually go through there. We need to find our speaking plants. My sister has a radio show, and it's later this morning, and we’ve got to listen. So we're just going to-

Katie:

Lenral tries to step around-just like, casually sidle around him.

Thomas:

He just puts an arm to the side, like, blocking you.

Katie:

[Laughing] Lenral tries to limbo under the arm.

Thomas:

The arm goes down to block you.

Katie:

He gets more and more-

Ash [Talya]:

You seem like-you seem like a man of wisdom-

Grunik [Thomas]:

Yes.

Ash [Talya]:

-and intrigue.

Grunik [Thomas]:

Yes.

Ash [Talya]:

How about we make you a deal?

Grunik [Thomas]:

Oh?

Katie:

Lenral is sliding along the ground trying to get under this arm.

Ash [Talya]:

If you can guess the weight of all three of us correctly, we will leave and let you be and respect your choice. But if you guess incorrectly, we can make our way through.

Thomas:

You know what? We’re gonna do a roll.

[plucky, chill music]

For those of you tuning in for the first time, we're playing a game that we're calling "Adventures in Grevelon", which is Powered by Cortex Prime. The way rolls in our game work is that I'll set a difficulty for the character by creating a pool of multiple dice based on the difficulty of the challenge. Then, our players will assemble a dice pool of their own and attempt to beat the challenge as effectively as possible.

[music ends]

This is going to be actually a pretty standard difficulty. We're going to call it two d6s, but I'm going to add the added difficulty of-of a d8 with you three being the [laughing] destroyers of this carnival. Accidentally, of course. But-

Katie:

We need to add that to our titles, you know like, “Ashallynniamehra Ginggleppossumm. Talent Agent-

Talya:

[In a scary voice; overlapping] Destroyer of Carnivals!

Katie:

[Laughing] Destroyer of Carnivals.

Thomas:

Keeping in line with the history of my rolls, I hitched one of my dice-

Samkit:

Ooh!

Katie:

Ooh!

Thomas:

-but that is a difficulty of five.

Talya:

So I'm going to use my distinction I Am a Connection Seeker, but I'm going to hinder myself because this character doesn't seem to very much enjoy our company, weirdly enough. I'm also going to use my d8 for Charm and my d8 for Influence.

Thomas:

Great.

Talya:

Yeah? Okay.

Thomas:

That works.

Talya:

Great. And I don't think that any of my specialties really work for this. So-

[Dice roll]

Talya:

I maxed.

[Thomas and Samkit gasp]

Katie:

YEAHAAAA!!

Samkit:

YO!

Thomas:

Oh my God!

Talya:

So I got the four on the d4 and the eight on the d8.

Thomas:

So go ahead and reroll the d4 and add that to the total.

Talya:

Okay. Even if it's a one, it doesn't matter, right?

Thomas:

Correct. This is just adding to the total.

Talya:

Another four.

Thomas:

Oh my god.

Katie:

[Laughing] Yeesss!

Talya:

So a 16 with a d8 effect die.

Thomas:

Oh-

Katie:

And the difficulty was- what was the difficulty again?

Thomas:

Uh, five.

[The cast laughs]

Thomas:

So, this is a heroic success is something that is-that is, like, five over or more.

Talya:

Try 11!

Thomas:

This is 11 over. What happens, Talya?

Katie:

This-this troll falls in love with you.

[Talya and Samkit laugh]

Talya:

I think this troll realizes that there is a way to combine his love for guessing weight and his family's heritage of being a guardian of a place, and he can combine those two, where he can guard people entering a place and only allow them to cross by guessing their weight. And, he's able to mix those two passions in life.

[Thomas laughs hard]

Talya:

And he's so thankful to Ash for helping him realize.

Grunik [Thomas]:

You offered this deal, but I realize I don’t-

[pauses as the PCs are laughing quietly in the background]

Grunik [Thomas]:

-I don't need-

Katie:

A tear rolls down his cheek.

Talya:

[Laughing so hard the words are almost silent] A single tear.

Thomas:

Just one big, globby tear rolls down his, his face. He like kneels so that he's like face to face with you, Ash, and goes,

Grunik [Thomas]:

You are very wise.

Ash [Talya]:

Fairy.

Grunik [Thomas]:

You are-

Ash [Talya]:

Fairy wise.

Grunik [Thomas]:

You are fairy, fairy wise-

[Talya giggles]

Grunik [Thomas]:

-and I suppose that when things look bleak, letting yourself find new ways to do the things you love is important, and I'm going to move forward with that. You three can pass.

Ash [Talya]:

I'm so proud of you. Oh my goodness.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Thank you!

Ash [Talya]:

Thank you so much and best of luck.

Katie:

Lenral did not follow how we got here so quickly-how things changed so quickly. He's still on the ground trying to limbo under this troll’s arm and then when the troll leaned down-

Thomas:

You fully got flattened to the ground.

Katie:

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

[Katie makes a grunting sound of being flattened]

Lenral [Katie]:

[Strained] Great job, Ash.

Thomas:

This-this troll is just like, sobbing, like,

Grunik [Thomas]:

[Crying] So it's a new sta-a new lease on life.

Talya:

That was the most exciting roll I've ever done.

Thomas:

As you three make your way past this troll.

Katie

We're giving him, like, sympathetic, like, pats on the shoulder as we walk by.

Samkit:

Yeah. Just pats on the-yeah.

Talya:

Oh, my god. My heart is still pounding.

[Katie chuckles]

Thomas:

As we move on, we will flashback once more to yesterday-

[quick ascending xylophone sting]

[gentle clarinet music starts]

-before you even approached Crintop’s Carnival of Curiosities, you entered a small forested area in which your path was blocked off by a herd of blalans, which are this quite tall creature.

They’re about five feet tall from, from hoof to back, with this like long, like, antelope-like face, big ram-style horns that kind of curl three or four different times, this like kind of patchy wooly coat as they just graze through the forest. But there are sooo many of them here. As you approach them, one of them looks up at you like kind of blinks, very, like, triangle pupils, and goes,

Blalan [Thomas]:

[bleats]

[Samkit snickers]

Katie:

Sorry, can we get that clean?

Thomas:

It goes,

Blalan [Thomas]:

[bleats twice]

[Samkit laughs]

Talya:

So good.

Thomas:

There's like a chorus of them going,

[Thomas starts making the blalan sound, Katie, and Samkit join in]

[Talya joins in a little delayed]

[Samkit and Thomas laugh]

Thomas:

But this-this chorus, as soon as it's started, becomes very, very loud, and there's really no way through as you, like, turn back to hopefully go around the forest. The herd is actually kind of encircled you now, as you're within this circle of blalans.

Katie:

Literally herding us.

Thomas:

Literally herding you.

Samkit:

Okay. So we're in the flashback right now, right?

Thomas:

Yes.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Do any of you guys know how to do like a wingleobber impression?

[Katie laughs quietly]

Lenral [Katie]:

A wingleobber, the famous the the famous predator of the-of the blalans?

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yeah, that one. That one.

Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah. Wait, let me- [clears throat] let me see. I used to have a really good impression. I haven’t done it in a while. Let me see if I can.

[brief pause]

[Samkit giggles]

Talya:

Ash is going to come and massage your shoulders.

Thomas:

Mhm, yeah.

Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah, yeah. Thank you. Okay. Sorry. I'm a little nervous. [Katie clears her throat again]

[Katie makes a sound like they’re gagging; the cast LOSES it]

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Can you do that again so I can get it and I can do it as well? We can kind of try to get these-

Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah. Well, why don't you-because I don't think that was quite it. Why don't you give me what you think it sounds like.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Okay, well, I-if I remember correctly, it's kind of like,

[Samkit makes a sound akin to a reverse, melodic gag]

Lenral [Katie]:

That was better.

[The blalans start going nuts]

Paatarak [Samkit]:

There’s a little more, like, scoop to it, you know what I mean?

Lenral [Katie]:

There is a little more of a scoop to it.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yeah.

Lenral [Katie]:

It's funny because you see, like, you know, when people tell stories about them, they usually do a specific sound, but that's not actually what they sound like.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

No, no.

Lenral [Katie]:

Ash, why don't you-why don't you hit us with what you thi-have you ever-have you ever encountered a win-a wingle-

Thomas:

[Laughing] A wingleobber?

Samkit:

[Laughing] wingleobber.

[Talya makes the sound of blowing a bubble, followed by a bubble pop]

Talya:

[Laughing] Does it do anything?

[Katie and Samkit laugh]

Thomas:

With the combined effect of the the storybook wingleobber sound, the real wingleobber sound, and the bubble pop, there's a chorus of-

[Thomas makes the blalan sound]

-as these creatures just full on like take off and start like, running around.

Katie:

I, like, grab Ash and, like, hold her high above because they're like, stampeding as I like hold her out of-out of the way.

Thomas:

You three are left alone and a like, clearish path eventually makes its way obvious through the forest, though you're having to like, kind of duck and dodge a little bit as you move.

Lenral [Katie]:

I guess we'll never know which sound was, was the right one.

Ash [Talya]:

Team effort, but this time I'll give it to Paat.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Oh!

Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah, I agree.

Ash [Talya]:

Yeah.

Lenral [Katie]:

I think yours was the best.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Thanks.

Thomas:

As we [whoosing sound]-

[quick descending xylophone scale]

Thomas:

-return back to the present day, as you approach this kind of forested area, a bunch of the trees have been knocked over.

Katie:

Lenral tries to remember if we had something to do with that.

[Samkit chuckles]

Thomas:

As you see these big holes that have formed in the ground, and you feel like a rumbling of the ground under your feet as you see bursting out of the ground-

[rumbling]

[ominous music starts]

Thomas:

-this large, like, it has like the proportions of a wolf but is like reptilian with these big jaws with sharp teeth. As it fully burrows out of the ground, leaps up, starts like prowling around, like sniffing makes the sound-Samkit, can I hear the sound one more time just so I can do it?

[music ends]

Talya:

It was a scoop up.

[Samkit, having fully forgotten the sound he made, makes a scooping up sound]

Samkit:

No.

[Samkit makes a slightly different scoop up sound, then returns to the first]

Talya:

No. I think the first time was good, actually.

[Thomas mimics]

Talya:

It actually might be even funnier if the real one is nothing like either of them.

[Thomas starts laughing]

Katie:

[Laughing] Yeah.

Samkit:

[Laughing] Oh yeah.

Thomas:

[Laughing] You hear-you hear

[Thomas makes a stifled barking sound]

Lenral [Katie]:

That's it! That’s what it sounds like!

Talya:

That’s what it was. That’s what it was.

Samkit:

Ohhhh. Much lower.

[tense plucky music]

Thomas:

As this wingleobber is just like sniffing the ground, burrows deep underneath the ground again, bursts back up,

[wingleobber stifled barking]

You hear off in the distance.

[blalan bleat from far away]

This wingleobber seems to be looking for a fellow wingleobber that was in this area.

[music stops]

Lenral [Katie]:

Our impression was too good.

Katie:

Do we know-are wingle-are wingleobbers dangerous to us?

Thomas:

Very.

Katie:

Hmm.

Talya:

Oh.

Lenral [Katie]:

Okay. What have we all heard? What do we know about-uh, uh-

Katie:

I keep looking over at the name because, for some reason, it is not sticking in my head.

Talya:

Wingleobber?

Lenral [Katie]:

Okay, what do we know about wingleobbers? What-what do you do? What do you do?

Katie:

Lenral is saying this, like, very quietly to the other two.

Lenral [Katie]:

What do you do when you see one?

Paatarak [Samkit]:

So, there are three things you can do when you approach a wingleobber.

Lenral [Katie]:

Okay. Hit me.

Ash [Talya]:

Mm hmm.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

You can-one thing you shouldn't do: never make the sound of a blalan, and never make the sound of another wingleobber because they will approach you. So, we shouldn't do either of those.

Lenral [Katie]:

Okay, so, so what-what do you-what do you do?

Ash [Talya]

Don't you get really close to the ground?

Paatarak [Samkit]:

[Mumbling] Oh are we supposed to, okay…

Lenral [Katie]:

I think I've-I've heard that.

Katie:

They all slowly sink to the ground.

Samkit:

Yeah.

Ash [Talya]:

I think-I think wingleobbers can't turn their-they can't see below their, their chest, so we can just crawl past them.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Okay.

Lenral [Katie]:

All right.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Silently, everybody. Let's do it.

Katie:

And they start-they start crawling.

Thomas:

Mm hmm. You-you start crawling forward.

Talya:

And suddenly there's a puddle. [gasps]

[The cast laughs]

Samkit:

Paatarak has to go on a run.

[The cast laughs some more]

Thomas:

Yeah, you three begin to crawl forward.

Talya:

Yeah, Ash in solidarity doesn't just fly, she cr-she gets on the ground.

Thomas:

Gets on the ground.

Katie:

I think, like, she crawls for like two seconds. You immediately get left behind. And I think Lenral picks you up and puts you on Paatarak’s head.

Talya:

I'm actually crawling on Paatarak’s back.

Thomas:

So-

[The cast laughs]

Katie:

Yeah Lenral puts you on Paatarak’s back, and you just start crawling on Paatarak’s back.

Samkit:

Paatarak’s like-Paatarak’s like,

Paatarak [Samkit]:

[Whispered] Ash, Ash, just stay in one place. It tickles when you move.

Thomas:

[Laughing] Okay, so we're going to do another roll here. All three of you are going to roll against the difficulty here, which is going to be made up of-this is going to be fun: It's going to be two d4s for the difficulty here because you got close to the ground, you're crawling, which is a great strategy, except they are really good at sensing tremors on the ground, so that’s going to be an extra d12 to the difficulty. So I'm just going to roll this. Oh my god, that is two hitches.

Talya:

Whoa!

Thomas:

And a 12.

Samkit:

I had a feeling in my bones you were going to roll a 12. I don't know where it came from, but I was like-

Katie:

Samkit, you manifested. Why did you do that?

Samkit:

I didn't mean to!

Katie:

So I'm going to use my distinction World Wired, which is a d8. I'm going to use my Agility attribute, which is also a d8. I'll use my Sneak skill, which is a d6, and that is it for me.

Samkit

I'm going to use my distinction Follow my Inner Compass, which is a d8, my attribute Agility, which is a d6, and my skill Sneak, which is a d6. Really gotta roll well here.

Talya:

I'm going to use my distinction I Always See the Silver Lining which is a d8, with a d8 of Agility, and I think I'll try to do a d6 of Focus as I'm focusing on balancing on Paatarak’s back?

Thomas:

[Hesitant] Okay…

Katie:

[At Thomas’ reaction] Mmm!

Talya:

I can change it. I just thought I shouldn’t-Move has-

Samkit:

[Overlapping] Thomas has that look-

Thomas:

No, only-only because you canonically are on Paatarak's back right now. So all of you go ahead and roll against a difficulty 12 please.

[three dice rolls]

Samkit:

[Quietly] Oh no…

Thomas:

[Chuckling] Seeing a lot of upset faces.

Samkit:

Katie, you go first since you went first in the-

Katie:

Talya, you go first.

Talya:

Okay. I only got an eight with a d8 effect die.

Thomas:

Oh.

Katie:

I got an 11-

Thomas:

Mhm.

Katie:

-which is kind of close if that-if you get anything from that, with a d8 effect die.

Samkit:

I rolled a hitch, so I got a nine with a D4 effect die.

Thomas:

[Taking a deep breath] So...

Lenral [Katie]:

Ohh, Liisphyra’s going to kill me.

Thomas:

[Laughing] Oh boy.

[tense plucking music starts]

Thomas:

You all are sneaking by. Paatarak, you scrape your, like, stomach along some, like, jutting out stone, so I'm going to give you the d6 complication, Scraped Stomach.

Samkit:

Great.

[ominous music]

Thomas:

As you hear from under the ground,

[Thomas makes a wingleobber sound, stifled bark]

As bursting out of the ground, this reptilian creature lands, and lands just far enough away that it can see the three of you and is going to begin to approach you.

[music ends]

Thomas:

And starts to sniff you.

[sniffing sound]

[ominous music builds]

And, then it opens up its jaws…

[music stops]

Thomas:

…and it eats you.

[musical button]

[Thomas laughs quietly]

Katie:

And then we wake up, and it was a nightmare!

Thomas:

You all are in the large, cavernous mouth of this creature, it's a massive creature, as you feel it diving in under the ground, and you are all eventually spat out onto the ground.

Samkit:

Oh, okay.

Talya:

Oh thank god.

Thomas:

As you see, you are in this large underground cavern. Skeletons of previous meals piled up against one wall.

Talya:

Are there any fairy-sized skeletons?

Thomas:

No.

Talya:

Thank god.

Thomas:

It's mostly blalans. You do see a few, like, very confused, like, living blalans just, like, kind of looking around.

[Thomas makes the blalan sound]

Talya:

What are the chances our speaking plants are here?

Katie:

[Chuckling] Lenral looks around for his speaking plant.

Thomas:

No speaking plant.

Katie:

Not an herbivore.

Thomas:

As you see, the wingleobber kind of snarls-

[Thomas makes the wingleobber sound followed by some snarling, communicating sounds]

-and then begins to burrow back up above ground, as you three are now kind of in this underground cavern.

Katie:

Lenral like, you know, like, shakes his-they're like all covered in-

Thomas:

In this like gross reptilian saliva.

Samkit:

Yeah, shake it off.

Katie:

-spit and, yeah, just like, shakes off a little bit, wipes off the arms.

Lenral [Katie]:

Eugh.

Katie:

Wipes off his face.

Lenral [Katie]:

Oh, no, my skin care regimen!

[Thomas and Samkit laugh]

Talya:

Ash is having a hard time flying because she's so weighed down.

Thomas and Katie:

[In unison] Ohhh!

Samkit:

Paatarak is going to take her and be like,

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Ash, jus-just-

Ash [Talya]:

Shake me.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

-I'm going to shake you off. Okay?

[The cast laughs]

Katie:

Can you blow with your trunk?

Samkit:

Paatarak blows-

[Samkit mimics a bad trumpet blaring]

-all over everybody, makes a loud noise.

[Thomas makes a blalan noise]

Thomas:

Yeah. You all are down here-

Samkit:

Is there any, like, seeming exit?

Thomas:

There are very steep tunnels that kind of lead up above to the ground.

Samkit:

Are blalans anything like mountain goats?

Thomas:

Are blalans anything like mountain goats? Good question.

Talya:

Good question. [claps]

Thomas:

And you want to know what the answer is?

Samkit:

Hmm.

Thomas:

In ways that aren't helpful right now, yes.

Samkit:

Man.

[Katie laughs]

Thomas:

They-they love to lick salty rocks, but they cannot climb high enough to, like, get up high to lick salty rocks.

Katie

How high-how high-did you, sorry, did you say how high up is the-?

Talya:

Steep.

Thomas:

Well, so-yeah, it's-it looks like there are some, like, kind of at head level for you Lenral, but they like go at, like, trying to think of what angle that would be, a really, really steep angle…

Samkit:

Like a solid 60.

Talya:

Yeah. Like a 80 degree-

Katie:

90-80. Yeah it’d be like 80-

Thomas:

It’s like an 80 degree angle.

Samkit:

Love that. Yeah. I took trigonometry.

Lenral [Katie]:

Paat, could we do a-like a lasso...is there anything with the lasso that we can like pull ourselves…?

Paatarak [Samkit]:

We could use one of the bones and like, create like a pick and crawl up and then keep throwing it.

Talya:

Hey, Tale Keeper.

Thomas:

Yeah.

Talya:

Are-what are they called? I'm sorry. Wimble-wimbledon?

Thomas:

Wingleobbers.

[Samkit laughs]

Talya:

[Laughing] Wingleobbers. Are wingleobbers known for returning through the same tunnel that they just exited from?

Thomas:

No, they're not. They actually tend to-one of the things that is kind of dangerous about them being present in places is that if they create too many tunnels, the ground can kind of like sink in a little bit.

Talya:

Collapse. For sure.

Thomas:

This one seems to have not been in the area for long enough for that to be a real concern right now, but...

Katie:

Ash can fly. We keep forgetting that.

Talya:

Ash can fly.

Lenral [Katie]:

So do you want to-maybe try to see if you can pull-

Ash [Talya]:

But, in solidarity, I'm not leaving you here.

Lenral [Katie]:

Well okay.

Ash [Talya]:

That's the only reason.

Lenral [Katie]:

[Laughing] But what if we ask you to?

[Samkit laughs]

Ash [Talya]:

Oh goodness.

Lenral [Katie]:

So what if we do what Paat said, and tie the lasso to, like, you know-or we don't even need to do anything but see if you can just pull up-fly up the lasso, see if you could hook it on to something? And then we can climb out.

Ash [Talya]:

[Overlapping] And then you can. Oh climb. Because I was like, I can't carry you, but, like just climb it?

Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah.

Ash [Talya]:

Okay.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

It is a magical rope because, you know, hydras keep-hydras are very big and can go anywhere, so it is a rope that can jump to other points, can get a little long, you know.

Ash [Talya]:

Okay, I don't mind doing that as long as you guys are okay with me leaving you.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yeah.

Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah, we’ll-we'll miss you. But-

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Of course.

Lenral [Katie]:

I think it's for the best.

Ash [Talya]:

Well, my presence is irreplaceable.

Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah, definitely. Gone but never forgotten.

Ash [Talya]:

Just like the baker.

Thomas:

What's the game plan?

Talya:

Okay, so I'm going to take one end of the lasso.

Thomas:

Mhm.

Talya:

And I'm going to fly up the tunnel and see if I can find a sturdy tree, perchance-

Thomas:

Sure.

Talya:

-to tie my end of the lasso to.

Thomas:

Do you fly up the one the wingleobber just left from?

Talya:

Yes, please.

Thomas:

Okay, so you fly up that tunnel. The lasso’s very long, and it's just long enough-

Talya:

Hmm.

Thomas:

-to wrap around the base of a, not a tree up above the hole, but a-

Talya:

A root?

Thomas:

-root system that kind of, like, intersects the hole here. So you tie that around the root.

Talya:

And then I'll fly back and say,

Ash [Talya]:

Okay, proceed with caution. Give it a tug.

Samkit:

Paatarak will tug it really hard.

Talya:

Does it seem sturdy?

Thomas:

It seems sturdy.

Katie:

All right.

Talya:

Okay. Well, there's nothing else I can do!

Lenral [Katie]:

Paat, do you want to go first and I'll-I'll catch you if it fails?

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Sure.

Lenral [Katie]:

Okay.

Samkit:

Paatarak will start climbing up the-up the rope.

Katie:

Lenral stands underneath with his arms out ready to catch.

Talya:

And I'm going to go back up and maybe try to keep some eyes out for the return of the wingleobber.

Thomas:

Okay.

Katie:

[To the tune of “Return of the Mack”] Return of the wingleobber. Once again. Return-

Thomas:

It is a difficult climb, Paatarak, because you are essentially climbing-it's like climbing up the side of a building, but one with a very slight slant, so it takes you like ten minutes.

Katie:

Lenral’s arms get tired from holding them out, and he kind of just stands there.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Lenral, I think you can come up. If I fall, I can probably land on the, you know, side of the tunnel here.

Lenral [Katie]:

Okay.

Ash [Talya]:

How about I go back down and then I will keep my arms open in case Lenral-?

Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah, Ash, you spot me while I can climb

Ash [Talya]:

Yeah, for sure.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yeah.

Thomas:

Yeah.

Katie:

All right. Lenral will start climbing. I think when Ash, or when Paatarak is, like, halfway up, he'll start climbing too.

Thomas:

Cool. I'm actually looking at all of your-

Talya:

Man, if only we knew how much we each weighed.

[The cast laughs hard]

Thomas:

Yeah, that would’ve been great. That would’ve been real helpful now.

Katie:

That would’ve been so convenient.

Thomas:

You climb Lenral. Lenral, it takes you about 5 minutes because you do have better brawn than Paatarak.

Samkit:

Hey. Hey. Hey. What are you saying about Paatarak?

Thomas:

Paatarak has a d6 of Brawn.

Katie

Oh yeah wait. Literally climbing is one of my specialties.

Thomas:

Climbing is one of Len’s specialties. This is a thing he's good at-

Samkit:

No I know, I know.

Thomas:

-but it's still really difficult. This is not like climbing a tree-

Katie:

He is of the forest.

Thomas:

But eventually you get out. Ash, you're keeping an eye out for the wingleobber. You hear,

[Thomas makes a wingleobber sound]

Talya:

Which one’s that? Which one is that?

Samkit:

[Quietly] That’s the wingleobber.

Thomas:

Starting to get closer. That’s the wingleobber.

Katie:

[Laughing] That’s the wingleobber.

Talya:

Okay.

Thomas:

Do you do anything to try to distract it?

Talya:

Well, first I'm going to like try to whisper-yell to Paatarak and Len,

Ash [Talya]:

Keep going. Just when you get up to the top, stay as close to the ground as possible. I'll be right back.

Paatarak [Samkit] and Lenral [Katie]:

[In unison, muffled as if in a cavern] Okay.

Talya:

I would like to go and in the-in the same energy of throwing your voice, with the blalan noise, but Ash can't throw her voice. She's tried. She just wants to, like, zip around and try to make blalan noises in maybe an attempt to confuse, and maybe throw in another wingleobber noise every once in a while.

Thomas:

[Laughing] Oh god.

Talya:

In the opposite direction of the tunnel. Please.

Thomas:

Okay. This is going to be another roll, actually. I wasn't sure if I going to have this be a roll. However, this is not going to be a difficult thing.

Talya:

Yeah.

Thomas:

I'm going to say that this is just going to be a 2d6 difficulty.

Talya:

Okay.

Thomas:
That's going to be difficulty-oh, no, that's a difficulty of ten.

Talya:

Okay.

Katie:

Thomas!

Thomas:

Sorry!

Samkit:

Thomas, stop rolling so well.

Katie:

Why did you do that?

Talya:

It’s okay, it’s okay.

Katie:

No, Talya, it's not okay. You can't do that to our friend!

[The cast laughs]

Talya:

Okay. Okay. I'm going to use a d8 for Quick to Speak.

Thomas:

Okay.

Talya:

I think makes sense. I would also like to do a d8 for Agility, and I would like to spend a plot point to add more dice to my roll and also add a d8 of Charm.

Thomas:

Okay, sure.

Talya:

And then-does d8 of Move, is that fine as well?

Thomas:

That's fine. Yeah. That's-that's you trying to move fast enough to not be spotted while you're doing the distraction. I think that totally works.

[Dice roll]

Talya:

Whoa. Okay, that's fantastic. So I got a 14 with a d8 effect die.

Thomas:

Whoa. Okay-

Katie:

[Celebratory] Yeahaaa!

Samkit:

Wooo!

Talya:

I rolled three sevens on three of the eights.

Thomas:

That’s-

Katie

[Singing “777”] Seven. Seven. Seven. Let’s gooo!

Thomas:

That's amazing. So as you are making these noises, Talya, can you give me your version of [the blalan noise] and [the wingleobber noise]?

Talya:

Yeah. Okay. I don't know why I'm hesitating. [laughs] The blalan first:

[Talya mimics the blalan]

Yeah?

[Thomas laughs]

Katie:

Yeah. Great. Great.

Samkit:

Amazing. Amazing.

Talya:

And then also interspersed with:

[Talya makes a bubble popping sound]

Can’t hurt.

[Thomas and Samkit laugh]

Thomas:

Sure.

Katie:

Throw some confusion in there.

Talya:

[Laughing] Another-Another bubble pop.

[The cast laughs]

Talya:

And then-

[Talya mimics the wingleobber sound]

Is that what it is?

[Samkit loses it]

Talya:

I think that's what it was. Was it that? I don’t know.

Samkit:

[Laughing] That was so good.

Thomas:

As you do this, you see the wingleobber bursts up from the ground, is like prowling around like,

[Thomas does the wingleobber noise, which the cast is really starting lose at this point]

but cannot find you as you and your friends slip out of that tunnel and out of this area.

As we get to one final challenge, this rocky overpass in the middle of-

[The cast laughs]

Talya:

My goodness.

Katie:

[Laughing] Finally, we've made it to the rocky overpass.

Thomas

This rocky overpass as-

Talya:

In my head, overpass is like under a highway. Is that what this is?

Thomas:

So there is a main road that is in, like, a bit of a gorge down below that this rocky overpass goes over as we [Thomas’s whooshing time travel noise™] go past.

So yesterday-

[ascending xylophone sting]

Thomas:

-this was after the flower field, the first thing you encountered. As you saw this very thin rocky overpass, kind of rocks jutting out of various places over this little path.

Katie:

I think Lenral turns his staff to the side like a tightrope walker uses, like, the stick for balance.

Samkit:

Ooh.

Katie:

And that's how he's going to approach this challenge.

Talya:

Ash takes her pencil and does the same thing, but then flies.

[The cast laughs hard]

Thomas

Oh my-

Katie:

Perfect balance.

Thomas:

Leaving Paatarak on the other side to cross.

Samkit:

I'm so wrong for making this a thing when I'm an elephant. I'm an elephant! Anyway, I think Paatarak is going to like, willingly make his ears go out to give himself balance, like to-effectively creating a stick on his head. And just like-

Talya:

[Laughing] Do you know what ears look like?

Katie:

Yeah, I’m trying to picture that.

Samkit:

No, but like elephant-you know how elephant ears are like, this big.

Thomas:

[Overlapping] Just like rolledl-

Talya:

Sure. Yeah.

Samkit:

So, like-

Thomas:

Sure. Creating air resistance as you move across.

Samkit:

Yeah. And using his trunk to kind of like part the seas of the air, if you will.

[Thomas is laughing so hard in the background]

Talya:

Oh my god. Just shuffle-shimmy sideways!

Thomas:

[Laughing] So as Paatarak-

Katie:

There's like a physicist who's listening to this right now who’s, like, shaking their fist at their phone.

Samkit:

[As physicist] None of this adds up!

Thomas:

As Paatarak crosses this gorge, there's like a gust of wind-

[gust of wind]

Thomas:

-that both Lenral and Ash experience, coming up from the gorge below. You know how like air sometimes like really buffets through essentially a tunnel?

Katie:

Yeah. We've all crossed gorges before, right?

Thomas:

Yeah.

Talya:

Jimmy Buffets through?

Thomas:

Really, really strong wind.

Katie:

[Singing “Cheeseburger in Paradise”] Cheeseburger in paradise…

Samkit:

[mumbles part of “Margaritaville”]

[Talya laughs]

[quick, urgent music starts]

[wind noises]

Thomas:

Paatarak, your ears are like going against a really strong wind, and so you're having to, like, lean forward as you walk, and as you walk, you feel-like you go down with a foot pretty hard because you’re having to counteract this wind, trying to blow you back as you feel, or you hear a-

[Thomas makes a sound of a rock cracking and dropping something from a great height]

- as you hear a little pebble fall into the gorge below.

[music ends]

Ash [Talya]:

Don't worry about it, Paat. We can get you another pebble.

[Katie and Samkit chuckle]

Samkit:

I think Paatarak is going to say to Lenral and Ash, be like,

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Get across and then I'm going to run because I have a feeling this is going to fall apart.

Thomas:

Len is already across.

Samkit:

Okay, Paatarak zzzips. Paatarak guns it. Runs as fast as he can.

Thomas:

You zip, running as you hear more-

[Thomas makes more cracking noises]

-as the overpass begins to crumble a little bit behind you. And, by the time you get across, there's a whole gap missing.

Talya:

Oh my god. Paatarak really said, “Run, you fools.”

[The cast laughs]

Katie:

Lenral-Lenral turns around and looks back at the empty space now and goes,

Lenral [Katie]:
Phew. Well, good thing we don't have to come back this way.

[Samkit laughs]

Thomas:

As we- [whoosh]

[descending xylophone scale]

Thomas:

-return to the present time, as you arrive back at the gorge with a no longer functioning overpass.

Lenral [Katie]:

Huh.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Huh.

Lenral [Katie]:

You guys see the speaking plants anywhere on this side of the gorge? Maybe? Hopefully?

Paatarak [Samkit]:

[Defeated] No.

Ash [Talya]:

I would like to go out over the gorge and look down.

Thomas:

Yeah, you look down. There's rubble down where, like, the bridge collapsed. There's like a thin kind of snaking path that's now, like, blocked off by this rubble, as well as-

Talya:

Is there an elevator, by any chance?

Thomas:

Uh, no!

[The cast laughs]

Katie:

Yeah. Thomas, is there an elevator?

Thomas:

No there’s not. What there are are a lot of-

Katie:

Can I spend a plot point to create an elevator?

[Samkit laughs]

Talya:

Temporary asset: elevator.

Thomas:

I need you to know you could do that right now.

[Katie laughs and Talya gasps]

Thomas:

You could legitimately spend a plot point to create a temporary asset that would interact with the terrain right now.

Talya:

Do it. What else are you going to do?

Thomas:

As Ash looks down, what does Ash see? If you want to do this.

Katie:

You know what we see? And I'm going to spend my plot point to show what we see. At the bottom of the gorge is a springy sprong. Now, let me explain to you what a springy sprong is.

Thomas:

Please.

Katie:

A springy sprong is-it's a plant, essentially. Mushroom-esqe, moss-esqe. It doesn't really fall into like a specific category. It is like a large patch of greenery that does essentially act as a very powerful trampoline. There are-people, like, cultivate, like, huge fields of springy sprongs for like kids and families to come and like play in, and there's also, you know, like athletic competitions with springy sprong and people do tricks and things like that.

But yeah, there's a huge patch of wild springy sprong at the bottom of this gorge, and with Lenral’s knowledge of this plant, it does seem like if we're able to jump correctly and, you know, give enough-bend our knees, it could efficiently, effectively, get us up over to the other side.

Samkit:

Because the other thing about springy sprongs is it entire- regardless of how much, like, area it has under it, it will bounce back with the exact amount of kinetic energy that you fall into it with, giving you the exact amount of height when you bend your knees appropriately.

Katie

The physicist who's listening to this podcast just started applauding. We got ‘em back with the phrase “kinetic energy.”

Ash [Talya]:

I have bad news. I have never jumped before.

Lenral [Katie]:

Well, here's the thing, Ash. You have wings.

Ash [Talya]:

[Relieved] Oh, right. You're right.

[The cast laughs]

Ash [Talya]:

That's why I’ve never jumped before.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yeah-

Katie

Lenral goes,

Lenral [Katie]:

Hey, Ash, don't-not too quickly, but slowly, look over your shoulder.

Ash [Talya]:

[Startled] Oh god!

[The cast laughs again]

Thomas:

Okay…

Lenral [Katie]:

Yeah, but also, Ash, if you want to experience jumping, I can hold on to you while I jump if you want to, just, like, come along for the ride.

Ash [Talya]:

Oh, my god. You know what? Life is all about new experiences.

Lenral [Katie]:

Love that attitude. Alright-

Ash [Talya]:

Strap me in!

[Katie and Samkit laugh]

Thomas:

So, now I will say, gives you the same kinetic energy, perhaps, but not necessarily the precise right angle.

Katie:

Sure.

Samkit:

Oh, yeah.

Thomas:

That is going to be something left a little bit up to chance.

Talya:

I also love the idea of Ash-like, potentially Ash jumping, but then being so light that just like-

[The cast laughs]

Thomas:

Yeah.

Katie:

Well, I guess we don't know how much Ash weighs.

Talya:

[Laughing] We don’t know how much Ash weighs.

Thomas:

This is going to be another contested role where I'm going to let this asset ride for both Paatarak and Lenral, so we're going to call this a d6 asset, and so I'm going to create a difficulty.

Now, the angle is going to be tough, and this side of the gorge is, slightly lower than the other side, so this is going to be kind of difficult. So we're going to call this a-let's go for one d8 and one d10 difficulty for kind of the angle of the jump and the height of the jump being the ten and the eight respectively.

Samkit:

[Quietly, as if bestowing a curse] Hitch.

Thomas:

That is a nine difficulty.

Katie:

Okay.

Talya:

Doable. Doable.

Katie:

Not too bad. Not too bad.

Talya:

Thomas, since I don't have a plot point, could I make-do a roll to try to help Len since he's holding me or should I just stay out of this roll?

Thomas:

Just stay out of this roll.

Talya:

Great. Why does it say on our sheet d8 or d4 plus PP?

Thomas:

When you hinder, you get a plot point.

Talya:

Oh, wait. So I hindered-

Thomas:

Oh yeah!

Talya:

-Connection Seeker. Do I get a plot point?

Thomas:

Yeah.

Katie:

Oh, so you can help?

Talya:

Can I help?

Thomas:

Yeah!

[plucky, chill music]

Altered rule to make our gameplay a little bit smoother. We are changing the way that player characters can help one another out. There's already a system in place to share one of your assets with another character by spending a plot point. So, now a player character can share one of their traits with a friend.

For example, if Ash wants to help out on this upcoming role, she could volunteer some of her Agility to Lenral. But, by spending the plot point to offer that bonus to the dice pool, the die size will be stepped down by one, which means that you cannot help someone with a trait that you have a d4 in because nothing gets smaller than a d4, but a d4 becomes a d4, d8 becomes a d6, and so on and so forth.

[music ends]

Talya:

Yeah, I would like to spend a plot point to add a-an additional d6 for Move to Len's role.

Thomas:

Alright.

Katie:

Because you have a d8 to Move.

Talya:

I have a d8 to Move.

Lenral:

So we're stepping it down one. Okay great.

Thomas:

Awesome.

Talya:

Yes. Do I roll or do you want to roll?

Katie:

Thank you, Ash.

Talya:

Of course!

Thomas

Len will include that in his dice pool.

Talya:

Oh, I-understood.

Katie:

Yeah. Okay, great. So I think I'm going to use my distinction Leap Before I Look, but I am going to hinder it because Lenral is literally leaping into this gorge, but he is going to take a moment to kind of, you know, figure out the angle and everything, so-

Thomas:

Good move.

Katie:

-that's going to be a d4. I'm going to use my d8 Agility. Um. I guess-

Talya:

You could do Throw as you're throwing yourself.

Katie:

[Laughing] I'm throwing myself into the gorge?

Samkit:

I LOVE that.

Katie:

Come on, Thomas. That’s funny.

Talya:

Come on!

Samkit:

These are ambiguous so that we can make fun decisions right, Thomas?

Thomas:

[Sighing heavily] I really would say that this is Move, but-

Katie:

[Laughing] No, I actually have so many dice right now, I mean, I don't want to jinx myself. I still might not be successful, but I'll do-I'll do Move.

Talya:

And then additional d6 of my-

Katie:

d6 Move and then additional d6 from-so, I'm rolling 3d6, a d8, and a d4.

Talya:

Yeah.

Thomas:

Great.

Samkit:

Fun.

Katie:

One of the d6s is from the springy sprong asset.

Thomas:

And Paatarak, what are you rolling?

Samkit:

I'm going to do Calloused Right Hand because I'm following Lenral.

Thomas:

Perfect.

Samkit:

For the first time. I'm not hindering my Calloused Right Hand with Lenral.

Talya:

That’s right! I love that.

Katie:

Yeahaa!

Thomas:

Woot woot!

Samkit:
A d6 Agility, a d8 with Know, so-because I'm gauging the angle that we're jumping at and a d6 from the temporary asset of the springy sprongs.

Thomas:

Amazing. So yeah, go ahead and roll against a difficulty of nine.

[dice rolls]

Katie:

Ohh. Oof.

Samkit:

Oh I thought I maxed. Okay.

Katie:

Okay, so that's going to be a 10 with a d6 effect die.

Thomas:

Beautiful.

Paatarak:

And that's going to be a 14 with a d6 effect die. I am not going to spend any plot points.

Talya:

Woo!

Thomas:

Wow. Okay. As you all,

[Thomas makes a BOING sound]

Off-actually-

Katie:

Actually, the sound is-

Thomas:

-Paatarak, you got a heroic success.

Katie:

Oh, okay. [Laughing] Samkit, you get to decide what the springy sprong sounds like.

Thomas:

Paatarak, as you all leap off from this edge of the chasm and fall to the springy sprong, what happens?

Samkit:

We jump. The thing goes,

[Samkit makes a garbled sound like a cartoon spring underwater]

[The cast laughs]

Samkit:

And it sends us flying, and I think Paatarak does a thing where he realizes Lenr-he's going to make it, but Lenral’s not, so he's going to take his trunk and grab Lenral’s hand and throw him up to make sure he fully lands. And, then Paatarak’s going to like land and roll.

Katie:

The whole time, Ash is strapped into Lenral’s shoulder.

Ash [Talya]:

[Screams like she’s on a rollercoaster]

[Katie and Thomas laugh]

Samkit:

And they both land, and they’re on the other side.

Ash [Talya]:

That was so cool! Can we do it again? Can we go back? Can we do it again? Can we do it again?

Lenral [Katie]:

I think that's enough springy sprong for me for one day.

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Yeah.

Katie:

Lenral bends over, hands on his knees.

[Lenral breathes heavy]

Thomas:

Looking up at the sky, Lenral, it is-you can't tell the exact time right now, but it's close to the time of the broadcast.

Katie:

I am quickly looking around to see if we can see our speaking plants.

[gentle clarinet music]

Thomas:

You start running, continuing back along your path until you approach this field of flowers. As you see, kind of almost blended into one section of the flowers, you see three little potted speaking plants.

Lenral [Katie]:

I found them! I found them!

Paatarak [Samkit]:

Oh, great!

Thomas:

Lenral, as you rush to go activate the speaking plant to tune into the radio station, we're going to do one final roll, which is going to be modified by the successes and failures thus far.

[music ends]

Katie:

Okay.

Talya:

We had two super successes.

Thomas:

You had two super successes, and you had one failure. This role will determine whether Lenral catches the broadcast of Dear Liisphrya on time.

Katie:

Whether he's a good brother or not.

[Samkit laughs]

Talya:

Oh, my god.

Katie:

The thing is-actually, you know what I think the reality is? I said all that earlier. I feel Liisphyra-she’d like for people to listen to her show. If he misses one, she does not-but he is very much like, “I have to listen to every show and I have to let her know that I'm listening and that I'm supportive.”

Samkit:

Yeah.

Talya:

Awww.

Katie:

Thinks that she really cares about it, and in reality, Liisphyra is like [high-pitched Liisphyra voice] “Yeah, it’s fine”

Thomas:

So, Lenral, you rushed towards where the speaking plants sit on the ground, go to activate yours, which is already tuned in to the Towering Forest Radio Station. This is going to be two d8s plus a d12-

[Talya gasps]

Thomas:

-for just the cascade of failures that you all experienced.

Katie and Talya:

[Indignant, in unison] Cascade?!

Thomas:

If-if like one of you had failed but two of you had succeeded, then that would have, that would have maybe been an extra d6, but this is going to be a d12 because all three of you failed.

Katie:

Literally, just the wingleobber interaction.

Talya:

It was just one! It was one obstacle.

Thomas:

Yeah I know. However, you're going to get two temporary assets to include in this roll. From Ash’s, let's call it-

Samkit:

Superheroic.

Talya:

[Chuckling] Wisdom.

Thomas:

Troll's Wisdom, you're going to get a bonus d12 yourself.

Talya:

In-troll-uition.

[Samkit laughs]

Thomas:

And from Paatarak’s Trunk Help, you're going to get a d10.

Katie:

Not as-doesn't roll off the tongue as much as…

Talya:

Yeah. As in-troll-uition.

Katie:

In-troll-uition.

[Samkit laughs[

Thomas:

That the difficulty is-

[Dice roll]

Thomas:

-first of all, I hitched.

Samkit:

Let's goo.

Thomas:

But that is a 14 difficulty.

Talya:

Okay. Okay.

Katie:

Wait, so who-am I rolling?

Thomas:

Yes, you are rolling.

Katie:

Okay, so I'm going to do a d8 World Wired. I feel like I've been doing Agility this whole time, but I'll stick with, you know-

Talya:

I mean, does it make sense to use something like Heart because you like-you love your sister so much?

Katie:

I mean. Yeah. Story wise, that's cute. Let's say it's a d-I mean, it's still a d8-

Talya:

Oh.

Katie

-but yeah, let's say a d8 Heart, because I love my sister so much. So, like, my instinct is to say a d4 for Notice to, like, find the speaking plant.

Thomas:

I think that's really fair.

Katie:

Arrrgh. I hate-

Samkit:

I mean, you have a d10 and a d12 temporary asset.

Katie:

Yeah, that's true. All right, so then I'm going to go with a d4 Notice because we're telling a beautiful story.

[Samkit laughs hard]

Katie:

I guess. And yeah, and I think that's all I'm going to do. So in total, I'm rolling a d12  and a d10, thanks to my friends, 2d8s and a d4. Okay.

[Dice roll]

Katie:

I maxed.

[Thomas and Talya gasp]

Samkit:

YOOO! This is your third max.

Katie:

Two d8s!

Samkit:

It's insane.

Thomas:

Uh, reroll one of them and add it to the-to the total.

[Dice roll]

Katie:

Four, so that's going to be 16, 20. That's going to be 20 with a d12 effect die.

Thomas:

Oh…my…goodness. For a moment, as you place your hand against the speaking plant, you're worried. You hear just a little sound of rustling leaves and then you hear,

[cheerful intro theme]

Liisphyra [Katie]:

Gooooood morning, Grevelon, and welcome back to Dear Liisphyra. My name’s Liisphyra Lyndambar. And if this is your first time tuning in, on this show I give advice to any folks and creatures who may need it!

Thomas:

And that is where we're going to end our story.

Talya:

Woooo!

Samkit:

Woooo!

Katie:

Yayy!

Samkit:

That was surreal to hear that live.

[Katie laughs]

Thomas

Yeah, that was really cool. That was really cool.

Samkit:

Not gonna lie to you guys, that was insane to hear that live.

[cheerful, upbeat music]
