Studio Location: Woodworking Studio

 

Class Description:

Create beautiful and functional wooden kitchen utensils using local hardwoods and simple traditional hand tools. Possibilities include spoons, spatulas, salad servers, and ladles - pieces to adorn your own kitchen or to give as gifts that will be used and treasured for years. Explore the finer points of design, wood choices, working with the grain, tools, techniques, sharpening, and finishing. Class will use green and seasoned woods such as cherry, apple, pear, butternut, birch, and maple. No experience needed; give wood carving a try and the new skills may open up a new world. No supply fee; an instructor kit fee of $25 is payable during the class.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: to help prevent the spread of COVID-19

In order to promote a safe and healthy environment for all of our guests, individuals who are not fully vaccinated will be required to bring 2 to 3 face masks that cover mouth and nose to be worn when in the studios or any other indoor space (other than dorm rooms) or outdoors when 6’ of distance cannot be maintained.

Supply Information:

Your workshop includes a kit that will be provided by the instructor, including 4 spoon blanks and 4 pieces of wood for designing spoons, plus basic consumables .

Please bring a check for $25.00 made out to your instructor, to be collected at the first class meeting.

Open Studio Guidelines for the Woodworking Studio:

Instructors in woodworking will outline safety guidelines for students who are staying to work during open studio. The table saw is never to be used without the instructor present.  The use of all other power tools and equipment is limited and is at the discretion of your instructor. Please read the following guidelines as you plan to make use of your open studio time:
