Board Meeting Summary
September 13, 2021
The Trion Board of Education met in the regular monthly meeting on Monday, September 13, 2021. The meeting was held in the Board Room of the Board of Education office located at 239 Simmons Street, Trion, Georgia.
Present for the meeting were: Dr. Phil Williams, Superintendent, Vice Kari Brown, Members Johnny Brimer, Jeff Maddux, and Darriel Broome. Also in attendance were Howard Hughes and Mandy Taylor.

Other Business
The board received the Bulldog Athletic Club and Band Booster financial reports as information items. The BAC reports $ 48,064.66 as the closing balance. The band booster club reports a balance of $ 10,013.55 with $2,829.10 in savings.
Student Enrollment report was submitted as an information item. As of September 13, 2021, the student population is reported at 1,352 with breakdown as follows: TES - 681; TMS - 290; THS – 381.

Superintendent Report
The following fund raisers were approved: TES/TMS Counselor Christy Brown was approved to sell Trion blankets to raise funds for the counseling program. The Cross Country team was also approved to sell Salsa with proceeds going toward the team. Girls/Boys Soccer team approved to sell chicken biscuits with proceeds benefiting the soccer team.
Dr. Williams discussed the Covid protocols and the great job the custodians and teachers are doing to keep the buildings clean and sanitized. Lamar Turner’s leadership over the custodian crew was complimented by Dr. Williams and the board members. Dr. Williams said our positive Covid numbers are up from last year, but the curve seems to be flattening.
Dr. Williams updated the board with the progress on the wrestling building. He explained that receiving materials was taking much longer than expected. He believes the outside work on the building will be completed within two weeks. Once completed, the electrical work would begin soon after.
The next board meeting will be held Monday, October 18, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. in the board room.
