Have fun playing inspiring poly-rhythms and traditional African beats while learning technique and musicality through interactive games and activities designed for self-expression and team building alike! Kids will enjoy playing beautiful drums, shakers, and rhythm sticks through group exercises and individual attention provided by West African Cultural Arts Institute's co-founder who has lived and studied in Guinea, West Africa for close to seven years. Students will also have the opportunity to learn about the culture from Guinea as it relates to the rhythms taught in tandem with corresponding songs and  energetic movement.

Get ready kids to be creative and make a lot of really COOL and FUN art pieces from mediums like ceramics, printmaking, drawing, painting, sculpture, and more! Andrea has over 23 years of experience teaching the arts to children and is very passionate about helping students develop their own artistic process, gain skills and technique, experience creativity and self-expression, and make quality kid tested and approved projects.

Learning Computer Programming with Scratch

Grades 3-6th (Girls are encouraged)

Instructor: Tim Rogers

Program Description: Intended for all students with an interest in programming, this class will allow students to explore programming at their own pace and level. Students will use Scratch (http://www.scratch.org) to create animations, games, and lots more, mastering essential programming concepts as they do. Scratch is fun and easy-to-use, and requires absolutely no previous programming experience.

Tim is the IT Manager and Computer instructor at Oak Hill School. He has worked with computers, networks, and students for over 20 years.

Sole Sisters (Girls Running Group)

Soul sisters is designed to encourage girls to find inspiration within themselves to embrace their individuality, and to overcome the challenges that life presents, as they gain the strength to change the world around them. Soul sisters is about creating a love of self, learning to find the strengths of the mind and body you are given while designing a healthy, active lifestyle that brings happiness! We will train our minds and bodies to be prepared to run the Eugene Marathon 5K race on April 28th.

Due to the waivers needing to be signed by parents, please register your daughter for this race at www.eugenemarathon.com as soon as possible.

Donna Blanc is a Cellist and native of the San Francisco Bay area.  Classically trained, her instructors also taught at the San Francisco Conservatory.  With decades of teaching experience, she will bring a dynamic enthusiasm to our after school music program this February.  In a joyful setting, children will learn the art of critical listening...  They will learn the skills to produce a beautiful tone from their instruments.   Students will also learn to balance musicianship during ensemble.All classes will be taught in a comfortable atmosphere.  They will be encouraged to ask questions, if they need to.If you need help renting an instrument, Please feel free to call Donna Blanc, 503 943-0453.

Adobe Creative Cloud Basics

Grades 5-12th

Instructor Rhodec Erickson

Learn the essential skills you need to begin using the core Adobe Creative Cloud applications: Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, and InDesign. Learn how to work with and photographs and images, to create logos and graphics designs, to edit video, and to use desktop publishing to create complex posters, flyers, brochures, and other documents.

No prior knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud applications necessary.

French Snacks

Bienvenue au gouter!

Students will explore French and francophone culture in greater depth. Le gouter, which means "snack time" in French, will be the focus of every class. The students will learn about the rituals, routines, and vocabulary surrounding food and mealtime in French culture.  In each class, we will enjoy one of the foods that typically makes up the French afternoon snack, like tartines, crepes, baguettes, and foods from other French-speaking countries like Morocco and Burkina Faso. We will also include art, music, and geography activities about the francophone world to accompany our snacks as the students improve their French language skills while having fun.

Home Skills

Grades 3-5

Students are invited to learn home skills on Wednesday afternoons this semester. We will touch on four hand crafts: crochet, knitting, felting, and sewing. We will also learn some fun cooking skills, such as how to make the ultimate mac and cheese and how to make your own soda. Join us for a crafty good time.

Homework Club

Robotics

For participants with more experience with Lego robotics, more advanced projects will be given. This class will eventually give participants the skills to compete in a Lego robotics tournament and will include mock tournaments and other competitions between participants.
