Psalm 70. 5 short verses. We left off Thursday talking about WHY would David be writing just 5 short verses. Here is a recap. If you remember, I cited Spurgeon that said: “Psalm 70 is a connecting link between two Psalms requesting an earnest & humble prayer. So, we ended 69 on the note of deliverance. Here, in 70, David petitions God to “Hurry to help me, Lord.” David appears overly anxious as he apparently in serious trouble, so he calls on God to act quickly before it is too late. This Psalm is almost identical to Psalm 4:13-17. Read em & compare! Verses 2-3, seem to help indicate that his enemies are mocking him when he says: “Aha, aha!” We have no idea what kind of trouble David is in. What we do know about David is that he faced danger many times as kibg. Remember, David was loved by the people as he served as king of Israel. He served as a powerful king for over 40 years. In 1 Samuel 13:14, God called him “a man after His own heart.” David was almost always in close fellowship with God. That means at times, he took the wrong path. Aren’t we guilty of the same thing? Yes! Even though he stayed close to God, he experienced danger for his life much of the time. In Psalm 40, David stated he was “stuck in a pit that he could not escape.” Truthfully, don’t we have the same thoughts at times? Yes! David thought he could never escape & that he may even die. David says:
“Hurry!” David is anxious for the Lord to come. Several times he makes a statement to “Hurry” &
“Do not delay. He is telling God that he needs Him now! He is saying that if You don’t help me now, it may be too late! I think all of us have been in that situation before. What did you do? Did you call on God? Did you react like the flesh or did you respond like Jesus? The answer to this is simply turning to God by praying. He desires to hear from us. Won’t you call on him? How close to the Lord are you? Think about it & do it! Have a great week & beca blessing to someone else n need. As I said yesterday: Be the One who steps out of your comfort zone & run after them!

Psalm 70. Let’s close it out. I want to remind you that King David is the beloved king of Israel. He reigned & ruled with power for over 40 years—BUT—even as a
“man after God’s own heart”—he too faced constant troubles. He was in danger most of his life. So, how did he face those troubles? What do you do? David set a great example for us to follow. He laid out the bread crumbs. The answer for us as Christians is the same as it was for the king. He turned to God Almighty & so should we! It is as simple as that! But, do we? Most don’t & until you figure that out—until it is your 1st choice—you will continue to suffer. No matter how desperate, we should turn to the Lord. David knew to turn to God & we too should remember. In Philippians 4:6-7, the apostle Paul also reminds us. Read em’! In this Psalm, David prays for 3 things:
1-he prays for a quick deliverance for himself—v.1 & 5. David does not waste any time in going straight to the point & says: “God deliver me. Hurry to help me, Lord!” David needs help now!
2-In verses 2-3, David prays that his enemies will be shamed & confused—“disgraced and confounded.” He DID NOT pray for revenge! Romans 12:9. Read it!
We need to learn to pray for our enemies. Pray that they would find salvation in Jesus!!! We should pray for those who do evil & they might be shamed, but pray they find Jesus!!! 3-David prays for the righteous. He prays for the heart they have to delight in the Lord. Psalm 37:4. Read it! He desires that they “love His salvation and continually say, “God is great!” We should always remember there are others experiencing the same stuff we may be going through & we need to pray for them. If we need prayers, so do they. V.5 is just David’s basic belief. He is “afflicted and needy” & God is his help and his deliverer.” Aren’t we the same? I believe all of us are just like David. We must believe & have confidence like David that we cannot help ourselves & that God is the ONLY ONE that can & will help us. David knew his weakness & he also knew of God’s grace. Do you? When we are weak, He is strong. 2 Corinthians 12:9. Read it! The very last line is a line I hear many Christians making today.
“Lord, do not delay.” It is reminiscent of Revelation 22:20–
“Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!” Even though He is coming, today, we must endure despite our weaknesses & lack of faith & look to Jesus as our ever present help & deliverance from evil.
Hebrews 12:1-2. Check it out! Have a great week! Pray for yourself & for others! Pastor Mike
