Authority

Definition

All staff members are granted varying levels of authority, command, and data access to organization systems. This extends to in-game access like commands, as well as tangible information and tools like user IP addresses, billing information, and Discord communications. Staff members are authorized to use their full authority and access as they see fit in so far as is necessary to enforce the rules explicitly enumerated on all PeacefulCraft Network platforms. These platforms include Minecraft, Discord, the PeacefulCraft Website, Google Drive, YouTube, Twitch, and other interactions where the staff member(s) involved are officially representing PeacefulCraft Network. This policy also extends to any in-person interactions staff members may have with members of the community.

Catch-all Rule

Obey staff requests and instructions is a catch-all rule in effect on most PeacefulCraft Network platforms. A staff member’s authority to make requests and dictate instructions to users is guaranteed only insofar as is necessary to enforce other enumerated rules of the platform, uphold the integrity of the PeacefulCraft community, maintain general order within the community, protect other members of the community, and maintain physical and digital security of Network assets. Requests or instructions made which lack good faith in any of the aforementioned guaranteed scenarios are not within the scope of a staff member’s authority and will be dealt with in accordance with the termination section of this document.

Abuse of Authority

This authority is granted with the mutual understanding that all duties will be carried out with adherence to all the policies outlined in this document and that violation of any of these policies will be met with repercussions following the processes enumerated in the termination section of this document.

Expectations

Activity

All staff are expected to make an appearance on the server at least once a week. A consistent failure to meet this threshold will result in suspension and possible demotion of the offending staff member. If there are extenuating life circumstances which prevent regular attendance on the server, the staff member is responsible for communicating those circumstances to the Senior Administrator. The Senior Administrator and impacted staff are responsible for defining temporary expectations and responsibilities to be carried out until the staff member is able to return to regular duty. If a responsible agreement can not be reached and the regular expectations not met, then the Senior Administrator reserves the right to terminate the staff member.

Conduct

Staff members are expected to act in a composed and professional manner when performing their duties as network staff, representing the network, and interacting with members of the community. For the purpose of explicit reminder; members of the community include users and other members of staff. Any interactions which take place over one or more network platforms are subject to the conditions and expectations of this document. All interactions with community members where in which the primary common ground between staff and member(s) is the network are considered to be instances of representing the network and the applicable terms of this document would apply. Any staff member may also recommend to any other member of staff that they adhere to the conduct guidelines in this document in the event that special circumstances not explicitly enumerated in this document arise. Should any events come into contention where in which it is revealed a member of staff received such a conduct representation and choose to ignore it, the apathetic member(s) of staff will be liable for their conduct. These conduct expectations apply regardless of the demeanor of the issue or non-staff person(s) involved in the interaction.

Staff members are expected to keep interactions with community members age and maturity appropriate. U.S. legal code, standards, and precedent with regard to adult and minor - under the age of 18 - interactions will be used as an objective baseline. Above this, staff are expected to keep interactions with community members related to the network or happenings on the network. Discussing matters of personal life with users where a significant age or maturity difference is strictly prohibited. Prohibited matters of personal life include address; ip address; institutionally issued identification information; personally identifying information beyond preferred name and pronouns; offline activities; online activities outside of the network; and any matters of familial, platonic, romantic, or sexual relations. This list is not exhaustive and out of an abundance of caution, members of staff are expected to ask administrators for clarification on the appropriateness of subject matters when any ambiguity arises.

In the event of immediate danger to a member of the community, members of staff are authorized to communicate with users over prohibited topics, though these interactions should be immediately disclosed to all members of staff ranking at least administrator. The administration team should make an effort to disclose as much information and possible to the entire staff team regarding the situation. Events of immediate danger include domestic violence, general violence, cyberbullying, bullying, and threats to mental health. In these interactions staff are expected to adhere as closely as is possible to the conduct guidelines. In these interactions staff are expected to act in good faith towards the health and safety of the afflicted community member(s) as is within the scope of their authority granted by this document.

Access Rights

Staff Communications
All information pertaining to the PeacefulCraft Network which may be discussed by staff members is expected to remain confidential unless otherwise stated. This includes voice, video, image, file, and text communications. Disclosing any communications made by members of staff which pertain to the network is a violation of the terms of this document and will be handled with accordance to the
termination section of this document.

Staff Commands

Granted commands are to be used only for carrying out designated responsibilities within expectation guidelines.  Commands shall not be used to provide kickbacks or perks to non-staff users. Commands shall not be used for anything beyond the executing the responsibilities designated to that rank. Violation of this clause will result in immediate suspension, pending demotion.

Infrastructure Access

Infrastructure access refers to access of the game server web panel, the database web panel, any of the databases, any of the underlying servers, the VPN, the website, any server listings, and any of the social media accounts. Sharing of credentials, even with other staff members, is strictly prohibited, unless a systems staffer has explicitly approved the transfer. All credentials are to be stored in a secure manner. Any suspected compromise of an infrastructure account should be reported to an administrator with the authority to rotate the compromised credential(s) immediately. Mismanagement of credentials is grounds for revocation of access, as well as suspension and possible revocation of rank.

Infrastructure Usage

Network accounts and resources are to be used solely for network services and features. Any usage beyond the scope of PeacefulCraft must be explicitly approved by the Senior Administrator ahead of time. For providing services outside of the scope of organization operators, a clear scope of requests is required, including grounds for termination and anticipated end of hosting date. Before the service can be deployed an Administrator familiar with the technical details of the given installation must review and supervise the installation, regular maintenance, and general health of that service insofar as it impacts the operations of PeacefulCraft Network offerings.

Data

All data hosted on or within infrastructure services and accounts is to be handled with equal prudence to credentials. Only the Senior Administrator is allowed to authorize the disclosure of data. This includes, but is not limited to game data, configuration settings, ip addresses, connection information, firewall settings, and credentials.

Best Practices

All infrastructure accounts and services are to be implemented and maintained following industry standard security and stability practices.

Any violation of infrastructure usage policies is grounds for suspension, pending termination..

Hiring

Procedure

The Senior Administrator may opt to open or close the application process at any time. The total number of staff at any given role will be set at whatever the Senior Administrator deems necessary. The Senior Administrator has final say on staff appointments.

Termination

Investigation

An investigation into misconduct reports must be conducted by an impartial staffer, usually the Senior Administrator, before termination proceedings may begin. Should the circumstances deem it necessary, a staff member under investigation may have access rights suspended, but not for more than a period of one month. Any attempt to circumvent or obstruct this investigation will be seen as the actions of a guilty party. A conclusive investigation must produce tangible evidence to support a termination ruling. The offending staffer must be presented with all evidence and decision logic which led to their termination, so long as disclosure of such information does not compromise sources of the investigation. If a source would be compromised, only the related evidence may be withheld if it can not be sufficiently anonymized. Any non-compromising evidence must be disclosed.

An inconclusive investigation rules in the favor of the staff member. That number of inconclusive investigations surrounding a given staff member may be taken into consideration during investigations.

The Senior Administrator has final say in all staff termination discussions. The Senior Administrator’s standing on a matter must either be in favor of, against, or uncommitted. Whichever position holds a plurality will carry the decision.

Termination Procedure

Any suspension, demotion, or termination of a staff member must be documented and communicated to all network staff and users. The offending staff member will have all access rights suspended immediately.

Resignation

Procedure

Network staff are permitted to resign at any time, though it is asked that reasonable notice be given so that training, project, and volunteer recruiting preparations can be made. The resigning staffer must inform the Senior Administrator of their intent to resign, though they are not required to disclose the reason for their resignation.
