NOVEMBER 2019 Events

Fri. 11/1: Make Laser Cut Geometric Pattern Earrings 3-5 pm  Learn how to make gorgeous earrings to wear or give as a gift.  Registration is required as space and materials are limited.  There is a materials fee of $1.00.

Sat. 11/2: Painting Party with Steve Duprey 2 pm  Learn how to paint a stunning grape still life to adorn a dining room or kitchen wall with local artist Steve Duprey.  Thanks to grant funding from Friends of Macedon Public Library, the cost to participate has been reduced to $15.00.  All materials are supplied (including paint, pallette, canvas, brushes and even the water receptacle), just come ready to express yourself using acrylic paint!  Registration is required, spots in the class are limited.

Monday 11/4 through Saturday 11/9: International Game Week  Come to the library every day this week to play one of two different games set-up in the Idea Factory.  Each day there will be a surprise game.  For those who don’t like surprises, the other games planned are: Monday: Sorry, Tuesday: UNO, Wednesday: Apples to Apples, Thursday: Memory, Friday: Old Maid and Saturday: Yahtzee.

Mon. 11/4:  Learn to Crochet a Hat with Fun Spirals on Top 6 pm:  Join crochet teacher Penny Foley to learn how to make a really cute hat with fun spirals embellishing the top.  

Mon. 11/4: Macedon Senior Luncheon NOON

Tues. 11/5: ELECTION DAY: 6 am-9 pm  Remember to vote.

Wed. 11/6: Kid Time @ the Library 3 pm Children can choose to watch a family friendly movie or to do one of two or three other fun activities.  Public and homeschooled children in grades 3-5 welcomed to attend.  Cell phone use during this time is not allowed. 

Wed. 11/6: Getting More Out of Google: Part III  6-8 pm  Must have pre-registered to take this FLCC Adult Education course.

Thurs. 11/7: Geri-Fit  10:15 am An exercise class for those age 55 and up which promote strength, balance and flexibility.

Thurs. 11/7: Mahjong 2 pm  Play this ancient game of skill, luck and strategy.  All skill levels welcome!

Thurs. 11/7:  Crafty Capers 6 pm Create something beautiful to keep or give to a friend.  Call the library to find out more details on what project has been planned: 315-986-5932.  

Thurs. 11/7: Hooks ‘n Books 6-8 pm Join this fun group who enjoys crocheting all sorts of items for both community and personal use.  All skill levels welcome, beginners encouraged to attend to receive helpful tips!

Fri. 11/8: Play Jackbox Party Pack  5-8 pm Teens who enjoy playing video games with lots of other people at the same time won’t want to miss this fun opportunity.  Play a variety of games using the library’s chromebooks or even your cell phone.  Jackbox Party Pack allows lots of teens to be in the same space playing games together at the same time for a more social gaming experience.  

Sat. 11/9: Scooter Mania! 1:30-2 pm  Kids in grades 2-5 will have a great time using our scooters and colorful balls to play games they invent themselves!  

Sat. 11/9: Puppy Tales 2 pm This is a great way to motivate children to practice reading aloud.  Drop into the library with your child who can take a turn reading to one of the dogs at the library.  This builds confidence within beginning readers of all ages!

Mon. 11/11: Story Time 10:30 am  Bring children age 3-4 years to the library to hear stories read aloud.  No registration required, just drop-in.

Mon. 11/11: 2 pm  Photography Society  Calling everyone who loves to snap pictures with their cell phone or a digital camera.  Join this group  this group led by award-winning, amateur photographer Marshall Handfield to share photographs and receive helpful tips and advice.  Join.  If the weather is cooperative, the group may head outside to explore and practice photographing interesting subjects as a group.

Mon. 11/11: Make a Glass Pendant and/or Earrings with Local Glass Artist, Randy Kennard  2 pm  Join Randy Kennard and make either a glass pendant with glass earrings to match, or two pendants or two set of earrings.  All of the supplies will be provided.  Pieces will be fired in Randy’s kiln and need to be picked up at a future date.  These glass pieces would be excellent for holiday gift giving or for personal wear.  

To participate, call the library at 315-986-5932 to reserve a spot in the class.  Space is quite limited.  There is no fee to participate in this glass workshop thanks to funding from Friends of Macedon Public Library.

Mon. 11/11: Get Paid to Work for the Census Bureau Noon-3 pm 1225 In 2020, the Federal Government will be collecting data for the US Census.  Many workers are needed to help gather accurate information.  Jobs are temporary, but pay between $17 and $18 per hour.  Find out how you can earn money by working on the census.  Stop by the library to learn more from a US Census representative

Tues. 11/12: Story Time 3:15 pm  Bring children age two to three years to the library to hear stories read aloud. No registration required. Just drop-in.

Tues. 11/12: Songwriter’s Workshop #1  6-8 pm Thanks to funding from the Nelson B. Delavan Foundation, the library will offer a series of songwriter workshops for all generations.  

Children, teens and adults will first learn how to construct the lyrics for a song by writing a song together as a group.  In following workshops, participants will be

able to write the lyrics for a choice of melody provided by the instructors.  The song written as a group will be performed and professionally recorded.  Independently written songs will be performed at a community concert scheduled to take place in early December.

The workshop series is run by Nancy and John Bryan, a professional singer-songwriting duo.  Nancy Bryan is a grammy nominated songwriter who has written songs for Walt Disney Records as well as shows featured on MTV.  John Bryan is a talented sound technician who is highly skilled at creating music tracks that artfully blend the sounds of instruments with the voices of singers. Both Nancy and John give participants an amazing opportunity to learn about the variety of skills involved in creating and producing music.  

To register for these workshops, call the library at 315-986-5932.  There is no fee to participate.  Please note the workshops will meet on the following dates and times:  Tuesdays at 6 pm: 11/12, 11/19, 11/26, 12/3, Sunday, December 1 at 1 pm for recording and Saturday, December 7 at 10 am for the community concert.

Thurs. 11/14: Naturescape Leaf Art with Nancy 6 pm  Make a stunning design using authentic fall leaves under the direction of a local artist.  The end result of this project would make a lovely gift for a family member or friend who enjoys the beauty of nature.  This program made possible with funding from Friends of Macedon Public Library.  Program will be located in the Idea Factory at the library.

Fri. 11/15: Teen Lounge (age 13+) 3-5 pm For teens who consider themselves makers or slackers.  Meet in the Idea Factory of the library to get creative or just chill out.  Enjoy a free cup of cocoa, coffee or tea, too.  For teens planning on using the Glowforge, there is a fee for materials used.

Sat. 11/16: Macedon Seniors Faux Quilted Ornaments 2-4 pm Macedon residents age 55 and up can learn how to make this homespun looking ornament. All materials will be provided. 

Mon. 11/18: Macedon Senior Luncheon NOON

Mon. 11/18: Jack Kowiak Details the History of Thanksgiving 1 pm  Perk up the conversation at this year’s holiday meal with some little known facts about Thanksgiving. Many time honored traditions related to Thanksgiving are not connected to the Pilgrims, but are from some other surprising sources.  This will be an eye-opening presentation made possible with funding from Friends of Macedon Public Library.

Thurs. 11/21: MPL Friends Meeting 12:45  Join this group of patrons who work together to raise funds for the great programs offered at the library.  This is a great way to support the library while making new friends!

Fri. 11/22: Laser Cut Geometric Pattern Barrette 3-5 pm  Learn how to make a barrette using the Glowforge.  The pieces will be pre-cut for you to assemble.   There is a fee of $1.00 for this project.  Registration is required as space is limited.

Mon. 11/25: Story Time 10:30 am  Bring your children age 3-4 years to the library to hear stories read aloud.  No registration required, just drop-in.

Mon 11/25: Library Board Meeting 6:30 pm   Public welcome to attend.

Wed. 11/27: Original Mask Making with Retired Art Teacher, Marlene Conti 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm While mom and dad are preparing salads and dessert for Turkey Day, children can come and make a Paris Craft mask.  Use imagination to design a human face, an animal or even an alien creature! All supplies and materials will be provided.  Children should wear old clothing or bring a smock as acrylic paints will be used.  

Masks will be created from 2-4 pm and left to dry until 6 pm. Painting and decorating can be done at the library from 6-8 pm.  Or, if preferred, masks may be picked up at 6 pm and decorated at home with the child's own materials.  

Must be 10 and up to participate.  Creative teens and adults who want to participate are also welcome!

The library will be closed on Thursday, November 28 and Friday, November 29 in observance of the Thanksgiving Holiday.  It will re-open on Saturday, November 30 from  1-5 pm.
