2017 Executive Committee
On behalf of the Executive Committee of 2017, we thank you for your continued support to the committee and the community at large.
Looking forward to a great 2018! In the meantime, enjoy the holidays with family and friends and safe travels!
Inside This Issue
As we draw this year to a close, I just wanted to share my experience and a deep sense of gratitude to the entire community.
Being in this position for the first time, it has truly been an enlightening experience with its various ups and downs. I, and the committee, have had the distinct honor and privilege to have had your continued support all throughout the year. It has been a humbling experience to see the community come together for all the various events that occurred in 2017.
This year saw several record breaking events. From the highest number of attendees at the Mahavir Jayanti program, the Father's Day picnic and Camp Lalit, to breaking new ground on receiving a record number of a Chaitya paripati group (from New Jersey) in the middle of the year. This is to just name a few, but none of this could have been possible without all the volunteers. We are a small community, but to have managed such big events can only be possible with all the dedicated help and contributions we receive throughout the year.
Speaking of contributions, to all those who contributed this year and every year, please accept our sincere thanks. Every year, the Mahavir Jayanti program is the biggest event of our community and needless to say, it requires the highest amount of contributions. But, I was pleasantly surprised that we covered all our costs, and then some, two whole months before the program started! Additionally, throughout the year, from the lunch sponsors to various other sponsoring to help the needy and for other good work, the contributions always continued to pour in, and for that we are truly grateful.
We are grateful too, to all the volunteers who pour in their very best every time something is asked of them (or sometimes not even asked!). To give your time, energy and all your effort for the community is truly a great deed. I still remember the big delays we had with the Chaitya Paripati group's arrival, and still every single volunteer smilingly welcomed them and served them food. And when we all worked together to make such big programs like Mahavir Jayanti, Camp Lalit and Father's Day Picnic successes in their own rights, I know, it just could not have been possible without you.
Lastly, I would like the thank the entire 2017 Executive Committee. Their dedication towards their duties, their passion towards always putting the good foot forward, and their team camaraderie in making decisions and working together was really amazing. I truly feel blessed to be part of such a team.
Some of the committee members, including me, have had our personal/work responsibilities grow to such an extent that it has become difficult to give our full attention to JSCNC, and hence we are momentarily stepping down. As such, there are 3 positions open as mentioned in the other section of this newsletter.
If you have been a member of JSCNC for at least 3 years, and are passionate about serving the community, please consider taking up one of these positions. I promise you, there is no greater feeling of accomplishment than having served in a community that you are part of, be in the position to make a difference, and distinguish yourselves as role models to the youth and rest of the community.
If during the course of the year, we hurt anyone's feelings, I, and on behalf of the Execute Committee, ask for your forgiveness. Michammi Dukkadam.

Pathshala Registration for Calendar Year 2018
One of the founding principles of Jain Study Center of NC is to serve our young kids to instill spiritual development, self-awareness and promote Jain identity in individuals. It is with this goal that we have established a twice-a-month Pathshala. The volunteer teachers pay special attention to the needs of young and older groups and have structured curriculum as such.
Pathshala registration has been extended to Monday December 11th, 2017.
JSCNC rents an after-school facility off Morrisville Pkwy., which charges a nominal rental fee for holding these Pathshalas. Based on this and a few other factors, the committee has calculated the Pathshala fees for 2018 to be $75 in total per child.
Please make the check payable to “JSCNC” and write your child(ren)’s name in the memo. For example, "Child1, Child2".
Every family whose children attend the Pathshala must do one of the following. Deadline to complete either option is Sunday Feb 18th, 2018.
Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated.
As we communicated before, we will be putting together an addendum for the 2016 JSCNC member directory that has been distributed this year. The deadline to submit changes has passed on Nov 12th, 2017.
We have received quite a few entries and are working on putting together a draft PDF document that will be first verified with those individuals who have submitted the updates/corrections. Once we get their confirmation, the document will be shared with the community via our distribution group.
Board of Directors Nominations
As we draw near the end of the year, we are looking to fill a few positions in the JSCNC BoD. The following positions are open for the 2018 year.
Please note that 2018 is the middle of the term year and hence the other positions will continue as-is. As per the constitution, a nominee must be a Center member in good standing for at least 3 calendar years to be eligible for any of the positions.
If you are interested in serving the community as a BOD member for any of the positions above, please contact Mr. Kamlesh Shah, BOD Advisor for JSCNC, at (919) 270-5111 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please note that nominations would be evaluated by the BOD as per the constitution guidelines and procedures, and will announce the new BOD officers and Committee roles for 2018 in Dec. 2017 meeting.
One of the difficult elements of being part of this community, however, is finding those leaders who are willing to lead from these official roles. If you are passionate about making a difference and giving back to the community, then please consider nominating yourself, or someone you know, to serve in one of the above positions. It can truly be a rewarding experience, not just from the point of view of contributing, but also to enhance your leadership skills.
General Body Meeting in December Monthly Meeting
Per the constitution, JSCNC should hold a General Body Meeting every year. This year, we are planning to consider the JSCNC Monthly Meeting day (Dec. 17th) to be that day. If you have any questions, concerns or constructive criticisms, please send an email to Bhairav Shah (email@example.com) so we can try to address it at the meeting and/or pass them to next year's committee.

Food served during monthly meetings and special events has played a vital role in building our community over the years. It has enabled us to spend quality time to learn Jainism and socialize with other fellow Jains without having to worry about our usual lunch/dinner planning that day. In fact it has also served as an incentive to come together and promote our community. This wouldn't have been possible without the hard work and monetary donations from several individuals. We are extremely grateful for their efforts and thank them for their continued contributions. Visit the following link to find more details on these individuals.
Note that as our community has grown over the years, sustaining the food table program has become challenging. We encourage you to help us here by volunteering to serve as a host, volunteering to prepare food or providing monetary donation so that some food items can be catered.
Please contact our food coordinator, Neha Mehta @ (919) 454-7447 for any questions / details.
