Required Materials

Technology:

This course was not designed to be taken on a smartphone, tablet, or other mobile device. While you may access content on these devices, certain activities and assignments may not be supported.

Printed Material:

Throughout the course, you will find printable documents, some of which are required. We encourage you to print the required pages listed below in advance so that you have them when you need them.

Required Print Material:

The pages in this Optional Print Packet (download and print, if desired; 46 pages, B&W) are included throughout your course for on-screen activities and optional challenges. If you have convenient printer access, we recommend downloading and printing as you go since you likely will not use all pages. However, we provide the packet so you have the option to print in advance.

This course was not designed to be taken on a smartphone, tablet, or other mobile device. While you may access content on these devices, certain applications and assignments may not be supported.

Recommended Browsers:

Your device and browser MUST support webGL and websocket connections, in addition to other compatibility standards. WebGL enables working in 3D in the browser. If your device was purchased after 2015 and you are using a current web browser, webGL should be supported.

The requirements above will cover all applications used in the course. The sections below contain recommendations specific to individual applications.


Tinkercad

Recommended Devices & Operating Systems:

Assignments in this course were not designed for completion on mobile devices. Tinkercad mobile apps for iPad and Android are available but not recommended for this course.

Recommended Browsers:

Your device and browser MUST support webGL. WebGL enables working in 3D in the browser. You can test your device with webGL here: https://get.webgl.org/.

Create Your Free Personal Account:

  1. Go to: https://www.tinkercad.com/
  2. Click "Start Tinkering"
  3. Select "Create a personal account"
  4. Select your preferred method to sign in and follow the prompts - If you choose to sign-up with email, you will be required to create a password.
  5. Bookmark https://www.tinkercad.com/login for future access.

Onshape

Recommended Devices & Operating Systems:

Assignments in this course were not designed for completion on mobile devices. Onshape mobile apps for iOS and Android are available but not recommended for this course.


Onshape requires a strong, consistent Internet connection. Intermittent or low-bandwidth connections will require you to refresh your browser tab with each dropped connection.
 

Recommended Browsers:

Onshape requires webGL and a websocket connection. You can test your browser compatibility here: https://cad.onshape.com/check

Create a Free Grade School/K-12 Student Account:

  1. Go to: https://www.onshape.com/en/education/
  2. Click "For Students"
  3. Complete the registration form to create a Grade School / K-12 Edu Account - You will be required to verify the email address you use.
  4. Complete Step 2 of the registration form - Enter your school information, not CWRU.
  5. Verify your email address as directed to "Activate Your Account"
  6. Create a password when prompted
  7. When prompted, confirm that your default units are “Inch,” “Angle,” and “Pound,” all to three decimal places (“0.123”). You may also complete the rest of the guided setup. (Your units and other settings can be updated later in Preferences if needed.)
  8. Bookmark https://cad.onshape.com/signin for future access.
