Dear SHES Middle School Parents/Guardians,

This year, our Sacred Heart Elementary Middle School Science Fair will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2023.  All  sixth, seventh, and eighth graders will participate in the school fair.  I have given each student a timeline for their work on Google Classroom and will grade things as their work progresses. All due dates, templates, and rubrics will be posted on both Google Classroom and the SHE Middle School website.  Here are important due dates for the project.

10/27 - Submit Science Fair idea

11/4 - Submit Informal Proposal

11/11 - Submit Formal Proposal

12/19 - Science Fair Notebook Due

2/7 - Bring in completed trifold board

Additionally, I will be selecting  students from the middle level  to represent our school in the Pittsburgh Regional Science and Engineering Fair at Carnegie Science Center.  Only the students who are truly devoted to his/her topic and show that he/she is willing to go the extra mile will be selected to participate in the PRSEF.  I understand that not all students have the most interest in Science; however, I know they all have the potential to shine through this project, so I am excited to see what fantastic projects they choose to demonstrate this year.

I read the note and timeline for the SHES Science Fair and will encourage my student to explore the world of science by assisting with rides to the library, offering suggestions when asked, and allowing him/her to conduct safe experiments at home.  I will not take over the project or do it myself because my child deserves to experience an “AH HA'' moment of his/her own.
