Info About BLUU Worship
Black Lives of UU has been offering regular online worship services since September 2017. Online worship gives Black UU and UU-adjacent folks an opportunity to gather in an Explicitly Black sacred space, call on our ancestors, be moved by spiritually-embracing music of every genre, reflect on our Unitarian Universalism as Black people, pray, learn, and grow together. We also have a lot of fun! It’s a beautiful space full of amazing people where we hold the sorrows and struggles of Black life and spread the power of Black joy.
An online worship assistant will serve as the primary audio/visual technician for BLUU’s monthly services. They will be responsible for supporting the development of playlists on Spotify and YouTube, as well as moving through those playlists and other elements during worship by switching between various online platforms. Innovative thinking and creative problem-solving may be necessary for this ministry. Some comfort with navigating Zoom online video conferencing is important. An awareness of what it means to hold sacred space is critical. Experience with audio/visual equipment is not required, but will be a plus if there is also interest in supporting in-person worship gatherings.
The person/people in this volunteer ministry will work closely with BLUU’s Community Minister, Rev. Mykal Slack, and BLUU’s Worship Team to ensure that online sacred space, as unique and sometimes unwieldy a platform as it can be for transformative worship, is a seamless, heart-centered, and lively experience.
Orientation and training are required.
Two-four hours of assistance per service (including worship) are likely, beginning in September 2018.
