Volunteer Coordinator (PetValu)


Goal:  The main focus of the role is to ensure that the cats in the store are happy, healthy and well taken care of through superior volunteer support.

Toronto Cat Rescue has partnered with several PetValu stores to showcase adoptable cats.  Volunteers go in daily to care for the cats, clean the cages and provide mental and physical stimulation to the cats through interactive play and petting.  The volunteer coordinator’s role is to manage volunteer schedules and ensure that the cats are being well looked after.


As a Store Volunteer Coordinator your role would include:

  • Receiving, reviewing  and responding to volunteer inquiries and applications
  • Screening and selecting store volunteers
  • Ensuring store volunteers are trained according to TCR and Pet Valu policies
  • Maintaining a volunteer schedule
  • Communicating important  information to store volunteers
  • Acting as main contact for all store volunteer related inquiries
  • Maintaining current volunteer contact list and communicating with the Store Volunteer Recruitment Coordinator to keep central volunteer records accurate and up to date
  • Communicating with the Store Volunteer Recruitment Coordinator about volunteer needs
  • Communicating with the Store Coordinator regarding the wellbeing of the cats, the movement of cats into and out of the store, any concerns or issues,
  • Monitoring volunteer performance and providing additional training or mentorship when required
  • Tracking and logging volunteer hours
  • Assisting  in organizing and running of special adoption events


  • Strong organization skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to keep detailed records
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems quickly and professionally
  • Ability to effectively lead and motivate teams
  • Have daily access to email and phone
  • Proficiency with Gmail, Google Docs and Sheets
  • Able to visit the store at least weekly
  • Attendance at quarterly special adoption events
  • Knowledge of cat care, health and behaviour

Training new members of the adoptathon team takes time.  As such, we ask that applicants be available to commit to at least 6 months of their time.
