NEWSLETTER 19 1st July 2019
I really hope you enjoyed the beautiful weather this weekend. With that in mind, please ensure all children have a water bottle and sunhat in school every day and wear an all day suncream if required. We were very proud to spot a mention for Hagbourne School in the Oxford Mail last week. Thank you to a village resident for making us aware!
We’ve had a great two weeks of sporting achievements. CONGRATULATIONS to the swimming team who came joint second at the Didcot and District Swimming Gala last week and won the village schools competition. The team showed some excellent swimming and their behaviour was a credit to the school. Also CONGRATULATIONS to the Cross Country team who WON the whole competition at South Moreton. We are very proud of their excellent performances and sportsmanship - well done team!
We had a great day on Friday with Science Oxford visiting for a day of shows for the whole school. The children loved the shows and had lots of WOW moments! Thank you to the PTA who paid for this for us to celebrate the class competition we had in STEM week earlier this year.
Reception Class had a fantastic trip to Cotswold Wildlife Park last week - they were beautifully behaved and were very lucky with the weather. They are still talking excitedly about all the animals they saw at the park.Year 4 had a brilliant time during the Roman workshop this week. They were thoroughly enthused and had lots of fantastic questions! Year 5 also enjoyed their trip to DGS for the Perform Drama workshops. Finally, a big WELL DONE to year 6 who had a great time at their sleepover to kick off their end of year celebrations. We can’t believe they are now in their final few weeks at Hagbourne School!
Thank you also to the whole swimming pool team, including Ultrapure Window Cleaners who cleaned the dome for us, for your hard work in getting the pool open. The children have had a great start to their swimming this term.
On Tuesday 2nd July, classes will spend the afternoon with their new teachers. Children will still be collected from their normal classroom at the end of the day. If you wish to put a face to a name, teachers will be available in the school hall from 3:00 to 3:30pm for an informal meet and greet. Class teachers are as follows:
Reception - Mrs Duffy
Year 1 - Mrs Hudson and Mrs Lewis
Year 2 - Mr MacKenzie
Year 3 - Miss Hawlor
Year 4 - Mrs Dendy
Year 5 - Miss Mundy
Year 6 - Mrs Dingley
Mrs Surtell will cover classes on Wednesday afternoons, Thursdays and Fridays.
In addition to the transition afternoon on 2nd July, there will also be lots of opportunities for children to meet their new teachers, share stories and visit lessons. We always aim to make the transition to the next year group as smooth as possible - if you have any questions about your child’s next stage, please pop and see us.
Sports Day will take place on the afternoon of Tuesday 9th July. Parents are welcome to enter the school field from 1pm and the event will start at 1:15pm. Children will be in their houses for the field events and will then be in their classes for the track events. Children should be in their school PE kit but are welcome/encouraged to wear a t-shirt in their house colours:
Earth - green or brown
Air - white or yellow
Fire - red or orange
Water - blue
The afternoon will end with the presentation of the house cup. There will be an ice cream van available on the school playground from 3pm if you would like to treat your athletes after the event! We look forward to seeing you all there - let’s hope that this weather continues!
We are so pleased to hear that lots of children enjoyed the Readathon challenge and a big thank you for all the sponsorship money you have already sent in. Miss Mundy will be totalling up the sponsorship contributions and letting us know the final amount raised next week. Sponsopships can be made payable online at https://readforgood.org/sponsor-a-pupil-taking-part-in-readathon or by cash in an envelope with the sponsorship form. Thank you again for your support with this!
May Bank Holiday - change of date!
The government have announced the bank holiday, set for Monday 4th May 2020, would be switched to Friday 8th May 2020, to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day. This will be reflected in our term dates next year.
Save the Date!
The PTA are just starting to organise a circus themed ‘welcome event’ for the afternoon of Saturday 28th September. This will be a great chance to meet other parents and families in your children’s classes. We hope to see lots of you there. Previous Reminders (a space for prior notices for easy access!)
If there have been any changes or updates to your child’s medical needs, including medications and allergies, please ensure that you inform the school and fill out the relevant forms. If your child has an inhaler or epipen in school please check the medication is in date!
Please can we also ask parents to let us know if your child was injured or particularly unwell over the weekend. If we are aware of any injuries we can be best prepared to follow up as needed.
Please also remember we are a nut and sesame seed free school, can we ask that you do not send your children in with any nut product - this includes Nutella and Peanut butter.
Remember all children have a log in to RM Unify (which can be found in their reading record or homework diary). Please use these websites to support your child’s learning at home. RM Unify can be accessed via the Pupil Area on the school website or via the following link https://hagbourneschool.rmunify.com/. Children in Key Stage 2 now also have access to Times Tables Rockstars to support them with learning their times tables.
Please could we ask that only Blue Badge holders park in the disabled spaces in the village hall. Please also take care not to block these spaces in. We do have families in our own school who need to use these spaces and they may also be needed by Blue Badge holders from the wider community. If this continues to be an issue, we will ask the local PCSOs to monitor the situation.
Please see here for next terms menu, remember to log onto Live Kitchen and select school lunches.
