NLGAMES Bay Roberts 2020

Technical Packages for the NLGames are developed by the Provincial Sport Organization governing each respective sport. Questions should be directed to the Technical Chairperson as noted in Section 1 below, or to the SportNL Games Coordinator Stephanie Fowler by email sfowler@sportnl.ca or phone 709-576-3397.

3.        ELIGIBILITY

Boys: Competitors must be registered with Baseball NL. Interested players should be advised of the competitive nature of the NL Summer Games. Players should have played in provincial championships over the last two (2) consecutive summers prior to the 2020 NL Summer Games.

Girls: Competitors must be registered with Baseball NL. Interested players should be advised of the competitive nature of the NL Summer Games.


4.        AGE CLASSIFICATION

Boys: Born 2004 – 2006 (age 14 – 16 years)

Girls: Born 2004 – 2006 (age 14 – 16 years)


5.        PARTICIPANTS PER REGION

5.1        ATHLETES

Minimum team size – 13 players; maximum team size – 15 players

5.2        STAFF

Regional teams are permitted to carry a maximum of three staff; at least two of whom are designated as the Head Coach and Assistant Coach.  


6.        STAFF SELECTION

All coaches must be Certified Provincial. If the Manager is acting as an Assistant Coach, he/she must also be Certified Provincial.

Female team must have at least one female coaching staff member. (Coach or Manager)

All coaches and managers must be at least 19 years of age as of December 31, 2020.


7.        REGIONAL QUALIFIERS

Regional all-star teams will be competing at the NLGames. Coaching staff is being named for each region and open try-outs in each region will be scheduled in the Spring 2020. All regional teams must be selected by July 24, 2020.

9.        REGISTRATION DEADLINE

Each regional team must be registered with the Host by July 31, 2020 through an online registration system that will be provided by the Host.


10.        GAMES-TIME MEETINGS

One coach or staff representative from each region and each sport is required to attend the following meetings in the Host region at the commencement of the NLGames:

  1. Coach / Manager General Meeting - date, time and location to be confirmed

Chaired by SportNL and including brief presentations from the Host Committee - will cover logistical information on transportation, accommodations, food services, entertainment, venues, etc.

  1. Sport Technical Meeting - date, time and location to be confirmed

Chaired by the Technical Chair of your sport - will cover sport-specific technical information for your competition.


11.        SANCTION

This competition is sanctioned by Baseball NL. The rules for this competition will be governed by Baseball Canada and Baseball NL.


12.        SCHEDULE

Boys baseball is a first half sport set for August 15 – 18, 2020

Girls baseball is currently a first half sport, with potential changes pending decisions from the NSO.

Final schedules will be posted on www.nlgames.ca in early August after regional teams are selected and registration is completed.


13.        VENUE

14.        MEDALS

Medals will be presented to each regional team member of the first, second and third place finishers.


15.        TECHNICAL INFORMATION

As per the Baseball Canada and Baseball NL tournament rules procedures.

15.1        Competition Format

Depending on the number of teams it will be either a single round robin format or a two division round robin with cross over semi-final playoffs to determine final placements.

Pitching Rules

Baseball Canada pitch count rules will be in effect.

Coin Toss

Depending on the number of teams home team will either be pre-determined prior to the tournament beginning, or a coin toss at the Coaches Meeting prior to the start of the tournament.

Suspended Games

All games that are stopped for any reason shall be suspended and play shall resume at the first available opportunity. All games shall be played to their conclusion.

The Technical Chairman in consultation with the Host Committee shall decide any scheduling change necessitated by competition interruption due to rain, etc.

Mercy Rule

A ten run mercy rule shall be used in all games. The mercy rule will be in effect after five innings.

Team Dress

All teams, including coaches, must be uniformly dressed. All uniforms, including those of coaches, must be numbered. No duplicate numbers shall be permitted.

Bats

Boys - wood bats only may be used.

Girls – aluminum bats.

Game Protest

As per the Baseball Canada and Baseball NL tournament rules procedures.

Fair Play

TBD based on age chosen and/or game length chosen.
