Tour de Ladd wrap up, given by Hanna Nesper Newell—positive feedback still collecting donations
Mini Grants—Mark Lawson passed out applications and gave an overview.
Teachers, parents, anyone from Abernethy community can apply for a grant. Communication went out in last Monday mailer.
Hanna stated—“even if you think it’s a pie in the sky idea, please complete an application so we can begin to prioritize all ideas. “

Ericka Morgan reviewed summary of changes to standing rules, Beth Cavanaugh motioned to pass—majority vote in favor, new Standing Rules passed.
Scott Bailey from school board came to discuss levy
- presented the history of funding cuts to PPS
- for every dollar that goes into school funding from tax dollars 75% goes to schools.
- In 2000 passed first local option levy to raise property taxes for school funding
- all of the levy money goes straight into the classroom—supporting roughly 1 out of 3 teachers in the district.
- Independent budget review committee is the watchdog of this budget
- Renew the core from property taxes plus new money receiving from state it will have a significant impact on students in PPS.
- Fed used to cover 18% of SPED, now it is 11% this is another squeeze on PPS
- Operating budget 60% goes to classroom, 22% administrative and curriculum development, 14% buses and maintenance, and 6% central office—we are a pretty lean district that our central office.
- What’s our elevator speech—it goes to 825 teachers for 5 years. Same tax rate and accountability built in. No increase just continuing what is already being taxed.
- Have we taken a position to endorse? We need to post that we are voting before we take an official community vote.
- Advocacy budget—can we utilize this for the campaign?
- If all goes to plan when will Cleveland be slated for a reno? Sometime in the next decade?
- Concerns about earthquake safety. Only 10 schools will be up to building standards, still have 70 to go…
