RULES AND GUIDELINES
DESCRIPTION
It’s time to grab your dance partner once more, select your favorite tune, and get ready to compete in this year’s Cosplay Carnival 2023! The Cosplay Dance Duet is a talent competition where the best performers battle it out.
To keep with the theme of Cosplay Carnival, all performers must be in cosplay costumes during their performance. Performers do not have to worry about possible song restrictions due to this competition being open to both Japanese and mainstream songs.
DISCLAIMER
- Registration and participation in this contest constitute the performers gives the right and the authority to Cosplay.PH organizers/staff, its sponsors, and authorized press media to take pictures and/or videos of registered cosplayers, teams, and its members and will be the sole property of the organizers/staff, its sponsors, and authorized press media to be used for future publications and/or advertising promotions.
- Cosplay.PH organizers and its staff and their relatives up to the 2nd degree of affinity or consanguinity are disqualified from participating in the competition. This includes parents, grandparents, children, grandchildren, uncles or aunts, first cousins, nephews or nieces, and brothers or sisters.
- By joining the contest, you also agree to us adding your email to our mailing system for marketing and promotions of future Cosplay.PH handled and organized events
COSPLAY DANCE DUET GUIDELINES
- The competition is restricted to a maximum of 10 pairs. Only PAIRS who have tickets will be qualified to join.
- If the 10 slots have not yet been taken by the day of the competition, we will be reaching out to our wait-listed registrants to fill in the remaining slots.
- Messy props and acts that can cause property damage are not allowed in the contest (see General Guidelines for additional details).
- Due to the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions and safety protocols, mic usage will NOT be allowed for the contest
- Usage of BGM will be allowed but shall not exceed a maximum of three (3) minutes. BGMs can be submitted during pre-registration or to follow, HOWEVER, must be sent on or before March 22, 2023.
- BGM should be in a .MP3 format
NOTE: Due to the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions and for the safety of all its staff, BGM submission on the day of the contest or request for a change of song is not allowed once the deadline for submission has ended.
- Should the BGM provided by the contestant exceed the maximum three (3) minute time limit, the audio will be faded out signaling the contestant that the performance should be over. Should the team continue with their performance beyond the three (3) minutes, judging penalties will be applied (see below.)
- Contestants must be in costume, although the costume does not necessarily have to be from any specific series. The costume could even be original, but bonus points could be provided for particularly creative costumes.
- When the contestant first approaches the stage, they will do a short interview with the host/MC to introduce themselves.
- They will then be given a maximum of three (3) minutes to perform for the judges with their given talent.
- At the end of the performance, one (1) judge at random provides any insights that the judges may have regarding their performance.
REGISTRATION
Contest registration is only available online.
To register online, please click HERE. Teams must provide the following details:
- The member’s stage names or the group’s name;
- The real name of each member;
- The name of the character that the members are cosplaying as;
- The series from which the character(s) came;
- The member’s or group leader’s working contact details (mobile phone AND email);
- BGM for their performance;
NOTE:
- The information above must be truthful; falsifying any of the information will result in instant disqualification and the cosplayer will not be allowed to join the succeeding year's competition as an additional penalty. All registration information will be kept in the strictest of confidence and other cosplayers will not be informed whether a particular competitor has entered the contest or not.
- Online registrants are still REQUIRED to have an event ticket and confirm their participation for the contest on the day itself and are asked to approach the contest registration table ahead of time, otherwise FORFEITING their slot to give way to on-site registrants.
Online registration for the Cosplay Dance Duet will be closed by March 21, 2023, at MIDNIGHT. This is for us to finalize the list of online registrants. Entries received after the deadline will be considered NULL and VOIDED.
COSPLAY DANCE DUET CONTESTANT SELECTION
From all the entries submitted online, only a maximum of 10 (ten) pairs will be allowed to join the competition which will be held on Day 2 (April 2, 2022) of Cosplay Carnival 2023
Final set of contestants will then be contacted via email but will need to confirm their entry during the event day itself. If online registrants do not confirm by 3:00 PM, Waitlisted registrants will be allowed to take their slot.
ATTENDANCE AND CALL TIMES
- Online registrants will be required to confirm their attendance at the Cosplay registration desk on or before 3:00 PM on April 2, 2023. If a slot becomes available, a representative from the Contest and Registration team will reach out to the wait-listed registrants via SMS and/or email
- Groups will be provided a contestant number tag upon confirmation and must be worn when at the backstage area. They must be present at the holding area no later than 3:30 PM to prepare for the competition in full costume.
- Failure to arrive before the call-time, may be grounds for disqualification from the contest.
- Regardless if said contestant already has an ID number, indicating that he/she is participating in the contest.
GENERAL GUIDELINES
- Fanservice (ie. yaoi, yuri, etc.) is allowed but should be “General Patronage”. Violation of the General Patronage rating as well as the following guidelines may be grounds for Cosplay.PH management to disqualify any participant on said grounds:
- Any obscenity, political messages, or endorsements;
- Hate symbols and/or speech;
- Excessive blood and gore;
- Any kind of extreme kind of fanservice (ie. kissing, PDA, etc.) that is deemed inappropriate for minors; and
- Costumes that are too revealing (ie. exposes private parts) are prohibited.
- Scantily clad and/or sexy costumes are allowed but not encouraged.
- Cosplay.PH organizers have the right to refuse contestants to join, at their discretion, if they deemed the costume is too revealing
- The organizers, Cosplay.PH management and its staff will not be held responsible for damage or injury resulting from mishandling and/or negligence of a cosplayer in his/her use of props/materials throughout the duration of the event.
- Contestants under eighteen (18) years of age as of the event date must have their parent/s and/or legal guardian/s sign the waiver/image release form to be provided at the registration table.
- The organizers reserve the right to disqualify any group who ignores and/or violates any of the aforementioned guidelines above also including but not limited to:
- Un-sportsmanship like conduct towards other competitors
- “No Photography and video recording” policy if being implemented before the start of the contest and/or at the backstage area
- Unruly behavior toward competitors, organizers, and staff
- Disregarding any given resolution by any Cosplay.PH staff to a concern by the contestant
- As part of the updated health and safety protocol of the local LGU, Contestants are allowed to remove their facemask with the following conditions:
- Contestants can remove their facemask ONCE on stage
- When possible, pairs should still comply with social distancing measures
- Before going down the stage after their performance, contestants are REQUIRED to put back on their facemask
JUDGING CRITERIA
A panel of judges will judge the contest with the following criteria in mind:
- Performance Quality (60%): Overall quality of the performance including choreography for dancers, vocal quality for singers, etc.
- Costume Quality and Relevance (20%): The creativity of the costume being worn as well as how it complements the performance of the song.
- Entertainment Value (20%): The level of entertainment the performance provides as well as its effect on the crowd.
JUDGING PENALTIES
In addition to the judging scores, penalties will be imposed on the following rule infractions:
- Exceeding Time Limit (10% Infraction): For every one (1) minute or fraction thereof that the performance exceeds the time limit of one (1) minute, a 10% score deduction will be applied.
- Un-sportsmanship like Conduct (10% Infraction): For actions that are demeaning to the organizers, staff, or judges or that incite conflict in the competition, a 10% score deduction will be applied. If this unsportsmanlike conduct continues, it may result in disqualification and ejection from the venue grounds. Multiple cases of un-sportsmanship like conduct or willful defamation of character of any of the organizers, staff, judges, or fellow competitors will result in a year-long suspension from any events organized by Cosplay.PH
- Intentional Violation of Contest Rules (20% Infraction plus 1-Season Suspension): For proven cases of cheating, dishonesty, and sabotage, a 20% score deduction will be applied. In addition, the offending contestant will be given a 1-Season Suspension where they will be unable to join the competition for the remainder of the competition as well as the next year's competition.
Cosplay Dance Duet judges’ decisions are final and cannot be appealed.
AWARDS
At the end of the event, the scores will be tabulated and the highest scores based on the judges will be determined. The awards will be as follows:
- Cosplay Dance Duet Champion: ₱ 2000 cash
- Cosplay Dance Duet Runner-Up: ₱ 1500 cash
NOTE:
- The winners will be contacted at least 15 to 30 minutes before the awarding ceremony and must be present at the backstage area so that the winners can properly be briefed as well as introduced to the stage team for proper handling before the actual awarding ceremony program
- Please ensure that the contest and registration team can reach you at your team’s registered phone number that you have provided if you are our winners.
- If there is a compelling reason for any of the team members not to be present during the awarding ceremony, they will be required to inform an organizer beforehand and provide a proxy for themselves during the awarding ceremony.
- If any of the winners are not present before or during the awarding ceremony, the next highest-scoring team will be awarded the prize instead.
