Pandemics: learning from history

Información del proyecto

We want to learn from history. We are not facing something new: the pandemic caused by COVID-19 has references. In the Athens of Pericles (5th century BC), the Antonine Plague (2nd century AD), the Black Death in the 14th century, the Spanish flu "of 1918... all of them can teach us thanks to knowing what happened, how it was acted, how it was overcome...

From the eyes of Myrtis, a real girl from 430 B.C. in Athens, we will go into a pandemic initially; and we will go deeper into the three great pandemics of history.

Let's learn from history!

OBJETIVOS

1)To bring to our students the classical civilization and its survival.

2)To know and value the heritage of the classical world today

3)To value the heritage of Greece and Rome in today's society.

4)Learn about the great pandemics of history, with special mention of Athens with Myrtis or the time of Marcus Aurelius.

5)To promote collaborative work, cooperation and transversal skills.

6)To promote the use of ICTs.

7)To promote the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of our students.

8)To develop creativity and improve their linguistic, technological and digital competence.

PROCESO DE TRABAJO

The work will be carried out in the Twinspace, above all. The students will work in mixed international groups.

1) The characteristics of the different pandemics in history will be studied.

2) Students will work in groups and compare and seek solutions and recommendations to our current reality.

3) The groups will play with the worked contents.

There will be live events between the groups, both teachers (review and modification of the programming above all) and students (communication and real synchronic collaboration)

We will work with web 2.0 tools

Sessions will be dedicated to the project as required, always during school hours.

The project will be integrated in the curriculum of the subject, evaluating the competences and making use of rubrics. All the centres will be coordinated as much as possible in this aspect

RESULTADOS ESPERADOS

The final product will be the Twinspace, where all the work done by the students will have been added. In addition, a blog, videos, digital book, image banks and documents will be created. It is expected, among others, that the students will improve their digital and linguistic competence (English not included). The project will be disseminated through social networks via the hashtag #pandemics_etw

The project will be announced in the respective centres through Twitter, the website of the institutes, with exhibitions in the hall of the institute. In addition, the project will be presented to the rest of the educational community, as well as to parents and other students and the local press.
