IMPORTANT LETTER ABOUT TEAM TEACHING

FOR INCOMING 5th GRADE STUDENTS

August 2022

Dear Parents/Guardians of Incoming Fifth-Grade Students,

This is to inform you about a very exciting change to the way students will be taught in fifth grade for the 2022-23 school year.  The Rancho Rosal Elementary School team teaches all subject areas in Grade 5. Next school year, there will be one teaching team.  This translates into the following:  

Each student will have their homeroom teacher in which they begin the day with a core subject area.  They will rotate throughout the day to the other 5th grade teacher to receive instruction in the other subjects. Students will receive instruction in English Language Arts and Mathematics all before lunch. This rotation will happen on a daily basis.  After lunch, students will return to their homeroom class to receive instruction in Writing, Science, and History.  Other activities such as Second Step, PE, Library, MakerSpace, and Dramatic Arts will continue to occur and will be worked into the schedule by the fifth-grade team.

According to current research, this approach to instruction allows teachers to teach in areas of specialization while students move from one classroom to another for instruction. There are many advantages to teaming.  Students benefit because they can build rapport with, and are exposed to the instructional wisdom of more than one teacher. Teaming at the elementary level aligns with middle school organization, better preparing students for the transition to full departmentalization in sixth grade. Each teacher is in tune with best practices for their subject area and can provide a variety of instructional strategies to ensure that learning is engaging.  Research shows team teaching strongly benefits both students and teachers.

The decision to team teach in Grade 5 was made with very careful consideration, including the most important factor – positive contribution to your child’s education. The improvement of the learning process for elementary school children is an important goal at Rancho Rosal. We continually strive to optimize the delivery of curriculum and instruction. We will be sure to monitor the effectiveness of this model throughout the year to ensure success for all students.

During Back to School Night, we will be discussing our vision for the year in greater detail, as well as answering any questions you may have about this exciting change in your student’s classrooms.

CARTA IMPORTANTE SOBRE LA ENSEÑANZA EN EQUIPO

PARA ESTUDIANTES ENTRANTES DE 5° GRADO

Estimados padres/tutores de estudiantes entrantes de quinto grado,

Esto es para informarles sobre un cambio muy emocionante en la forma en que se enseñará a los estudiantes en quinto grado para el año escolar 2022-23. El equipo de la Escuela Primaria Rancho Rosal enseña todas las materias en el grado 5. El próximo año escolar, habrá un equipo de enseñanza. Esto se traduce en lo siguiente:

Cada estudiante tendrá su maestro de aula en el que comenzarán el día con una materia básica. Rotarán a lo largo del día con el otro maestro de 5to grado para recibir instrucción en las otras materias. Los estudiantes recibirán instrucción en lengua y literatura en inglés y matemáticas antes del almuerzo. Esta rotación ocurrirá diariamente. Después del almuerzo, los estudiantes regresarán a su salón principal para recibir instrucción en Escritura, Ciencias e Historia. Otras actividades como Second Step, Educación Física, Biblioteca, MakerSpace y Artes Dramáticas seguirán ocurriendo y el equipo de quinto grado las integrará en el horario.

De acuerdo con la investigación actual, este enfoque de instrucción permite a los maestros enseñar en áreas de especialización mientras los estudiantes se mueven de un salón a otro para recibir instrucción. Son muchas las ventajas de trabajar en equipo. Los estudiantes se benefician porque pueden establecer una relación y están expuestos a la sabiduría de instrucción de más de un maestro. El trabajo en equipo en el nivel de primaria se alinea con la organización de la escuela intermedia, lo que prepara mejor a los estudiantes para la transición a la departamentalización completa en sexto grado. Cada maestro está en sintonía con las mejores prácticas para su materia y puede proporcionar una variedad de estrategias de instrucción para garantizar que el aprendizaje sea atractivo. Las investigaciones muestran que la enseñanza en equipo beneficia enormemente tanto a los estudiantes como a los profesores.

La decisión de enseñar en equipo en el grado 5 se tomó con mucha atención, incluido el factor más importante: la contribución positiva a la educación de su hijo. La mejora del proceso de aprendizaje de los niños de primaria es una meta importante en Rancho Rosal. Continuamente nos esforzamos por optimizar la entrega del plan de estudios y la instrucción.
