These wikis have failed.
When I first joined the wikis back in 2017, I saw a wiki network that cared. Admins such as Masson Thief, Grust, Grand Albert, and Unnamedgoon were great people, with great knowledge on various types of media and despite their flaws, weren't that bad.
Like I said, that was 2017. None of these admins are on the wikis anymore, and the current admins (none of whom will be named to avoid causing further drama) have failed to maintain a non-toxic environment, for various reasons; even Grust (the founder) has made a blog on The New Reception Wiki showing why they suck now and that he now regrets his own creation.
Why They Suck Now
- They ban innocent users such as Inkster and Eiji for stupid reasons (Inkster for his fetishes, and Eiji for something he regrets doing; that's rich for a wiki group that claims to be against cancel culture). They also stalk said users everywhere they go (in one instance, the current leader of these wikis said “Hey…” to Inkster on the Cutting Room Floor’s Discord server).
- They refuse to take criticism (which is ironic for wikis that give criticism to works).
- They boast some ridiculously hot takes such as putting the widely-received (by both critics and audiences) Lion King sequels on Awful Movies Wiki, as well as Pokémon Sword and Shield on Crappy Games Wiki, using “just because it's well-received doesn't mean it's actually good” as an excuse.
- There is more, they said that Tom MacDonald (the rapper) is a SJW and glorified PC Culture, even though his rapping takes jabs against woke culture and the far-left.
- They also put random shows in the negative wikis all because users there simply didn’t like them.
- The pages in general are extremely unprofessional, poorly done and in shambles, often made in bad faith and with malicious intent.
- Oftentimes, pages can have up to 5 or 10 poorly-made or repetitive reasons, some of which are often simply rehashed.
- Trivias are often extremely redundant.
- Formats and templates see limited use that make most other wikis look professional in comparison.
- In conclusion, these wikis are honestly just bare-bones and extremely lazily-made.
- Categories are poorly managed, with many pages being in the wrong categories or not even in any or a few categories at all. Quality control is almost nonexistent in these wikis.
- They fall for the most obvious of trolls, such as r/fuckhomescapes which is a joke subreddit wholly dedicated to making fun of Playrix’s terrible mobile game advertisements which are extremely misleading.
- Another moment of hypocrisy: They claim to hate misleading advertisements and corporate corruption and gave Playrix a page on Crappy Games Wiki, yet defended it from that subreddit.
- They also claim to respect opinions, but one user bashed SporeShroom2007 for disliking The Incredibles, as well as Eiji for disliking James Cameron’s Titanic. Another user thinks only his personal opinions matter, and nobody else's, using the “doesn't mean it's actually good” logic to justify it. If you don't think something’s good and are in the minority, please don't disrespect opinions.
- What's more, they shaft any criticisms to the Outcast Network, even when it applies to them, and brand users no longer on their good side such as Portrock as “Outcast users”, even if their tenure on the wikis predated the Outcast Network and even when they regret it.
- While they do acknowledge their reputation, they only pretend to do so and do nothing to fix that.
- They have twisted the definition of SJW to include right-wing groups such as One Million Moms on Rotten Websites Wiki (which I had to remove).
- They are also ridiculously hypocritical. For example, some pages rely on TheQuartering, who has a page on Crappy Games Wiki. Also, there is a “disrespecting the dead” page on Rotten Websites Wiki, but there are dead people listed on the Celebtards page. Keep in mind, the former page has the pointer “it's still an unacceptable move when used on people that did have flaws, because any sort of disrespect to the deceased counts as discrimination”. How rich.
- Finally, they have made Miraheze as a whole look bad. Some of these wikis’ detractors refer to them as simply “Miraheze” rather than “the Reception Wikis”. In fact, these wikis are why there was pushback to the Closing Logos Group Wiki moving over to Miraheze.
- The wikis in general are a massive hotbet for toxic users in general. Due to their easy-to-make and convenient nature, it is a prime target for rogue/outlaw users looking to force their opinions as facts onto others. Outcast Network or not, both wikis will always suffer from the same problem.
- Clashing ideas and opinions between them often leads to massive fights in the user base. Many of the massive dramas that occurred were simply because of them.
- In all honesty, the wikis are mostly extremely poorly-made and despite being on Miraheze for nearly 3 years, have only seemed to stay the same or even get worse, being notoriously underdeveloped and messy.
Yes, I know I’m burning bridges. But, frankly, those bridges were made of plywood. They can ban me for all I care. They can even brand me an Outcast user just for making a point. But I have opened my eyes, something no still-loyal users here know how to do.
In conclusion, the wikis have got to go. They have gone so low since the Eiji fiasco, and can't even hope to become a reliable resource for opinions on media as they claim to be. But that move requires a conscience, which none of the current admins have.
Good luck.
