Onkar Nath Banerjee, Head of the Department of Chemistry, Malda College, and Jagannath Basak, the Malda-based distinguished Social Activist, donated two oxygen cylinders to the "Aro Manobik" unit of Malda College. On 4th August, Mr. Banerjee and Mr. Basak had handed over the oxygen cylinders to the Principal of College, Dr. Manas Kumar Baidya. Recently, when India was going through the second wave of Covid Pandemic, the crisis of life saving oxygen cylinder emerged throughout the nation. During this time, when Mr. Banerjee and his family members were also infected by Covid-19, Malda College's "Aro Manobik" was able to provide one oxygen cylinder to Mr. Banerjee's family. Nonetheless, Mr. Banerjee experienced the desperate need of keeping oxygen cylinders in stock during this tough time. Mr. Banerjee said that he decided to donate an oxygen cylinder wishing that no stakeholder of Malda College might face the scarcity of oxygen cylinder in the time of emergency. Mr. Basak commented that he had seen the humanitarian side of Malda College in the time of covid induced crisis. Mr. Basak conveyed his sincere gratitude to Malda College's Aro Manobik unit for their incessant services to the people of Malda during the second wave of Covid including providing regular foods to the infected families.
Malda College is grateful to Mr. Banerjee and Mr. Basak for their contributions.

Research is a desirable attribute of a higher academic institution. However, in India, public academic institutions with limited budget and scope could not extend research opportunities to its students and teachers. In a globalised world, the role of research in an academic institution is significant for its sustainability and development, and it is imperative to have knowledge-driven growth based on innovation. The quest for knowledge is the basic principle behind research. To explore the research possibilities and prospects in colleges, Malda College Research and Consultancy Cell had organized a State Level Webinar on "Research in College Campus: Prospects and Opportunities" where Sri Amiya Kumar Kalidaha, Senior Scientific Officer, Govt. of West Bengal, Department of Science & Technology and Biotechnology (Salt Lake City, Kolkata: 700064) was present as the esteemed resource person.

The College had remained closed for more than one and half years. The classrooms, which were supposed to reflect the vibrancy of the students, resounded hollowness. However, amidst this grave crisis, the teachers of Malda College had been constantly putting their efforts to support the students academically, mentally, or otherwise. The teachers of this college had taken innumerable online classes to complete the curriculum. They had contributed to build the funds for "Aro Manobik" and shown their humanitarian side by helping the needy ones in the time of crisis caused by Covid-19's kathal second wave in India. Hence, several requests had been made on the part of the students for the celebration of Teacher's Day so that they might get an opportunity to thank their respected teachers for being with them by all means. Therefore, to keep the requests of the students and to maintain the College's age-old tradition, Teacher's Council had organized an online programme, "Shikkhok Samman" on 5th September, 2021, through Google Meet and YouTube Live.
The Teachers' Council of Malda College took this opportunity to invite and (virtually) connect with the retired teachers of Malda College.

Malda College started it's glorious journey in 1944. The person who took the major initiative behind establishing this college was Mr. Durga Kinkar Bhattacharyya (1914-1999). Mr. Bhattacharyya experienced the necessity of building one higher educational institute and put great efforts to acquire permission from the British Government to establish this college in Malda. The foundation of the institute was laid by him with the sole vision of providing quality education to students coming from varied socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. Mr. Bhattacharyya, the first Principal of Malda College, had dedicated his life to improve the college's academic and infrastructural faculties. To celebrate the 108th birth anniversary of this great founder-father of Malda College, the teachers and staff gathered in from Mr. Durga Kinkar Bhattacharyya's statue (situated within the college precinct) in the morning of 5th October, 2021. The Principal, Dr. Manas Kumar Baidya, conveyed his respect with a garland and a brief speech. Mr. Onkarnath Bhattacharya, the Head of the Department of Chemistry, and an ex-student of Malda College, delivered an impassionate speech cherishing the memory of his teacher, Mr. Bhattacharyya.

Malda College reopened on Tuesday, 2nd November, 2021— after a gap of close to two years forced by the COVID-19 pandemic. The last time students attended classes physically was in March 2020. A large poster was placed at the main gate with the inscription, "Welcome Back to College". The entire college campus was properly sanitized before 2nd November. Several signage boards regarding the safety precautions for Corona infection had been placed all over the campus. Prior to the re-opening of the college, a notice was issued clarifying that no student/staff would be allowed to enter the college precinct without a face cover/mask, and individuals with high temperature would also not be allowed as well. To avoid the risk of transmission, arrangements were made at the gate to check the temperature of the students and staff with a digital thermometer, and to sanitize them properly. To maintain the social distancing and other safety measures, as per the decision of the authority, the college's working hours had been divided into two segments- the-morning shift (for BA, B.Com, and B.Sc General students), and day shift (for BA, B.Com and B.ScHonours students, and Postgraduate students). Furthermore, online classes and offline classes were decided to be continued parallelly.

With the auspicious desire to serve the people in need throughout the year, Aro Manobik had built a community outreach centre just beside the main gate (so that it can be easily visible to the pedestrians). Here, any compassionate person can donate his/her unused old clothes, blankets, covers etc, and anybody in need can take away anything from here without any hindrance.
