Engine Starting

  1. Set Battery Selector Switch to for “moteur” and “bord” to vertical “on” position
  2. Put transmission in the neutral position (straight up)
  3. (If engine is cold) Turn key in ignition to “glow” position (to the left) for 15 seconds.
  4. Turn the key to the right to test the alarm. Turn the key all the way over to the “start” position (to the right) to start the engine.

Bow Thruster

Location: Controls are at the starboard helm. The bow thruster Batteries are located in bow storage under the bunk. A separate charging system is located in front of the sink under the salon settee.

To Operate:

  • To turn the thruster ON/OFF press both the RED (Port) and GREEN (starboard) buttons for 3 seconds.
  • Pressing either Starboard or Port will engage in the thruster. Push button in the direction you want the bow to move.
  • If not used for several minutes the system will beep and notify you it is shutting down.

Electrical

AC Electrical Switches

The main AC breaker is located in the starboard stern locker. AC panel is located at the navigation station

House Battery Switch

Located in the starboard aft cabin - labeled “bord”. Horizontal is “off” and vertical is “on”. Batteries are in the port & starboard aft cabin under the berth. The house battery bank is separate from the starter and bow thruster banks. The banks are all separate and cannot be combined.

Battery Charging

Charged by either shore power (make sure AC power and battery charger switch are turned ON) or by running the engine

Monitoring Batteries

Monitor levels when using DC services while the engine is not running.

Battery voltmeter and Link 2000 digital monitor are at the navigation station.

DC Electrical Panel

Located at the navigation station

Electronics

GPS/Chart Plotter/Radar/AIS

Location: Main unit is at the navigation station inside the cabin. Secondary unit is under the cockpit table facing the helm.

To Operate: At the navigation station, turn the “Nav E120” and “Aft E120” switch on the DC panel to “on” and then turn on the power button at each unit. Cockpit unit is slaved to the Nav unit.

Depth/Speed/Wind Instruments

Location: At starboard and port helms. Starboard only shows wind. Port shows depth, speed and wind.

To Operate:

  • In the main cabin, turn the “Autopilot/ Nav Inst” switch on the DC panel to “on”. Do NOT change settings.

Inverter

The inverter is a combination inverter/charger. It charges the house battery bank only and is powered by the house battery bank. While the inverter is in use the water heater and battery charger are automatically disconnected from the AC panel.

To Use: Press the inverter button on the Link2000 at the nav station.

Sails

Headsail

The genoa is on a rolling furler. Jib sheets and furling line (starboard side) lead back to the cockpit.

  • Uncleat the furling line and unfurl slowly (especially on windy days)
  • Get 2-3 wraps around the genoa with the sheets when done and lock off sheets on cleats

Mainsail

Mainsail partially battened with lazy jacks inside a stack pack.

  • The halyard is permanently attached to the head of the sail. It is secured with a carabiner when not in use. Do not detach the halyard from the head of the mainsail.
  • Colibri has a single line reefing system. When adding reefline tension it is easy to bring the tack block too low and do damage.
  • To reef:
  • Unhook the bottom two snaps of the sail cover on the port side of the mast.
  • Pull the cover back and hook the bottom snap with the halyard keeper carabiner.
  • Make sure the bottom of the active tack block never drops below the red line on the mast.
  • Use Halyard tension to keep the tack block high (the bottom of the block should be in line with the yellow line)  while bringing in the slack from the clew.
  • Once all the slack is out lower the halyard and bring on more reef tension to lower the tack block to the red line, then add halyard tension again. If the bottom of the  block ends up between the red and yellow lines that is ok.
  • If using the second reef make sure the first reef block and extra sail are tucked away on the starboard side.

Electric Winch located on port cabin top is for main halyard ONLY!

  • Power on with switch in the starboard aft cabin
  • Controls are just forward of the winch - 2 speeds
  • Ensure battens clear lazy jacks and both reefs, sheet and vang are free to run.
  • Power off winch when not in use

Tankage

Water Tank

Location: Under v-berth

Fill Cap: Forward portside – labeled “water”

Pump-out Deck Cap: Located port and starboard side behind gates – labeled “waste”

**Never pump the tank overboard**

Head

Do not flush toilet paper → put TP in trash.

Make sure the water intake seacock is open. Head sink seacocks are located under the head sinks. Both seacocks are labeled “sink”.

Head Operation:

  1. Move selector switch to wet bowl
  2. Pump 3-5 times to allow water into the bowl
  3. After use, move the selector switch to “dry bowl” and pump contents until the bowl is empty.
  4. Move the switch back to “wet bowl”, pump again a few times to bring in water, then change to “dry bowl”, pumping water through until the bowl is empty.
  5. Move handle into lock position when done

Bilge Pump (Manual)

Location: At the port helm. Manual bilge pump handle is mounted in the starboard cockpit locker on the forward bulkhead.

To Operate:

  1. Remove cover and extend handle
  2. Move the handle up and down to allow the pump to prime. When the pump is primed, moving the handle will be harder, but keep pumping as water is moving through and out the bilge exit thru hull. Pumping will become easier as water exits the boat.
  3. Replace cover when done

Boat Systems

Berths

Sleeps 7 (max) between v-berth, 2 aft cabins and settee

Refrigeration/Freezer

Stove

Location: Switch is located at the DC panel – labeled “propane”.

Operation: Please turn off the switch when not in use. The switch operates the solenoid which controls propane flow to the stove.

Galley Sink

Seacock located forward of the galley sink behind the starboard settee. It is normally kept open. Water pressure can be turned on at the DC panel – labeled “freshwater press pump”.

Head Sink

Forward and aft seacocks are located under the head sinks inside the cabinets.

A hot water heater is located forward of the galley and the sink under the starboard settee. Switch is located at the AC panel – labeled “water heater”.

Hydronic Heater

Location: Three switches at the nav station  – labeled “heater w/ engine”, heater w/ boiler” & “heater single zone”.

Operation: Turn on desired switch. Use Boiler if the engine is not running. There are 4 thermostats on board to control the heat; one in the main cabin and one in the v-berth and one in each aft cabin. When using “single zone” mode the salon thermostat controls all of the heaters on board. You can individually set thermostats when using the other modes.

Anchor & Windlass

Primary Anchor: 44lb Bruce anchor with 350 ft of 5/16” chain. Marked in Yellow every 25 ft and red every 100 ft.

Secondary Anchor: Fortress with 50ft of 5/16th chain and 250 ft of rope rode.

Electric Windlass: Breaker for the windlass is in the starboard aft cabin in the compartment under berth cushions next to the batteries. Remote is in a blue dry bag at the companionway stairs. Windlass control is also at the starboard helm. Engine MUST be running while the windlass is in use.
