THE CHIMES // Social Media Manager

Basic function and responsibility:

The Chimes Social Media Manager assists the Web Producer in overseeing the Chimes’ digital presence and promotion of articles on the Chimes’ website. While the exact details of their duties are determined by their supervisor, their most significant tasks include managing the Chimes’ various social media accounts: Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, creating original and engaging content for our audience, engaging in effective social listening habits and using analytics to evaluate their social media reports.

The ideal candidate is a technology-comfortable student with a firm grasp of basic web design principles and graphic design experience, especially with Canva. They also have a firm grasp of social media management programs and optimal posting times. They also possess some coding experience and a knowledge of how to analyze traffic data. Finally, they work well with a team, staying in constant communication with their supervisor.

Duties:

1. Assist the Web Producer in overseeing the Chimes website.

2. Analyze social media traffic data and suggest ways to improve online visibility.

3. Create engaging social media posts with Canva and inviting captions.

4. Assist the Web Producer in managing the Chimes’ social media accounts.

5. Be available to create engaging posts in a timely fashion, if called upon, including breaking news, sports games and weekend events.

Supervision Received: Editor-in-Chief, Managing Editor, Web Producer

Supervision of Others: No direct supervision of others.

Qualifications:

General: Strong web and social media skills. Flexible attitude. Strong communication skills. Demonstrate a working knowledge of AP style, Google Docs, Wordpress, and various social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Education and Experience: At the time of election or appointment, have completed at least one semester at Biola University with a full-time student status and currently be enrolled as a full-time student. During the term of service, maintain a full-time student status. Prior work or class experience in journalism, public relations or business marketing is preferred.

This position receives a leadership scholarship. In order to retain their scholarship, the staff member must hold to expectations as outlined in a rubric.
