THOUGHTS FROM OUR PRESIDENT…

Greetings, Friends! What are you pulling off the shelves these days? I finished reading The Ministry of Utmost Happiness by Arundhati Roy, which I borrowed from the Woodland Public Library. I enjoyed the complex web of stories that it presents. The novel transcends both space and time, affording a wide swath of exposure to the culture of India. Please make sure to consider joining us for our Annual Membership Dinner on June 8th @ 6pm, which includes a reading by Justin Checkourka author of Sacramento Beer: A Craft History. I hope to see you there!

FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY ANNUAL MEETING AND SPAGHETTI DINNER

On Saturday, June 8, ,at 6 pm, the Friends of the Woodland Public Library will hold their annual membership meeting featuring a spaghetti dinner, beer from Blue Note, and a presentation by Justin Chechourka, author of Sacramento Beer: A Craft History.

This event will be held in the Leake Center at the Public Library, 250 First Street in Woodland. Doors open at 6:00 pm, followed by a brief meeting at 6:30 pm, with a full dinner and beverages served before our author’s talk.

You must be a Friends of the Library member to attend. This is the Friends’ sole members-only event of the year; it’s a special way to thank members for their generous support throughout the past year.

Joining is quick and easy, though, and memberships will be available for purchase or renewal at the door. Memberships dues are just $15 (individual), $25 (family), or $10 (seniors/students). Everyone who renews a membership this year by June 30th will receive membership through June 30, 2020, as well as $5 in Book Bucks, redeemable at any FOL book sale during the next year. And if you’ve been to any of our book sales, you know that $5 will get you a lot of books!

Come to the meeting, say hi to your FOL board members, enjoy a tasty meal, and learn about Justin Chechourka and his work. Books will be available for purchase and signing.

RSVPs are appreciated through the Friends of the Library email: woodlandfol@gmail.com.

A SUCCESSFUL BIG DAY OF GIVING

Thanks to everyone who donated to the Woodland FOL on the Big Day of Giving.  We raised a whopping $3,289.00 through the generous donations of 24 individuals. Big Day of Giving was so successful the FOL Board is already making plans for an even better day next year.

Congratulations to Tayler Faulkner and Kaipo,  winners of a $25 gift card to Dixie's Paws & Claws. Thanks everyone who entered our BDoG dog photo contest. Thank you Dixie’s Paws and Claws for the $25 gift card donation.

Summer at the Library

The library wants to help you fill your summer with books, creativity, and fun! This summer the library invites you to read 5 books, make 5 things, and explore in 5 ways. You can read books from home or from the library. You can make things at home or at our makerspace, Square One. You can explore events at the library, our library resources, places in the community, or just learn something new.

Summer at the Library is made possible by the generous support of the Friends of the Woodland Library as well as by a grant from the State Library.

The Board of Directors of the Friends of the Library is taking a break for the Month of July. There will be no book sales or July newsletter.
