Other Business

  1. Support of Black Students and Alumni at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy        Kwasa, et al.
  1. Review of slides by Kwasa
  2. IAA - Kimmitt, it may be difficult to edit the statement. Kwasa - ask was for a small change on history. Bergstrom: Should we annonomize the responses and then post this presentation to the IAA website, along with the recording of our forum. Cudiamat, yes, and forum is already posted. Kwasa, I’d like a report perhaps instead of the slides presented here. Along with a list of short and long term goals, both that IAA and BAA are working on.
  3. BOT - Stephen: A lot of IMSA’s direction comes from the BOT, IAA can include a written statement to every public meeting (2 months) and have that documented. Kwasa: That seems like a great way to get this out there. Stephen did notify BOT at last meeting about our statement and forum, invited Dr. Torres and Tami to our Annual Meeting at that time. Discussion on how best to present these results, likely a report and the responses as an attachment.
  4. IMSA Fund: Per Moe, Tami has a lot of latitude on IMSA Fund as she crafts the ask each year. The Fund Board can choose to make other / different distributions. Stephen has more knowledge of workings and how to get better information. We would also like to see how the funds for multicultural recruitment are being spent.
  5. Overall thoughts -Messer: With Student Life stuff, key reason to have regular student rep to get input on progress. Liaison with the President's Office and Admissions seem key. Paige: Dr. Torres talks about Equity in Excellence at IMSA, then you don’t hear about it at all during admissions. Seems like a big disconnect. Moe: Diversity, Admissions, and Fund are all under Vice-President, so working through the President's office is critical. Paige: Coming up with a calendar of topics to bring up each month between IAA rep and Alumni Liaison for each of these to keep them top-of-mind at key times. Kwasa: Is having a lot of liason’s too overwhelming for IAA? Isoda: Feels like a good way to make it more manageable. Paige: It lets people pick things they are passionate about. Doesn’t need to be just one person per area either. Gets IAA more involved by being more active in decisions at the Institution. Bergstrom: Is it time to start picking? Cudiamat: This seems like a point where IAA can really take a more active role at IMSA. We should keep planning, be prepared but wait to role this out with the new board in August. Bergstrom: Next meeting should be 2 hours, to allow full conversation and serious discussion with large group. Paige: Great to have this energy, but the new board doesn’t start until September. Like Jose, maybe best to start with 3 Targets for the next year.
  6. Paige: Discussion around the strategy of IAA Liaisons should be much of next meeting, in addition to letters to IMSA.
  1. Approval of Expenditures Related to Statement of Support and Further Action - Paige
  1. 2 x $500 honorarium for moderators, plus $54.99 cost for zoom. Moved by Lu, Seconded by Bergstrom. Approved.
  1. Draft and Delivery of Letters to IMSA Stakeholders        Kwasa, et al.
  1. See VIII. Paige: Should we plan to have letters to approve and send out at the August 17th meeting? Kwasa: IMSA Fund and BOT both target for that date. Cudiamat: While they seem most daunting, they are the most straight-forward, will be most impactful and also will be heard by other areas.

  1. New Business
  1. Bergstrom: Working on a new member orientation, would like help. Cudiamat will help with getting it into the Shared drive.
  1. Announcements
  2. Adjournment
  1. Moved by Paige, Seconded by Kwasa, Approved 10:08PM
