Objective Great writers rehearse for writing by trying out several leads.

In Class

Students will look at examples of memorable leads to identify the strategy the author used. Students will draft two memorable leads about their new seed idea.

Objective: Great writers use a checklist to edit their paper.

In Class: Students will use their homework from last Thursday to edit their paper for spelling, punctuation, inner thinking (in italics), quotations in separate paragraphs for different speakers, and sentence structure.

In Class: Students will discuss similes, metaphors, and hyperboles. Students will complete a reading comprehension activity about the origins of Halloween.  Students will write a personal narrative about their favorite Halloween memory.

In Class: Session 15--Students will look at several examples of powerful endings from Everything Will be Okay, Scout’s Honor, House on Mango Street, and my personal narrative. They will work on drafting their own powerful, memorable ending.
