Carroll County Schools

In-Person/Distance Learning vs. Virtual School

In-Person/Distance Learning

Virtual School

An online instructional model students can attend when traditional in-person learning is not an option.  It is online learning where students receive instruction and complete their work using Google Classroom. Students log in daily to view both live and recorded instruction.

*The in-person/distance learning is designed for families that plan for participation in in-person learning.

Basic Definition

A virtual school that students can attend in place of traditional in-person instruction.  It is a district purchased online learning platform where students receive instruction and complete their work. Students log in daily to view both live and recorded instruction.

*The virtual option is designed for families that do not intend to participate in in-person learning.

At any time during the school year when students are attending in-person instruction, they might have to move to distance learning if it is determined that in-person instruction is not safe.

Student Enrollment

Only students enrolled in the virtual school participate in this instructional model.  Students who participate in the virtual school model will remain enrolled in Carroll County Schools.  Students enrolled in virtual school must commit for a semester (½) the year.

All teachers will be expected to teach virtually and provide in-person support when it is deemed safe to do so.  Your child’s in-person learning teacher will be the same teacher providing distance learning instruction as necessary.

Teacher

Teachers from all grade levels will be asked to teach students from across the district.  Specific teachers will be assigned to teach classes for virtual school.  Your child’s teacher may not be from your child’s assigned school.

Distance learning will be a curriculum from your child’s school.  This will be the same curriculum your child will receive as with in-person.  The change from in-person to distance learning will simply be the change in mode of delivery.  For example, distance to in-person and from in-person to distance.

Students can view live instruction and feedback with an internet connection or download instruction and assignments for work offline.  In-person small group instruction may also be included as needed by appointment or scheduled by the teachers.

Curriculum & Instruction

Virtual school instruction will include the same standards as in-person, but the curriculum will be different.  Virtual school curriculum will be provided by Edgenuity.

Students will need an internet connection and will be required to have daily attendance.  Parental/guardian monitoring and assurance of student attendance are required.
