Course Description: During the second semester, this course covers parallel and perpendicular lines, congruence and relationships within triangles, points of concurrency, right triangles and trigonometry, quadrilaterals, properties of circles, measuring length and area, surface area and volume of solids.
Materials Needed for the Course:
Composition Notebook – for given notes and examples
Three-ring binder – for assignments
Pencil, compass, ruler
Lined and graph paper
Scientific or graphing calculator
Grading Policy: Grades are cumulative through the end of each semester and will be based only on personal effort and performance, not desire or potential. Updated grade reports will be posted on the Q-Shell so students may continually monitor their progress. Student performance will be assessed in areas:
Classwork/Homework -20% | 5 pts. each |
Notes | ~50 pts. per semester |
Quizzes -20% | 10-50 pts each |
Tests/Chapter Project -40% | 60-100 pts. each |
Final Test/Participation -20% | 80-100 pts. each |
Grade scale is as follows:
A = 90% B = 80% C = 70% D = 60% F = below 60% |
Classwork/Homework: Classwork/Homework will be checked daily. Keep assignments neatly written and organized in your notebook. The assignment should be clearly written at the top of the page. Showing work is imperative!!! NO WORK NO CREDIT!!! Reduced credit will be given for late assignments and incomplete assignments. I will accept for partial credit late assignments until end of the semester.
Chapter Tests and Semester Exams: A comprehensive test to measure students’ mastery of skills and concepts will be given at the end of each chapter. Students will be informed of the scheduled test date at least a week in advance. The concepts and skills being evaluated will usually be reviewed the day before the test.
Class Rules and Expectations:
1. Attendance is of utmost importance. Try very hard not to miss class.
2. Be prompt for class and be ready to start immediately.
3. Always bring all of the materials that you need to class.
4. Sharpen your pencils before class begins.
5. Strive to maintain a positive attitude.
6. Be attentive in class and take good notes. Cooperate and participate fully in class activities and work.
7. Use class time wisely.
8. Always do your homework assignments. Effort should be shown on all problems.
9. Ask questions when you do not understand.
10. Do not get behind in your work. As always this math course is cumulative.
