EPISODE 1: THE SPARK OF LIFE: Eccentricity isn’t Odd - It’s LIFE!

Airing on July 8, 2021 11 am PDT

If you don’t believe me, just look in the mirror. Or better yet, look in mine! I’ll share observations from the creative trenches where characters and emerging technologies dance. Then we will go total Q&A. If you’re in the mood, come ready to turn on your camera and mic. If you’d rather be an unkempt pajama-wearing voyeur, that’s fine too. After all, eccentricity isn’t odd – it’s life!

HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT Episode 1

Assignment: Visit "Off Camera", with Sam Jones either on Netflix (3 seasons) or at his website (12 seasons). Pick any two guests that you find interesting, then watch both of their complete interviews. Promos, or highlights don't give you all the "lived in" moments. Full episodes do. Look for key "Spikes of Difference" between how each person behaves and average behavior - those flashes of eccentricity that tell you they are beyond archetype, and are one-of-a-kind. You may notice -

And more!

Find at least one thing you find unique about each person. What is their own Spike of Difference from the average? Then compare the two people directly - are they of the same archetype, but still prove their oneness? Are they wildly different from each other from the start, and their oneness only emphasizes the difference?

Make a few notes or sketches or frame grabs to remind you of the things you've noticed.

At the start of the next live session, I'd love to hear from anyone who participated in this activity. The idea is to coax us into being better observers in general. We should be scanning the world around us for the detailed eccentric proof of individual life, and use it in our work to create the Spark of Life.

A valuable resource for anyone seeking to observe the spikes of difference that set each human being apart from all others. The eccentricity that makes each of us truly one-of-a-kind.

The rough storyboards show how filmmaking does not always have to be a dialog vs pantomime choice. Sometimes it’s a dialog PLUS pantomime choice, with each giving you a different story layer. It this case I had -

Behavior is a key to the Spark of Life.

"The Illusion of Life: Disney Animation" by Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston

From two of Walt Disney's renowned "Nine Old Men", who helped pioneer a way of animating that convinced you the characters on the screen had thoughts, feelings and individual personalities.

EPISODE 2: THE SPARK OF LIFE: Immersive Emotions

Airing: August 5, 2021 11 am PDT

Lessons from M.I.T., from Dubai, from Willy, from Madame Mediocre and her tarantula assistant Fernando.

Connecting with characters and with each other is about to become much more immediate, powerful and global. Authoring and presenting in this new space with empathy, honesty and ethics is key – but not a given. Unethical authors will have access to the same powerful tools.

EPISODE 3: THE SPARK OF LIFE: Don’t Escape Reality, EXPAND Reality!

Airing: August 19, 2021 11 am PDT

I’ll relate a short story in which Reality, Virtual Reality, and Augmented Reality become Blended Reality to bring a family together. I’ll talk Blended Reality as Real Estate Expander, along with AI Characters who can travel from a physical state to a virtual state and back again during one continuous experience. I’ll talk Escape Rooms that need you there physically, and need your friends there virtually in order for you all to succeed. This is Reality+
