Honors Biology Curriculum at a Glance

Honors Biology is intended for students who have a special interest in science, have interest in a career that is science or health based, and a desire to cover topics in more depth than the standards require.  This class will cover information required by the Nebraska College and Career Ready Standards for Science and expand the breadth and depth of these topics.

Biology is the study of living things and how these living things interact with their environment.  We will begin with the science process, plants and the chemical basis of life first quarter. Second quarter we continue with the chemistry of life, viruses and bacteria, protists and fungi. Third quarter we dig into prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, cell cycle, genetics, and micro or cellular and organismal evolution. We finish the school year with human body processes, our Earth week activities and project and ecology. The class is designed to allow students the opportunity to appreciate biology around them.  Many labs will be used along with chapter projects to create items for students’ portfolios.
