What is the LEES Program?
USESO is committed to helping students explore and engage with topics and potential careers in the Earth and environmental sciences. This program also includes a curriculum designed for students interested in exploring topics at the intersection of environmental science and environmental justice. The LEES program is not linked to the International Earth Science Olympiad (the international event specifically, which is a separate organization not directly affiliated with USESO) and involves no academic competition, ranking, or exams. The LEES program does include academic activities such as lectures, discussions, and presentations.

Who is eligible for the LEES Program?
Students entering grades 8-12 in the fall of 2024 who are permanent residents of the USA (greencard holder or US citizen). Students should be from an underrepresented community in the Earth and environmental sciences. See our website for more information.
How are students selected for the LEES program?
Program spots are offered on a rolling basis pending essay review and approval. The review process is centered mostly on the two essays submitted with the application.
Where will the program be held?
The 2024 LEES program will be a virtual camp on Zoom. In future years it may shift back to in person.
How much does the program cost?
Tuition is $500 per person.
Are tuition waivers available?
For students to whom the tuition fee poses a significant financial barrier, partial or full waivers are available. Students seeking financial assistance will receive notification of the status of their request in a timely manner.
