Key Knowledge

Sensational Salads: Children will learn about peeling, zesting, cutting safely and applying these skills when preparing healthy dishes. They will learn key information about healthy eating and where their food comes from. They will gain some practical ideas about ingredients that can be combined to make interesting and healthy salads.

  • To know where food comes from (whether it is grown, reared or caught) in the context of looking at different fruits, vegetables and fish
  • To know the names of  different fruits and vegetables.
  • To know that all food comes from plants or animals
  • To know that food has to be farmed, grown elsewhere (e.g. home) or caught
  • To know where fish comes from and why it is important to eat fish.
  • To know the five groups in the Eatwell Guide
  • To know everyone should eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables every day and start to explain why
  • To know how to use the basic principles of a healthy and varied diet to design, prepare and make a seasonal salad.
