2025 - 2026 Entering Grade 7 Summer Assignments

French (with M. Kondratiev): Ongoing Reading (1+ Book)

Your summer homework is to read 10 to 20 minutes in French  a day. You must complete at least one book. There will be a book-related project done during the first week of school related to this book.

Links for free readings, free audible books, free magazines or videos to watch in French.

Audible books.

Free Books for Middle School

Free French books online : They have free books for children from 0 to 12 years old. I recommend clicking on TAGS and choosing topics or types of books like “Bandes dessinées, romans, enquêtes…”

Free Magazines 1 : ASTERIX

Free Magazines 2 : 1JOUR1ACTU (articles and videos)

Videos : C’est pas sorcier !

Math (with Ms. Paquette): One Ongoing Task

The purpose of summer work is to prevent loss of learning.

For Math this summer, please use your IXL account to practice any skills you’d like within the 6th grade or 5th grade sections.  It can be topics we learned this year that you’d like to refresh or new topics you’d like to learn. Complete at least 2.5 hours (180 minutes) total practice for the summer.

Rationale for IXL math instead of a paper packet:

  • Students can choose topics
  • It shows you how to do it if you don't know
  • It shows you how to do it if you get it wrong
  • It can be done anywhere with internet access on any device (phone, tablet, laptop, etc.)

Parents who don't want their students online over the summer can request a paper packet by June 20th.

During the first week of next school year, I will access the records in IXL and check that you practiced for 180 minutes.

If you have questions about this assignment, please email me at: spaquette@fasri.org.  I will check my email periodically throughout the summer.

English (with Ms. Kemper): Ongoing Reading (1+ Book)

The first semester we will be focusing on Individualism vs. Conformity. So, students should choose at least ONE book to read from the list below. An assignment related to their choice book will be completed the first week of school. Note: all books listed are Young Adult Books, but some do contain intense topics/scenes and should be chosen at the parent/guardian’s discretion.

Obtaining the books: Students will NOT have to have a copy with them at school so borrowing the book from the library is a good option. If you have a library card, you can get a digital copy from them and use Overdrive or Hoopla. These are my recommendations, but if you need to choose another grade level book, that is ok too!

  • The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton (All students will have to read this the first trimester if they don’t read it over the summer. Very likely a free PDF of book is available if you google. )
  • New Kid by Jerry Craft
  • Stef Soto, Taco Queen - Jennifer Torres

Written Assignment:

Will be assigned and completed during the first week of school.
