The Big Idea:

A silhouette provides just enough to arouse your interest begging you to explore further.

Essential Questions:

Why are silhouette images mysterious and dramatic?
How does backlighting create silhouettes?
When has your curiosity sparked your interest?

Concepts:

Interest sparks your innate curiosity to explore, discover & learn.
When you are interested, you feel open and alive.
Interest fills you with sensations of expansion and possibilities fill your mindscape.
Silhouette images have impact because of contrast, simplicity drama & mystery.
Silhouettes omit details that engage the viewer's imagination to fill the gaps.

Understand > What is Interest?

Interest is when something new or different draws your attention. Interest means you’re fascinated. Interest sparks your innate curiosity to explore and discover.

Interest circumstances call for effort and attention on your part. It’s when you see a new path in the woods and want to find out where it leads. Interest is that fascinating new book that awakens you to new ideas. Interest is when you uncover a new challenge that allows you to better your skills (in cooking, dancing, photographing, programming)

When you’re interested, you feel open and alive. When your interested, you feel your horizons expanding and with them your own possibilities. The intense pull of interest beckons you to explore, to take in new ideas, and to learn more. When did interest last draw you in?

Create > Silhouette images inspired by the following ideas:

Interests - staged silhouettes of your hobby (setup your guitar, books, gear).
Events or places - silhouettes from a place of interest (concert, playground...)
Strong fascinating subjects - a strong recognizable shape being backlit.
Profiles of persons of interest - emphasize facial features in profile.
Natural - emphasize silhouettes found outside because of natural backlighting.
Partial silhouette - allow some details to be seen
Framed silhouette - a figure compositionally framed (in a doorway in a window)
