MVGS Attendance/Transportation Details

Blue/Green days

  • Attendance is taken at the beginning of first (7:30) and second (9:15) blocks.  

FLEX days

  • On days that start with STEAM groups, attendance is taken at 7:30 in STEAM.
  • Some FLEX days will begin in another location where you will need to complete a sign-in sheet.  Pay attention to instructions for FLEX days.
  • You may only sign in for yourself.  

Absence

  • Parents/guardians are encouraged to call or email the office by 7:30.  It is fine to leave a message at any time.

Late arrival

  • Parents are to call or email the office by 7:30.  It is fine to leave a message at any time.
  • Sign in at the office before you go to class unless you are on a late bus.

Late bus

  • Go directly to class - no need to sign in.  Tell your teacher if the bus was late so they can notify the office.
  • Contact your parents to let them know that your bus is running late.
  • Until you arrive, you will be marked absent.  It will be corrected once your bus arrives.

Leave early

  • A parent must notify us before you may leave.
  • Sign out at the office.

Field trips

  • Attendance is taken according to the field trip information.
  • If you do not attend, you are expected to come to MVGS and will be given an alternate assignment.
  • You are not permitted to drive yourself to field trips.

Jupiter

  • Each day’s attendance is recorded in Jupiter. An alert will be sent to parents if a student is absent.
  • Check Jupiter regularly to make sure your attendance is correct.  
  • Parents should also check Jupiter on a regular basis. Contact the office if you need login info.
  • Contact the office if there is a question about attendance in Jupiter or base school attendance is different from MVGS.
  • Correcting attendance is much easier the next day than it is 6 months later.

Attendance Report to base school

  • Each day’s attendance report is sent to your base school by 8:00 AM, where your attendance is transcripted.
  • The base school attendance officer determines if your absence/tardy is excused or unexcused. If your parent/guardian contacts MVGS, it will most likely be an excused absence.
  • Each school or district has different attendance guidelines.  Direct any questions to your base school.  Your official attendance is transcripted by the base school.
  • Attendance at base school events will not count as an absence on transcript.

In a nutshell

Your attendance is required Monday through Friday 7:30 through 10:50, including FLEX days, unless we are closed.

Alerts

  • Sign up for alerts at your base school and Laurel Ridge.
  • Check Frederick or Fauquier County websites for any closures or delays.

MVGS closed for weather.

  • You will be notified via email.  It will also be on the website.
  • If Frederick County (Middletown campus only ), Fauquier County (Warrenton campus only), or Laurel Ridge are closed, MVGS is closed.  If Laurel Ridge doesn’t open until 10:00am, MVGS will be closed.
  • It is usually not possible to announce a weather closing until the morning.  
  • It is your responsibility to check all classes for assignments and complete.

MVGS has a 1- or 2-hour delay.

  • Base schools usually adjust their schedule to run MVGS buses according to our delay.
  • You will be notified via email.  It will also be on the website.  
  • District buses will still pick up in the bus loop at 10:50.

MVGS is open, base school has a scheduled day off.

  • Buses usually run to MVGS - you are expected to attend MVGS.
  • You will be notified via email if the buses are not running.

MVGS is open, base school is closed due to weather.

  • Buses usually do not run.  Do not take any chances driving to school.
  • Counts as a virtual day - check assignments.

MVGS is open, base school has a 1- or 2-hour delay.

  • Base school buses will run on the 1- or 2-hour delay.

Base school has early dismissal.

  • Buses are on a regular MVGS schedule, picking up students at 10:50am.
