Scope and Sequence

Unit 1: Science Practices and Concepts

Unit Context: This is an introduction to science and engineering practices.  Students will design solutions using appropriate tools and models.

Standards: 1A, *1B, 1C, *1G, 3A, *3B, 3C

Unit 2: Structure and Properties of Matter

Unit Context: This unit introduces basic atomic structure and how the subatomic particles interact.

Standards: *1B, 1C, 1D, 1E, *1G, 1H, *3B, 7A, 7B, *7C, 7D, 7E, *7F,

Unit 3: Changes in Matter

Unit Context: This unit has two separate focuses.  One focus introduces models to explain how conservation of mass can be observed in laboratory activities.  The second focus is on the environmental impacts of chemical and nuclear reactions.

Standards: *1B, 1D, 1E, 1F, *1G, 3A, *3B, 3C, 4B, *8A, 8B, 8C, *8D

Unit 4: Force and Motion

Unit Context: This unit introduces the relationship between force and motion and how forces can be observed in everyday life.

Standards: 1A, *1B, *1G, 2B, 2C, 2D, 3A, *3B, 4A, *5A, 5B, *5C, 5D, 5E
