From the Principal

26 February 2018

Nau mai haere mai, Greetings ● Tena Koutou ● Talofa Lava ● Malo e Lelei ● Namaste ● Ni sa bula ● Noaia'e mauri ● Kia Orana ● Asalam Alykum ● Ni Hao ● Konnichiwa ●

It’s hard to believe we are already starting the 5th week of Term 1 - where did those first four weeks go?  In the last two weeks Science, Digital Technologies and Art classes have started across the school.  The students have been very excited to work with different teachers and the activities have been highly engaging.  Keep checking our Facebook page for photos each week!

Some important upcoming dates to note:

Please join us at 4:30pm in the hall to welcome new staff and whānau to Anchorage Park School.  Our very own kapa haka group will be leading this first ever APS powhiri and they would appreciate your attendance to support them.

Following the powhiri will be the highly anticipated annual PTA Family Fun Night.  Flyers have been sent home with information about the amazing events and delicious kai that will be available.  EFTPOS or cash will be accepted to purchase $1 tokens on the night.  There will also be a chance to say “hi” to your child’s teacher.

School closes at 12:30pm and Learning Conferences with your child’s teacher will be scheduled between 1:30pm and 6:30pm.  More details to come.

School closed - Staff Only Day to complete Ministry of Education professional development.

I’ve noticed a big improvement in our car park area in the mornings.  Parents are being very considerate and ensuring it’s more of a “Kiss and Drop Zone” rather than a time to have a chat or check that children are dressed properly.  This means it’s a much safer place for our tamariki when they arrive at school.

Pasifika Group

We have a number of children very keen to participate in a Pasifika group to learn songs and perform in school assemblies etc.  Do you have expertise or do you have any friends/family with expertise who would be willing to help get a group started?  Please contact the school office 5769175 or office@anchoragepark.school.nz

Morning Expectations

There has been some confusion about when students are allowed into classrooms in the mornings.  During fine weather the classrooms will be unlocked at 8:30am so students can prepare for the day.  During wet weather the classes will open earlier where possible.  If a teacher is in a meeting the door may remain locked so students are welcome to wait in the nearest open classroom.

Treemendous Makeover - we need your help!

Please contact the office if you are able to offer your skills to help us build our dream makeover.  We’re hoping for builders, plant donations, river stones, bark and general labouring!  Email office@anchoragepark.school.nz or call 5769175 - thank you in advance.

NZEI Union Meeting

You may hear news reports about paid union meetings for teaching staff.  Some Anchorage Park School teachers will be attending a meeting on Wednesday 21 March.  The school will remain open as some teachers will attend the morning meeting and others will go to the afternoon meeting.  To avoid closing the school we will combine classes, with the support of teacher aides, to minimise any inconvenience for our families.  Please contact the office or your child’s class teacher if you have any queries about this.

PTA AGM

The Anchorage Park School PTA will be holding an Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 21 March at 7:15pm in the school staff room. Nominations are called for and elections will be held for the positions of Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer. For detailed job descriptions contact Kirsty Johnson on kirsty@thejohnsons.net.nz.  All welcome.
