Custom “one-off” designs:

‘Silver Voyager’, A 45′ “semi-swath” Power Catamaran

(2010-2015): Currently berthed in Easten North Carolina. Designed and built in house at the B&B workshop.         Build Log on the Hull Truth:

B&B Yacht designs completed construction of a 45′ powercat in the spring of 2015. Silver Voyager was designed by Graham Byrnes and was built entirely in house at our shop in Bayboro, NC. The keel was laid and the paint was sprayed by us at our facility. Launched in late 2014, she floated perfectly on her lines and made all of her numbers. She is powered by a pair of 200hp Yanmar diesels and has a top speed of 23 knots and cruises at 15. She has enough fuel capacity for non-stop trans ocean cruising and all the comforts of home. Much of the final fitting out was well documented by her systems engineer Buck Wilde on the hull truth forum. Click here for the thread. See videos below of her running in some nasty chop on the Neuse river during her sea trials.

Update: 2/20/2020

The first sea trials were completed out of Winters Yachts in Swansboro, NC. Here is the video report.

A custom 37′ sport fish designed at B&B to the specifications of Buck Wilde, owner of Rough Point Boatworks Inc. She is currently under construction right down the road from B&B near Harkers Island North Carolina.

Very sadly, our friend Buck (Capt. Hugh L. Wilde) passed away during this build on February 17th 2017. He was a great friend to B&B and worked with us on many builds. Buck was the sharpest tack when it came to all things nautical. As one friend said of Buck, “he has forgotten more about boats than most of us will ever know” and boy is that ever the truth. This build eventually was relocated to Winters Yachts in Swansboro where the construction continues.

This boat was 100% CNC cut after being meticulously 3-d modeled by B&B which allowed us to study all aspects of the design and complete a precise weight and moments study.

All bulkheads frames and stringers are precisely cut to interlock and simplify construction. Permanent and temporary frames are both incorporated into the jig which eliminates the need to fit bulkheads into the hull. Sheer clamps, ledgers for the cockpit and cabin sole and the outboard bracket are all designed into the jig. Even the bottom planking was CNC cut, joined on the shop floor and installed as a single piece!

Briglia 61 “Peggy”

Built by Briglia Boatworks in Wanchese, NC. We were honored to be able to collaborate with Billy Baum, the Godfather of the Carolina Sportfisherman, on her design.

Irving Forbes 26’ (Dec. 2017-ongoing)

This is an ongoing build of a custom design done for Forbes Boatworks in Wancheese, NC. She is built over a CNC cut jig all foam and glass. The transom, cockpit sole and deck ledger pieces were all CNC cut in Coosa foam and installed in the jig. The sides and bottom were planked in foam. Over temporary rib-bands.  more pictures here.

Dream Girl 36’ (Keel laid Jan. 2017, launched Feb. 2019)

The Dream Girl 36 was designed for Steve Wilson to use for his Charter Fishing business on Ocracoke Island. https://dreamgirlsportfishing.com/

She was built using ‘seaflex’ over a cnc cut birch ply jig. Bottom stringers are ¾” plywood with foam hat sections. Hull is solid glass.

NAD 28 (2008): Now the “Cape Lookout 28”

Originally designed in conjunction with the late Capt. Hugh (Buck) Wilde and Diamond City Boatworks in Beaufort, NC in 2008 hull #1 named "NAD 28" is seen pictured below. You can read more about this project on the hull truth forum. The boat was fitted with twin 300s and topped out at a respectable 47 knots (54mph). Buck noted that she could have been built lighter but was dressed with solid teak decking. He also felt that with more prop tuning and motor adjustment 60 mph would have been achievable.

Build log on Hull truth: , PICTURE ALBUM:

“Her bottom, stringers and transom are okoume plywood. So are the bulkheads. Her sides are stripped Western Red Cedar. She has a big sheer clamp and no side frames. Her sides have a layer of uni- directional 90 degrees to the strips and a layer of 1708, inside and out. The bottom is 1708 inside and out. With all the teak she ended up heavier than I wanted and I was never pleased with the engines. Was never given the chance to play with the props and the people that put the engines on mounted them 1 hole lower than I wanted them. She ran 53- 54 mph. But she is the beat sea boat I have ever been on that size and can maintain her speed in a lot of sea….She handles like a sports car and I would not change the bottom at all. Runs good, rides great, trims perfect.”  -Hugh Wilde

After a few years, B&B finally completed the design of the kit version of this boat which we call the Cape Lookout 28 and is now available to purchase.

Cannonball 29’ (2007)

Designed as a one-off and built locally. She is still running under new ownership. She was originally powered by a single Mercruiser Bravo I/O and clocked at 29mph. Then repowered with outboards. Reported to be a great running boat. We hope to kit this boat one day. A great all around sea boat.

Heritage 50 “COMMOTION” (Nov. 2003-??)

Built by Heritage Boatworks in Marshallburg, NC. She was designed in collaboration with Buck Wilde and Robbie Brittingham then Heritage Boatworks. More info on the hulltruth thread. Also see more Construction Pictures here.

“She had a pair of M-11 Cummins , 660 hp with 2:1 gears. She ran well for that power, cruised 27 knots and topped out at 32.5-33 knots. She was built for long runs in the Gulf and the family we built her for wanted good speed with good economy. She would cruise 27 knots at 43 GPH.” -Hugh Wilde
