LGBTQ+ Club

As you know, See Something Say Something week took place two weeks ago on February 25th. During that week, fourteen members of the LGBTQ+ Club conducted a study of 5 school days (February 27th--March 5th) on how many homophobic slurs they heard on campus. The total was an astonishing 168 times. This ranged from “That’s so gay”, “Dyke”, to other homophobic slurs. Some were even heard in Spanish. More than half of these instances were in the classroom, while others were heard in public spaces or in the vicinity of our members. We find this unacceptable and we will be working with school administrators and Wellness Center representatives to try and come up with a solution to make ACHS a safer space for everybody. Do your part and speak up and think before you speak hate, you may hurt someone you love.

Closed campus

For student safety reasons, the ACHS campus remains closed during lunch. Please note that a closed campus means that no students are able to leave campus or go to their cars during lunch. Students are to bring everything they need for class with them in the morning when they arrive to school. Students are also not permitted to leave class to retrieve any food deliveries. In order to ensure student safety, these policies will be strictly enforced.

Students - please remember to park in the Student Parking Lot and not in the visitor/staff parking lot. We appreciate your cooperation :-)

MLK Day, Jr. Day of Service is on January 21st

MLK Day of Service is the only federal holiday observed as a national day of service – “a day on, not a day off." It is a way to transform Dr. King’s life and teachings into community action to help address critical social problems. This year, CVNL is celebrating MLK Day of Service in Napa as part of the MLK Celebration of Compassion and Inspired Action Coalition.

POST A PROJECT AS A NONPROFIT: If you have projects you would like to add to the current calendar, contact Jim Tomlinson: jtomlinson@cvnl.org or 707.252.6222. You can also check out our website to post your opportunities!

VOLUNTEER ON MONDAY: Visit the calendar and sign up as an individual to participate in any of the events listed — invite your friends, colleagues, and family to join you. Use hashtag #MLKDay to share your stories! Highlights include:

Gardening - Donaldson Way Elementary

Monday, January 21, 2019, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Spend an hour (or more) helping to spruce up the beautiful Donaldson Way Garden.

Connolly Ranch Invasive Plant Removal

Monday, January 21, 2019, 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

The Napa Youth Stewardship Council will lead volunteers in identifying and removing invasive plant species throughout the oak woodlands and grassland areas of the Connolly Ranch property.

Tote Bags for the Food Bank

Monday, January 21, 2019, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Make cool reusable tote bags from T-Shirts to donate to Food Bank clients.

Love Card Art Project

Monday, January 21, 2019, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Contribute to spreading love, kindness and compassion in our beloved community by creating and passing love cards along, especially to people who may be strangers or very different from yourself.
