Dual Credit

The Dual Credit Scholarship Program enables students to take classes at their local community college for high school and college credit. Dual Credit students may be eligible to take career and technical education and general education courses. All classes must be pre approved by the Dual Credit Advisor.

To receive the Dual Credit Scholarship students must:

  1. Be a BCA student in good standing with a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  2. Be familiar with the Program Guidelines.  
  3. Complete the BCA Dual Credit Scholarship Application.
  4. Meet with the Dual Credit Advisor to plan and approve your college course of study.
  5. Sign the Dual Credit Scholarship Program Student Agreement.
  6. Participate in the Dual Credit Scholarship Canvas course to complete program requirements, meet deadlines, and maintain eligibility.

Benefits of Dual Credit Courses

There are so many benefits of taking dual credit courses. Here are just a few:

  • Success: Students who take dual credit courses while in high school have a greater chance of earning a college degree.
  • Saves time: By starting early, students may earn their degree in a shorter period of time.
  • Reduce stress: Students have an easier time transitioning to college courses with BCA support.
  • Cost: Tuition costs are paid for by BCA for all qualified students.
  • Flexibility: Many community college courses are transferable to 4-year universities.
  • Experience: Understanding college-level pacing and academic expectations puts dual credit students a step ahead.

Important Things To Consider

  • Classes are in person on either LCC or COCC college campus.
  • Students continue to attend BCA cohort and must plan their college schedule accordingly.
  • Grades become part of your permanent college transcript and cumulative college GPA.
  • To maintain eligibility students may not earn Ds or Fs in either BCA or college courses.
  • Credits earned while doing Dual Credit in high school count towards the 90 credits covered by the Oregon Promise Grant.
