HPHS Dia de los Muertos Chess Tournament

Saturday, November 1st, 2025 - Highland Park High School - 433 Vine Ave, Highland Park, IL

This tournament satisfies the IHSA requirement for a team tournament and will follow all IHSA and IESA Chess rules.

Format:        HS Varsity Team Section (8-board, 4 rounds, G55;d5 - limit 1 Varsity Team per school, TD may allow one “b-team” to balance the section)

HS JV Team Section (5-board, 4 rounds, G55;d5 - unlimited JV teams per school)

HS Individual Open Section (4 rounds, G55;d5)

Time:                Check-in:        7:30am to 8:30am

HS Sections:        R1-9:00a, R2-11:30a, R3-2:00p, R4-4:30p

                                Awards:        As soon as possible after final rounds, 7:00pm anticipated

Awards:        Top 4 Varsity Teams earn trophies

Top 3 JV Teams earn trophies

Top 5 players in the Individual Open Section earn medals

Entry fee:        $120 per varsity team, $75 per JV team,  $12 per Ind Open player. Max $200 per school.

Elementary Sections

Elementary fee is $10 per player, register here - https://forms.gle/4FYFnUcxHzxnDLHh6

• Check-In 8:15-8:30am / Tournament Introduction at 8:45am
• Round 1 at 9:00am / Each round begins ASAP after the previous round
• 3 Sections:

• Beginner - New to competitive chess
• Intermediate - Experienced, but still new to the game
• Advanced - Serious player, might have a USCF rating

• Awards will be presented after the final round of the Elementary Section competition.
