Course Description
This CE session offers a fresh lens on how pharmacists can shape health-system strategy beyond traditional roles. Drawing from experience in pharmacy and administrative leadership, the session explores how hospitals operate behind the scenes, highlights real-world initiatives that impact pharmacy practice, and emphasizes why pharmacist voices are vital in strategic decision-making. Attendees will gain insights and practical tools to navigate and lead within complex health systems.
Learning Objectives
At the completion of this application-based activity, participants will be able to:
1. Analyze key components of hospital and health-system operations, including governance, budgeting, and decision-making processes that influence pharmacy practice.
2. Evaluate how strategic priorities, such as quality improvement, cost containment, and patient safety, shape organizational initiatives and affect medication-use policy.
3. Apply principles of systems thinking to identify opportunities for pharmacy involvement in operational and strategic projects within their institutions.
