Dear Friends and Supporters of Bachman Lake Together,

We hope this message finds you in good health and spirits. With so much change happening daily, we want to let you know that our mission prevails!

While Governor Abbott has given the go-ahead to reopen some businesses on Friday, May 1, we have made the decision to keep the Bachman Lake Together Family Center closed for now. We will continue to monitor and assess the situation, and keep you updated. This has been a difficult decision to make, but the safety and well-being of our community, staff, and volunteers remains our top priority. Our staff continues to work remotely every day, towards our mission of kindergarten-readiness, while advocating for the well-being of the entire family unit.

We continue to leverage partnerships and connect our community and supporters to information and resources that are necessary to navigate during this time. Many Bachman Lake residents work in industries hardest hit by COVID-19 measures and have lost their jobs. Faced with an uncertain future, they are looking to Bachman Lake Together now more than ever to help them get through this crisis. In response, we are focusing more on family well-being, including providing food and professional mental health services, because we know physically, and mentally healthy children are better learners.

In April, we partnered with Catholic Charities Dallas and the North Texas Food Bank to provide 1,256 families with food for several days through drive through mobile food pantry distributions. With so much need across North Texas, resources are depleting, and our families continue to need our support.  We have also worked with Lumin Education to develop early learning resource kits that have been distributed to over 50 families, with plans to provide 100 more.

Many of you have asked how you can continue to help, and there are so many ways.

Donate and/or encourage your network to make a donation here, or send a donation directly to Bachman Lake Together c/o The Dallas Foundation, 3963 Maple Ave #390, Dallas, TX 75219.

Additionally, North Texas Giving Day Now has launched an emergency campaign for 24 hours on Tuesday, May 5.

Please donate here to support Bachman Lake families in the following ways:

·      $5,000 – provides gift cards to feed 50 families

·      $1,000 – funds 8 hours of professional mental health services for children and adults

·      $250 – furnishes 5 early education kits for 5 children ages 0 to 5

·      $50 – supplies protective gear for 5 mobile food pantry volunteers

Most importantly, we would like to thank you for your continued encouragement, communication and support for the community of Bachman Lake as the pandemic and its related consequences evolve. Please know that we cannot do this work without you!

With gratitude,

Olga M. Hickman, PhD
