Hanakēhau Learning Farm

Join us for the first workday and workshop of the new year! Come learn about the invasive Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle (CRB)’s threat to our primary cultural food crops (niu, mai‘a, ‘ulu, kalo) and what you can do to help stop the CRB from spreading in Hawai‘i before it’s too late!

A Hawaii State Dept of Agriculture CRB Response Crew member will in teaching us to:

-Identify CRB damage to trees

-Locate & Identify CRB larvae

-Minimize habitat for CRB


Hanakēhau Learning farm is a grassroots ‘ohana dedicated to reclaiming and providing cultural space for our lāhui to learn and engage in Hawaiian traditions and practices.  We chose to call ourselves

Directions to Hanakēhau

  1. Head to Leeward Community College in Pearl City
  2. When you cross the Waiawa Bridge over the H1 Freeway, you’ll reach a stop sign. You must either turn right at the stop sign (to LCC) or left. TURN LEFT.
  3. Follow the road to the cul-de-sac and turn right onto Waiawa Road (a gravel/dirt road)
  4. Follow the road past a few houses until you see a left turn at a tree with a mailbox labeled “Young”. Turn left.
  5. Follow the road down and through an open yellow iron gate. Just before you reach the Pearl City Bike Path, you’ll see a tall metal gate on your left. Drive in and park.

*Please be prepared for rain or sun. Bring your shoes, boots, water bottles & jackets!
