Things to Keep in Mind

  1. SCAM WARNING: Never pay to apply for a scholarship. If you are asked to pay fees to apply for a scholarship, this is likely the start of scam. If you're not sure, contact the Study Abroad Office, or you may wish to speak with a Financial Aid Advisor.
  2. PLAN EARLY: Preparing applications may take time and work. Many require an essay, a photo submission, or a proposal for a study abroad related activity or service project. It's therefore important to consider the application deadlines and plan accordingly.
  1. ELIGIBILITY: Check the guidelines for each scholarship before you begin applying. In many cases, you do not need to have been accepted into your study abroad program when applying for the scholarship.
  2. RECOMMENDATIONS: Some applications may require a recommendation letter. If so, consider an academic professional such as a professor or academic advisor who can speak to your academic caliber, character when facing new and unexpected situations, and importance of study abroad on your personal growth, academic pursuits, and future goals.
  3. AWARDS: Study abroad scholarships come in large and small packages, but even applying to small ones (for example 5 scholarships that are $500 each) can potentially lead to large rewards ($2500 in the example)
