Proudly recognizes our Senior Class of 2022!
Congratulations to Grace Guillaume!
What is a favorite memory from this year in EDGE?
My favorite memory this year in EDGE has been collaborating with new friends and teachers. Knowing that I have a team and community to support me in rigorous projects incentivizes me to work harder. I am so thankful to have met a variety of people this year in EDGE, I know that next year I will miss the people in EDGE so much.
How has the EDGE experience prepared you for life after high school?
EDGE has prepared me for my life after high school by giving me the ability to struggle. In traditional classes students often do not have the freedom to take risks and make messes. This is because the class focuses on an assignment with a designated time and topic, and failure to complete it in regard to a very specific rubric gives students a bad grade. EDGE allows me to take on more challenging, real-world work, and fail while doing it. When I tried to be creative with the structure of my essay and it wasn't great I did not receive a D, I tried again over new content until I produced something I was proud of. This year has allowed me to learn how to process failure and learn more from it.
What is the focus of your EDGE senior capstone?
The focus of my senior capstone project is the beauty standard's impact on young girls. My audience consists of high schoolers and parents and really everyone (because who hasn't been judged by their body before?). The history of dieting and expectations for the body is interesting because the media's ideal body image and dieting fads change so quickly that trying to keep up has led to numerous issues (societal and health) that impact everyone. I think knowing what warrants beauty ads, unrealistic expectations, and different societal standards for bodies helps people contextualize why they feel so horrible about their image. In my project I attempt to illustrate the hypocrisy and unreal expectations set on the average teen girl. Overall, my capstone project works to relieve individuals of the battle they face internally, learning to love themselves.

What advice do you have for incoming EDGE students?
My advice for incoming EDGE students is to consult with your peers. I have learned more than I could imagine from freshmen, sophomore, juniors, and seniors alike. Do not underestimate the power in asking for advice.
