UCA Community Foundation Announces Microgrant Awards to “Fill the Space” Leadership Bootcamp Series and Four Other Community Projects

The UCA Community Foundation (UCACF) has recently announced the recipients of its microgrants, awarding funds to five promising initiatives:

  1. The "Fill the Space" Leadership Bootcamp Series, a program proposed by the APAPA Carolinas Chapter. This initiative aims to advance AAPI communities in both North and South Carolina through enhanced leadership and civic engagement.
  2. The Campaign for Lunar New Year as Legal Holiday, proposed by the Boston Chapter of the Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs Association (APAPA), New England Chinese American Alliance (NECAA), and the Massachusetts Chapter of United Chinese Americans (UCA).
  3. The Student Art Competition, proposed by the Chinese American Museum in Washington DC.
  4. The AEC Youth Leadership Workshop, proposed by the All-Earth Citizens Foundation based in Southern California.
  5. Stage Plays "The Citrus Wizard - Lue Gim Gong" and "The Chair in Columbia University," proposed by the North American Maple Culture Center in Connecticut.

A member of the Grant Application Review Committee highlighted the value of the AEC Youth Leadership Workshop, stating, "The workshop provides an excellent opportunity for local Chinese American ASB student leaders to connect with professionals and discuss real-world issues. Each program staff member is responsible for specific tasks and accountable for the quality and design of the program."

Chairwoman of the Grant Application Review Committee, Qian Ge, noted, "We not only seek innovative ideas but also accountability. A significant number of applications were rejected due to the absence of a budget! To successfully apply for our grant, applicants should provide a detailed budget and plan on how to utilize the funds."

We encourage more local Chinese American community organizations to apply for our grants. Applicants can visit our website at ucacf.org to fill out and submit an online grant application form. Project applications should meet the following criteria:

  1. The project's objective must align with UCA’s mission.
  2. It should be a charitable start-up project.
  3. It should have an established project management team.
  4. It should be unique and creative.
  5. It should have the potential for significant and broad social impacts.

Applicants should prepare a business plan containing detailed project objectives, description, work plan, timeline, milestones, and budget. Grant applications are submitted online and reviewed by UCACF’s Grant Application Review Committee. The online submission link is: https://ucacf.org/grant-application.

About UCACF

ucacf.org

UCACF is a charitable foundation launched by UCA. It assists local Chinese American community organizations in raising funds for start-up charitable projects and programs, addressing the challenges of small and medium-sized local community organizations. UCACF aims to provide microgrants ($500 to $5,000) as seed funds for community projects to enrich and empower Chinese American communities.

UCACF operates as an "angel fund" for non-profit causes. We accept grant applications online and utilize a streamlined application review and approval process. It takes less than two months for an applicant to receive a grant. The UCACF organization consists of four volunteer teams: the Board of Trustees, the Grant Review Committee, the Executive Committee, and the Board of Advisors.

As a young organization, we are actively seeking more volunteers and welcome feedback and suggestions. Please contact us at ucacommunityfund@gmail.com or visit our website for more information.
