Lincoln Street School Update
First full week is down. We are running on all cylinders and completely up to speed. Thank you to those of you who attended our Open House last Thursday night. If you missed it, please reach out to your child’s teacher for access to the information they distributed if you have not yet. Teacher email addresses can be found HERE.
Our fourth grade kicked off their first Project Based Learning experience on Monday by having a docent from UNH speak with the students about the Great Bay (click here for more information about Project Based Learning and why we are shifting toward this model). Throughout this learning experience, students will be working in cooperative learning groups to develop an understanding on the human impact on the Great Bay. Students will work together to research different effects on the local Great Bay estuary, either positive or negative, and will end up focusing on one. Throughout this process, students will collaborate, reach out to community members to assist with their research, create technology-rich products, share out with their peers, and reflect on their learning. Be sure to ask your children about their learning experiences to continue their learning at home! We’ll have updates about the 3rd and 5th grade experiences in forthcoming updates.
As we usually do at the start of each school year, we've been practicing our building evacuations to ensure we are able to leave the building swiftly in the case of an emergency. Students practice evacuations from the classroom, specialists' locations, and the cafeteria. Students also practice lockdowns with their teachers as well. This is a necessary interruption in a few days a year to ensure the safety and security of the students and staff.
Reminder: We have an Early Release on Wednesday, September 27th. Teachers and staff will be engaging in professional learning to improve our work with your children. The students will be dismissed at 12:50pm. Please be sure to communicate with your child and with us so we know how to route your child to the appropriate place.
**The Cross Country Meet at Swasey School in Brentwood is ON as scheduled today, 9/20.
LSS Track and Field club boys and girls both placed in first at their first meet last Wednesday. We are very proud of them! Perhaps most notable is their sportsmanship. Every year, the Exeter team is congratulated and known as being one of the most outgoing and thoughtful race teams in the Seacoast. Keep up the good work!
Student Council began meeting this week. Classroom representatives will meet every Tuesday morning at 8 am in Mr. Schmitt's 4th Grade Classroom. Student Council raises awareness and funds for a variety of local organizations among other activities that improve our school and school culture. Please be on the lookout for updates and information from the Council. Please read below for the first example:
The School Store will be starting at the beginning of October. The store will be open on Friday's from 8:05-8:25 am. Items are typically 25 cents and always less than one dollar. Students should not bring large amounts of money to school.
