NOTICE to 8th Grade Students/Families Visiting Our Website

Application period for all JCPS schools ends Dec 19. Go to the JCPS website > Parents > APPLYING TO SCHOOLS and follow directions.

Atherton application has been updated so be sure the application and teacher references state “2019”.

Take your time and provide your best effort on all parts of the Atherton application. This process is very competitive and your response to any part of this application may be the determining factor in your acceptance. Applications will not be reviewed prior to January so rushing to return an application will not improve your consideration.

Due to limited capacity:

• Atherton cannot consider any requests for applications if Atherton is not listed as a first choice school. If you do not list Atherton as a first choice school, determine another school as your next-best second choice; do not list Atherton as a second choice.
• You must apply for Atherton using the magnet code 018MGA; Atherton will not have space to consider applicants under any other program.

All documents need to be returned in a single envelope to Atherton by January 15.

Atherton Student Wifi

Is your child having connectivity problems? The most frequent issue with students unable to connect to the internet is not registering their device. Tell students to go here from their phone to register their device.

Directions: Click on your device’s WiFi icon and connect to JCPSwireless (not JCPSGuest) • Open a new browser window • Go to 10.254.233.40 The login page will open • Enter your JCPS username and password
NOTE: If your device has been previously registered you will receive an error message when trying to access the Device Registration Center site.

ACT ACADEMY

Atherton is highly recommending a new opportunity to get your ACT score as high as possible for college entrance and scholarships.

There is now a  free, online program provided directly by ACT. We recommend you commit at least one hour per week from now until you take the ACT. This is a score that has a significant on your college admissions, scholarships and course placement in college.

ACT ACADEMY DIRECTIONS

1. Go to the Atherton library website and click on the direct ACT Academy link. Or go to https://academy.act.org

1. Click on “I am a Student.”

1. When asked “Did your teacher give you a username and password?” Click NO

1. Enter your EMAIL. Please use your JCPS STUDENT EMAIL. That will be easier to remember, and your teachers can help you retrieve it.

1. Enter a PASSWORD. Make it a password you can easily remember, like your middle name@your birth year.

1. There is NO CLASS CODE for you to enter.

1. DO NOT sign in with google.

1. Click the box toward the bottom that says “I’m here to practice for the ACT.”

1. Enter your name and your school.

1. It should say- you have now joined My ACT Prep.

1. Start by taking one of the quizzes!

Freshmen Parent Volunteers

Class of 2022 Parents and Guardians we are asking for your help. Getting our students out into the community is a major piece to the success of the new academies at Atherton. For these excursions (field trips) we need volunteers and lots of them. If you would be interested in volunteering as a chaperone please email Ms. Walker, Atherton Academy Coach, at jennifer.walker@jefferson.kyschools.us with the reference line "chaperone" and your name, email, phone, and student name.

Car Riders

Thank you to everyone for following our Car Rider Procedures helping make morning drop offs flow so smoothly. The student parking lot, designated as the "Emerson Entrance", is the official and safety place to drop students off and pick them up.

Some helpful hints-

AM: If you normally drop off around 7:30am, you are allowed to drop off directly in front of the building.

PM: If you wait to pick up your child until about 2:27, the safety barriers that are used to keep the mass of exiting students safe are removed and you can pull directly up the same location as morning drop off.

Student Handbook & Dress Code

All students will receive the Atherton Student Handbook which is also a daily agenda planner as well as the JCPS Student Support & Behavior Intervention Handbook (formerly known as the JCPS Code of Conduct). Please take time to review this important handbooks with your child. Parents, we love to encourage students to express themselves appropriately through their expression including with their attire. As an institute of education, we do have some reasonable expectations that have been established by our Site-Based Decision Making Council for many years. Please review these expectations and encourage your child to be respectful of these rules. Students will now begin to receive progressive-levels of discipline for repeated violations.
